Not cute news at all, but this is pretty much the only news around here:

Here’s hoping there’s luck putting out this fire soon 🙁
(I’m in Edmonton, about 4-5hrs away from Fort McMurray I think)
Yes, hope the fire can be put out and that everyone stays safe.
Such a sweet picture! My own mom has been gone a long time and I still miss her. Anyway I will heading out soon to go to the first day of our local farmer’s market for the season. Hope to get some fresh asparagus for dinner tonight…yum! Happy weekend, everyone!
Crossing my fingers for our pals up North – I’ve been assiduously avoiding the TV news, but I saw some of the video today – just stunning. Hope you stay safe.
I gave what I could to the Red Cross fund for Fort McMurray and I’m very glad Justin Trudeau said the Government will match funds. Stay safe out there.
Gigi from Montreal Québec.
I can’t find the thread for the name change, so I’ll post my something here.
I come here for the wit. I enjoy seeing cute things, but I see that all day long on Facebutt.
If there is a name change, I’d like to see it elude to the amazing wit written by NTMTOM.
Cute is common and wit is rare, out thaare (see what I did, thaare?). 🙂
I believe a reference to wit would attract more looky loos and subscribers.
Hadn’t really thought about that angle, but I have to agree. I come here more for the funny commentary on the cute than the cute itself. Cute, I can find anywhere.
Hear, hear!
I’ve thought about that a lot, both when I was writing for CO and now on my own. I agree that I add value to cute photos with the writing, and that’s what sets this site apart (and will continue to do so after any rebranding).
But I’ve also suspected that the value I add is small compared to the cute content; in other words, Teh Qte is still the star of the show, and therefore my best chance to draw in new readers is to focus the branding on cuteness, and let readers discover the writing and decide for themselves if it adds value for them.
Well, while “Cute Buns & Puns” might attract a different kind of demographic, you could make it a blend of the two features somehow.
Either way it’s all good.
But, sometimes, the photos are only average cute. What makes posts worthy of a coffee table book ? is the NTMTOM vision and wit! You’re not looking for your average cute junkie; you are looking for people who DO love “teh qte”, but demand it with a dollop of irreverence and a dash of snark! I do think the name of the site should reflect that, difficult as it may be. ?
So the bunny I mentioned the other day was still there on my way home yesterday. ..and it rained all day…poor bunny. ?
I have a feeling you will wind up taking him home and fluffing him up in the dryer.
I don’t think I’ll be pulling over to pick up a stuffed animal there, though it’s tempting. I won’t be back that way until Monday. We’ll see if he’s still there.
Maybe if you’re still thinking about it, you should just get it and take it home. Doesn’t matter why you attached or if it doesn’t make sense.
Agreed. Maybe you have a young relative or friend who will give bunny a good home? I had a worn old stuffed dog that my aunt had played with as a kid. I loved it even more for the story of my grandmother “rescuing” it from a ditch.
It’s obviously bothering you, so I say just pick it up, even if it’s only to put in the garbage. I think it the image of it abandoned alone in the gutter that is preying on your mind.
Poor bunny. Just imagine if it was woody or buzz.. ?
I say you go pick up the bunny. Bunny represents something to you that you will recognize at one point, soon hopefully. You can do it. 🙂
Maybe if he’s still there tomorrow.
Let us know what you do.
Slowly cleaning and folding laundry.
Watching Project Runway All Stars. I’ve been watching all the PR shows from day one.
Cooking an early dinner and reading: Heinz Kohut and the Psychology of the Self by A. M. Siegel. I am studying on a graduate level on my own. Awesome experience to be retired and be able to study without worrying about tuition, classes, or grades. Just doing it for ME!
I need to do some laundry. I just got home from the grocery store (oh god why did I do that?) and tonight I’m going to make blueberry sauce for tomorrow’s Mother’s Day pancakes, and a cake for dessert. Before that I stopped at the bookstore hoping to see someone but that didn’t work out. :/
Laundered colors, folded, put away.
Homemade chicken noodle soup at
lunch. Read more of “Elizabeth and
Mary” and drifted into a nice nap.
Phillies tonight, an exercise in
dedication and perseverance.
Tomorrrow, gingerbread pancakes
with berries for breakfast, with a
nice espresso macchiato made by
my sweetie, a man of many talents.
A decent, very quiet day.
Yaye, Faye! Retirement lets you be you.
One gets to indulge in the stuff that regular
life tended to over-rule.
Yes!! I am gradually coming to the realization that I am on a combo permanent paid sabbatical/staycation.
Hang in there youngsters!!
Just got back from watching The Jungle Book. Great story (that we already new) and visuals! I think it’s right up us nomtomers alley..
I just wanted to say hello, it’s a pleasure to see names I recall from co. Looking over the comments, it feels warmer and closer than I remember co. If I might say one thing I like about this site better than co, the made up vocabulary was so extensive it pulled for its use in comments, but today I read about Kohut and homemade soup, and it feels rather like I’ve entered a room of kind, bright, imaginative minds. As you think about re-branding the site, it might be nice to think what it is you are doing–always being a humane and intelligent voice above a lovely animal image. I think it works.
Welcome, Em! I hope you enjoy yourself here.
Well said EM!
Hear, hear! There really is a sense of community here – I learn things, I laugh. What could be better? I was absent from the proceedings this past weekend because I was away at a music camp in the NW corner of Connecticut and I sang my little heart out ALL WEEKEND! Had a fabulous time and am ready to gently immerse myself – like sinking into a warm bath – into all the wonderful comments and observations on the NTMTOM blogosphere.
I picked up my first foster dog from the local humane society on Friday–a delightful year-old chihuahua–who will find a lucky forever home soon. I’ve spent the weekend getting to know him and getting my pet-sitting dogs comfortable with him. This morning was aebelskiver breakfast day at the local Danish-American center. Luckily, you don’t have to be Danish, or a danish, to attend; and it’s all-you-can-eat! Sadly, they’re done until September. Then a visit with my best friend who supplied me with an arm load of lilacs. The weather has been delightful, so I’d say a pretty-much perfect weekend.
Also, for the last many weeks, I’ve been reading this site, including all the comments, from day one. It’s been a joy getting to “know” everyone! I didn’t come to CO until it had been going for several years and didn’t realize how much commenters added to the experience. NTMTOM, whatever you choose to do, I’m sure you will retain the tone and delightful atmosphere you’ve created here, and I’ll keep reading.
I didn’t comment much on CO, though I did read every post for several years and there were cretain names I would look for in the comments (sometimes I would just do a search for 260Oakley in hopes of a good pun if I didn’t have time to read ’em all). I have to admit, though, that the quantity of posts got a little overwhelming sometimes. I like that it’s a little slower here. And I love the open threads.
I think comments should be about teh qte, ntmtom’s wit and witty commenters. I don’t think it is interesting to read here all about somebody’s folding or bakery skills and leisure activities (no offence meant!). This is not a forum, or am I wrong?
Actually, creating an open forum is the purpose of the weekend open thread. I just slap up a cat picture, add a minimal caption, and folks talk about whatever. But to be clear, I invite readers to say whatever they want on any page.
and we love you for it!!
Yay for freedom of speech!!
