Beach Bambi

Shout-out to Anna, new subscriber Elizabeth, and all who support and subscribe. Time to celebrate with a video from Faye that will certainly put a smile on your face: A deer bounding on the beach, not a care in the world.

Truly. It seems to me that Faye has been quite prolific lately.

The best thing I’ve seen in ages!
This is one to revisit forever.
Faye, you can’t top this one.
    Beautiful creature loving life.
    Perfect. Reminds me of the
    Sunday School hymn, “This
is My Father’s World”, one that
I love. Almost made me teary.
    Anyone remember that old hymn?
    Thanks, Faye and NTMTOM.

  8. Madame X September 27, 2016 / 6:21 pm

    Joy.

    Pure, unbriddled joy.

Thank you for reminding us that yes, with all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.

Lovely and breathtaking. Thanks, Faye and Mike. I think I’d seen a version of this but from a distance. The person who photographed this did a spectacular job.

My friend is trying to tempt me…

    • Faye September 27, 2016 / 9:55 pm

      Oh o.

      • allein ? September 27, 2016 / 10:08 pm

A friend of hers is fostering her. She’s ten weeks old and recovering from a broken leg. The friend is meeting with a potential adopter tomorrow but my friend asked me if I’d be interested if that doesn’t work out. I wish I could say yes but I couldn’t leave her home all day long by herself. 🙁

        • AB September 28, 2016 / 2:41 pm

Aw, just put her in your pocket and go. If she barks, say it’s your ring tone.

“Sorry, my new smart phone needs a little training..”

The new “snuggle” feature is great, though!

    • Murray C. September 27, 2016 / 10:33 pm

Oh, Allein, don’t they have “bring your dog to work”???? She’s adorable. Maybe you should get two.?

      • allein ? September 27, 2016 / 10:40 pm

        I wish.

          Doggie Daycare?

  13. Rachel September 27, 2016 / 9:25 pm

What a happy deer! Usually when I see them around here bouncing it’s across the road. YIKES.

*sings* Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside, I do like to be beside the sea…

I don’t associate deer with water but apparently the ones living near Loch Ness sometimes swim for long distances, thereby giving rise to sightings of the monster.

  16. George Michael Sherry September 28, 2016 / 4:44 am

I’m not sure how old that deer is; maybe not full grown, but not a fawn, either. I always underestimate the playfulness of animals; I expect it of the young, but once they leave their mothers and have to make their own way in the world, I think of them living a grim existence of pure survival. That beach has nothing that can help that deer survive — no grass or leaves, no fresh water. It won’t help her avoid a wolf or a hunter.

    She’s purely having fun.

I don’t know what the survival value is. But I’m glad to see her enjoying herself.

    • Smartypants September 28, 2016 / 7:32 am

Yes, that’s what captivated me too – pure ‘play’ behavior. Not foraging, not scanning for predators – just bounding around for the joy of it.

    • SoccerSue September 28, 2016 / 11:47 am

A few weeks back one of our year-old deer (I call them the teenagers) came bounding into the front yard where I was standing. She came to a screeching halt about 5 feet from me and stood there, panting, for about 5 seconds, then turned around and took off running back down the driveway. A few seconds later she came running back and did the same thing. I was like, “What? Did Timmy fall down the well again?” 😀

      • Smartypants September 28, 2016 / 5:15 pm

Oh, that must’ve been so cool!

    • hilz September 28, 2016 / 2:22 pm

You’ve nailed it as to why it’s so peaceful to me, watching this skittish prey just having a ball, stress-free. It’s got some definitely hope value to it.

  17. murkle46 September 28, 2016 / 7:14 am

That is indeed a joyful exuberant deer.
