Sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear gets you. Some days it’s chicken, and other days it’s feathers. Some days you… oh, just play the video already.

Some days you win, somedays you lose, somedays you’re rained out, but you always dress for the game. That is the smallest kitchen – maybe it’s a galley in a boat of some kind?

    • Julie November 1, 2016 / 1:51 pm

Um nope. Probably a normal Asian kitchen. Americans really don’t have a good sense of what is considered “normal” in other countries.

      • Murray C. November 1, 2016 / 1:55 pm

You are so correct – I hadn’t cottoned on to the woman being Asian either. Maybe I should’ve looked at the written characters above the image – huh? Ya think???? Zcheesh – smacks self in head.

          With LEFT hand.

          • Murray C. November 1, 2016 / 11:23 pm

Yesterday in PT while the therapist was pushing my arm up next to my ear I started pummeling myself in the head – with my left hand – and he asked what I was doing. I told him I was trying to distract myself from the pain and he laughed and said I was going to give myself a concussion. He said he’d never seen anyone do that before. It was a tough session – but I got through it! Lot o’ tears, but things are getting better.?

              Oh dear – I hear you! 😀

You might try biting on something (no, not your PT’s hand) – like your sleeve or a balled-up towel – this helped a lot when I was getting Botox shots in my noggin for migraines.

Also, a few well-timed swear words can work wonders!

So glad to hear it’s getting better.

              • Murray C. November 2, 2016 / 1:06 pm

I was biting on my lip at one point but thought the better of it! And I asked for a bullet! Where’s the injection site for the botox shots? The head has so few nice little fleshy bits I can’t imagine and YES it must hurt like hell.

You know how folks always say there’s always someone worse off than you are, etc, etc. Today at the pool I met a woman who had spinal surgery that is still taking its toll two years later, she has terrible shoulder problems which she was told are irreparable and she’s a CELLIST! She’s having an awful time, poor dear.

                • Smartypants November 2, 2016 / 2:33 pm

Yes, it’s pretty painful, but only while they’re actually doing it, thank goodness – it doesn’t keep hurting afterwards. I’d say it takes less than 5 minutes total. They do a quick jab in about 30-35 sites – back of the neck, upper shoulders, temples (that’s the bad one because you can hear it), and forehead/brow.

I feel so bad for the cellist! Hope she finds some techniques & adaptations that work for her.

I’m scheduled to start P/T again the end of this month – looking forward to it! It’s a great group of people.

Or normal in other parts of our country. That kitchen is huge for some NYC apartments.

And, I feel so mean for laughing at that poor kitty’s fail – but, that was so funny!

I was watching an episode of House Hunters (they were in Massachusetts) last night and I got so annoyed at the guy complaining about the lack of counter space in the large kitchens they were looking at (especially since there was plenty of room to add an island or something if they really needed more). Must have been at least 3-4 times the amount of counter space as my kitchen in the smallest one.

          • Phred's Mom November 1, 2016 / 2:50 pm

Those shows can be so annoying sometimes.
            “Ooh, this kitchen/bath/bedroom/etc.etc.
            needs updating!”

            • allein ? November 1, 2016 / 3:20 pm

The guy also had a thing about ghosts…he wanted to make sure there were no ghosts. (And the first house they look at is next to a cemetery 😛 ). Apparently trees too close to the house means ghosts are close…they hide in the trees I guess? By the end of the episode the fiancee was like, “okay, that’s enough with the ghosts.” And they ended up buying a 200-year-old house with a spooky basement where he wouldn’t even go down the stairs.

I get comments about things needing to be updated, to an extent. If things are really old and need work, that’s something to factor in (in the budget, or willingness to do a lot of work, or whatever)…but small things like paint color or carpet that you just don’t like? Get a grip.

[On that note…My friend is finally getting her house raised, which she is required to do after hurricane Sandy. They’re renting a house from a family friend, who is very nicely accepting the rental allowance the state is giving them, so they are paying well below market value for a 3-bedroom, 2-bath house (which is still too small, given there are three adults, a teenager, an 8-year-old, and two pre-schoolers). The house would otherwise be vacant, as the owner moved but isn’t planning to list the house until the spring (by which time my friends should be back in their own house). I was there for her son’s birthday this weekend, and this place hasn’t been redecorated since probably before I was born. I am quite positive the kitchen appliances are older than me, and the whole place just screams, “you have just gone back in time to the 1970s!” I can’t imagine many potential buyers wanting to live with that for very long.]

I hear you about NYC – in the early 90’s I paid almost $1K a month to share a 2 bed apt with 2 other girls. My bedroom was about 10ft x 10ft (pretty sure it was meant to be the “baby’s” room). At least I had a real bedroom. We made a 3rd bedroom by splitting the living room in half with a temporary wall.

          • allein ? November 1, 2016 / 3:33 pm

I remember going to visit my cousin when he was living in NYC. He had a 1 bedroom apartment and a roommate; he got the bedroom and the roommate’s bed was in the living room.

            • Dana November 1, 2016 / 3:39 pm

              That’s very common.

            • Julie November 1, 2016 / 3:44 pm

Ha ha!! That is SOOOOO NYC!!!!

My brother’s “room” was a walk in closet his 2nd year of college! He and his friends wanted to live off campus. It was in a 6 story WALK UP (no elevator), the WORST neighborhood (I would only go alone during broad daylight) and was irrationally expensive. My parents actually cried after they saw the place (AFTER he had signed a lease).

He moved back to the dorms for his 3rd and 4th year.

Looks like a perfectly workable kitchen to me.

        • Murray C. November 1, 2016 / 9:24 pm

Our house has two kitchens, one good sized one that we had redone 18 years ago, and the other one in what had been made into an in-law suite which is where my mother lived. Let me tell you what a boon it was when we had our floors done and then when we had the kitchen re-done. Having that kitchen meant we didn’t have to go out to eat at all. I got an idea for a business – provide people undergoing kitchen renovation with kitchens in little caravans. But unfortunately I don’t have an entrepreneurial bone in my body.

    That was hilarious!

  3. Faye November 1, 2016 / 1:25 pm

Ok. Cat: I. Did. Not. Mean. To. Do. That. Not. One. Bit!

Sometimes your goals feel like moving targets.

Target locked. Oh o. Veer right. Veer right. Oops Midair course correction did not engage!

    • jerzowa November 1, 2016 / 1:33 pm

Faye, do you suggest this was not what the cat has planned carefuly and in details??? GASP! *Pearls clutched*

      • Murray C. November 1, 2016 / 1:52 pm

Wow. We’re living in a New Yorker cartoon – I love it!

      • Catwhisperer November 1, 2016 / 1:56 pm

No matter what happens, cats walk away like “I meant to do that.”

      • Faye November 1, 2016 / 3:01 pm

Even for a cat it was ridiculous.

        Ok. Actual cat version:

That was too easy yesterday. She stood stock still. No room for dramatic error.
Today was wonderful! She moved just when I launched allowing for my spectacular fall to the floor while taking out a receptacle thus destroying it as it too plunged to the floor. Yes. Yes I definitely meant to do that!

        • Dana November 1, 2016 / 3:27 pm

FAYE: your descriptions are killing me! 🙂

        • jerzowa November 1, 2016 / 4:02 pm

Yes. That is what I think the cat was thinking. Yes. You nailed it this time, Faye ?

          • Faye November 1, 2016 / 9:06 pm

            Thank you Dana and Jerzowa!

  4. Julie November 1, 2016 / 1:53 pm

I love the clanging noise at the end! Hilarious!

  5. Gigi the cat lady November 1, 2016 / 2:25 pm

I can just imagine the withering look the cat gave it’s human. ???

    • Faye November 1, 2016 / 3:03 pm

The lady agrees: I definitely meant to do that.

  6. sugitomo November 1, 2016 / 10:07 pm

Oops, kitty. None of us saw that, honest.

  7. Kar November 1, 2016 / 11:44 pm

I would love to see this on a real cooking show. Maybe claw the crap out of Guy Fieri or upset Pati’s perfect tomatillo pie.

Like Rick Bayless, it’s really filmed in his house because you can occasionally see a cat slink in the background and settle in front of the refrigerator vent.

  8. N. Fritz November 2, 2016 / 6:42 am

George Carlin had a great bit about cats and blamelessness. This is the rather safe for work version (although the live version of Carlin at Carnegie is much more entertaining!) The bit about cats not taking responsibility starts about 1:25.

Love the look the woman gives the cat at the end: what happened?

    • Murray C. November 2, 2016 / 1:07 pm

And the “ding, ding, ding” – like round two was over?
