Is it Hot in Here, or Is it Just Lil Bub?

Shouts-out today go to Stephanie and April for their generous support. Thanks to you both. Moving on, the times may be changing, but the world still turns, and it’s getting warmer with every spin. That’s why Lil Bub and Jack Black have an important message for us all.

Nice work, Lil Bub. Cutest spokescat ever.

Marrakech is one of my very favorite places! Especially on a Friday night
in Djmaa el Fna when everybody, I mean everybody goes there for the
food, the music, the dancers, the drums. We’ve been there several times.

Pity enough American voters (though not a majority) put into office a US president who thinks climate change is a Chinese conspiracy and is going to do everything he can to make sure we do as little as possible to slow it down.

      Cute. Sad. Gonna be bad.

Yeah, as cute as Bub is, this just kinda depressed me.

The animated part is @#$! scary. But I like the sweet rapport of Jack & Bub.

I love Lillian Bubbles. And Jack Black has his moments. 😉

Personally, I’m thinking of all the ways I can say “F U” to the incoming administration. Aside from writing letters, signing or creating petitions, emailing our reps, donating to the many worthy causes that will need our continuing help in the coming years, etc., I know I will get a big kick out of doing small things to flip a big ole bird to the jerks in the White House.

I can use a cold water wash or line dry my clothes! Take THAT, climate change-denying sack of donkey poo!

I’ll eat peanut butter instead of steak! HA! Take your methane-producing cattle and shove them up that flabby orange posterior!

I’ll use more LEDs instead of incandescents! Woohoo! Let’s build a wall around the White House with empty light bulb boxes!

You get my drift. Every time you do something good for the environment an angel gets its wings and takes a huge dump on Trump Tower.

Except for towels and sheets, all my laundry gets cold water. And I have enough that I don’t have to wash them until I have a full load. I don’t have space for line drying, unfortunately (condo). I do use a drying rack for a lot of things. I can’t do peanut butter, but I rarely eat meat at home (I do eat a lot of dairy, though). And I just bought LEDs for my ceiling light in my bedroom. One of the four bulbs burned out, and LEDs were on sale at Target, so I got four to replace them as they go (I figure if one is dead the others are probably close).

When I pay my bills later this month, I plan to look at what I can spare and maybe pick a couple of organizations to do recurring donations.

OMG “…..an angel gets its wings and takes a huge dump on Trump Tower.” I love you Mr. Max.

I’ve always been a huge “reduce, reuse, recycle” “hippie” who lives frugally and as simply as I can but I am more determined than ever to keep doing what I’m doing.

I know from years of experience that giving money to causes I’m passionate about makes me much happier and does more good than giving money to Target and Time Warner, etc.

I’ve also learned to make a bunch of stuff we use at home from scratch. I think our laundry detergent costs me less than $3 for two gallons. I even make my own hair gel.

I think I’ve ventured out of qte territory so I’ll add some qte via Pickles aka Sir Barksalot.

I make my own chocolate syrup…does that count?

I’ve looked at laundry detergent recipes but I’ve never tried to make it. I use a lot of baking soda and vinegar for cleaning, though. Most of my store-bought cleaning products are Method or Mrs. Meyer’s (I love their Honeysuckle scent).

Pickles is very cute. My friend just got a speckled doxie (mixed with…something; her legs are too long to be pure doxie). Her name is Smidgen. 🙂

Aw, the best kind of failure!

Cool…I think that’s the site I looked at, actually. Maybe I’ll see about trying it when I use up what I have at home.

            • Mr. Max November 16, 2016 / 4:37 pm

Thank you, Ladybug, for your kind words! And Sir Barksalot is HUGELY CUTE!

Thanks to both you and Allein for the green detergent recipes. I have super-sensitive skin and can only use one not-very-effective commercially available detergent. Perhaps your will fit the bill better.

I know a lot of my suggestions are Green Living 101, but I am finding that wanting to stick it to the new administration is giving me extra motivation to do things like get my butt off the couch and turn off that light I don’t need on, etc. Gives me some glee.

              Have a great day!

I’ll share my chocolate syrup recipe later if anyone wants it…

(I actually combined two different recipes; I like the water/cocoa/sugar ratio from one, but I found the cooking instruction for the other works better.)

                  Allein, please share!

                    Homemade Chocolate Syrup

                    1 1/2 cups water
                    1 1/2 cups sugar*
                    1 cup cocoa*
                    Dash of salt
                    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

                    The instructions for this recipe:
Combine all but the vanilla over low heat. Whisk constantly until syrup thickens and starts to simmer. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.

Alternate instructions that I actually use:
Use mediumish heat, and whisk constantly until syrup comes to a boil. Boil for a couple minutes, then remove from heat and stir in vanilla. (In my experiments, the boiling method seemed to make it thicken better. Watch carefully and use at least a 3-quart pot or it will boil over.)

Makes a little over two cups. Store in a sealed container in the fridge. (I usually use a pint Mason jar but always have a quarter cup or so extra.)

*I use Sugar in the Raw.
**I like Hershey’s Special Dark cocoa, but regular Hershey’s cocoa powder and white sugar makes it taste more like original Hershey’s syrup. I haven’t tried other cocoa brands yet.

(I would tell you where I got this but I don’t remember. There are lots of recipes online.)

                    • Mr. Max November 17, 2016 / 12:08 am

I will be mainlining this STAT.

Funny, but I read “and whisk” as “add whisky”. Hmmmm! I never drink the stuff, but perhaps my Freudian brain is trying to tell me something.

                      Thanks for the recipe!

Hmm…hadn’t thought about adding other “flavorings”….further experimentation might be in order. 😛
