Gentle readers, I could really use your help here. We seem to have a corgi without a name, and for a creature as refined as a corgi, such a situation will not do. But what to name him? No common dog names, no “Rex” or “Fido,” and nothing too sporty either, like “Boomer” or “Champ.” This is a popular British breed, after all, so it should be elegant and refined, like… like… Darn, it’s right on the tip of my…

Organ? I don’t think that it’s a very good name. ?
How about French? “Organique” 😉
100% Organ to you!
Only my closest friends get to call me “Organ”!
(Kinda like how only my dad calls me “Al”)
Yes Organique for a girl ?
I’m just spellbound by this adorable face! I can just sit and stare at it forever… unless… some basic instinct… BOOP!
Um, how about “Windsor” or “Buckingham”?Those are pretty darn British. Other than that, it would be nice to at least have a clue from the picture! 😉
I think Basil (pronounced Baasil) is perfect for such a refined gentleman.
Speaking of pronunciations, I’m hearing in my head Manuel’s voice from Fawlty Towers, when he was trying to find his “hamster”: “Bahseel?”
Exactamente.
How’s this for a name? My husband has a friend who is head of his clan – obviously Scots – named “Peregrine Montcrief of That Ilk”. That’s one of the better names I’d ever come across.
That’s awesome! My husband has an ancestor whose name was Grimaldus the Norman. I’ve always thought that would make a great pet name.
I love these! I don’t have anything of quite that caliber, but I did know a guy who legally changed his middle name to ‘Danger’ so he could say… “Danger is my middle name”!
That’s exactly why my nephew named his son Cole Danger…
I hear Mrs. Fawlty screeching…BASIL!! BASIL!!
I so love a good corgi. This one looks like he’s gone on a few trips around the sun. I know I’ve said it repeatedly here but my heart LONGS for a dog. I’m grateful for my niece- and nephew-dogs that my sister owns that I get to see often – but I would love my own. Someday, I hope, when my career or lifestyle is different, I will have one (or more). Last night Merlin Birdy sat beside me on the loveseat for a couple hours of TV which was really nice – generally he’s not a lap-parrot and prefers his companionship from a distance. But when he does decide to join me like that, it really warms my heart. The Voice finale was on so we had a bit of a head-bopping loveseat dance party. He’s got great rhythm.
Ah, yes, I, too long for a dog, a corgi in particular, but I’d be happy with most anything, tho’ probably a smaller breed – not a teeny breed – I’d be afraid I’d step on it!
I also hope to have a dog one day. A labrador, a goldie, a husky, a Great Pyrenees, a Hungarian Kuvasz, a Shiba Inu, or any dog that chooses me would do. But well I would not say no to a reindeer or to a giraffe either. Hm my cats are easier to care for, so much about daydreaming 🙂
I would get a Pug or a Wawa. Or a Pomeranian or a Papillon…
Wawa all the way! I like teeny breeds that require minimal grooming and can sit in my lap for extended periods of time without making me uncomfy. 🙂
(I never wanted a wawa until I had Pablo, and now I want another one just like him.)
Hm I have just imagined myself with an adult Great Pyrenees in my lap 🙂 Flatmonster!
Ouch! That does not sound comfy!
My parents breed Great Pyrenees and they make excellent lapdogs when younger. After half a year or so though they either require a large pouch or make good pillows.
Also our can get a wee bit demanding about ensuring that the ear rubs do not cease. Such as by sitting all 150 pounds on you until the ear skritches resume.
Can you sit in their laps when they get big? Seems only fair…
As I said, full grown Pyrs make great pillows. also good mattresses if you’re small enough
150 pounds wow 🙂 What Recherche says makes me want one even more. It would be fun to have a soft giant that outweighs me 🙂
[Can’t reply to EmsTheMonster (what kind of monster are you, anyway?) so replying here instead]
I stayed with a friend for a night a few years ago and she has a St. Bernard. She’s very sweet but I can’t imagine having a dog that big. Someone in my complex had two Great Danes (I haven’t seen them in a while; don’t know if they moved or just don’t have the dogs anymore). At first I thought they were in one of the townhouses, but then one day I saw them going inside…they were in a condo unit in the same position as mine but on the first floor, which means it’s a two bedroom, approximately 800 sq. foot unit. I can only assume the second bedroom belonged to the dogs.
It seems I can reply only here.
(what kind? a Minimonster!)
So I would have enough space for the doggie, in the garden, yard, basement of the house for cold weather etc, what I don’t have atm is the free time a doggie would require.
I would also go for a shaggy mutt – Benji-ish. Or a Doxie? I’d like a mixed breed.
How about a Corgi named .. well .. “Curry” ..
The pup better not spill that stuff .. he’ll be sneezing for weeks.
The nose has it!!! Extremely boopable. Sorry, I cannot come up with any distinguished name – my addled brain can only think ”
adorable”. Maybe if doggie wasn’t staring into the camera with those sweet eyes…
How about Percy. Or Shelbourne. Walter or Arnold. Poindexter. Rufus? Drummond. Bartholomew or Edward. Clement. Yada, yada, yada!?
Jeeves?
I see a Tristan or James (as in Herriot). I have to dig out my well worn set of books of that series. We’d find a jolly good name fast!
