It is another late night, and the Egyptian god Anubis rides the subway to his apartment in Queens. There he will rest briefly before returning to his eternal task: Ushering souls of the departed into the afterlife. It is difficult work. Souls are rarely prepared. They need explanations. Instructions. Snacks. If not for him, they would wander the earth, loitering in bus stations and getting into fights. So he endures.

OMG, today has been such a lousy day for me so far but this is making me bust my gut laughing. Thank you thank you thank you.
Hope your day gets better from here, Inchbranch!
Thanks, Smartypants!
Yeah, me too!
Well if Anubis needs an intern, I volunteer my Dobby. He even could be his stand-in for those times when Anubis really doesn’t feel like going in. Same coloring, same ears, same profile, I mean they could be twinsies!!
I’ve seen this photo before but NTMTOM’s story makes it even funnier!
AGREED! As usual Mike’s mind astounds. Love it.
He looks good in pink..
I’m a lifelong resident of NYC. That is not the “R.” There is no subway in NYC with seats like that. Does not however take away from a great post. Plus if Anubis existed he would definitely live in Queens.
Exactly! Could you picture the God of the Underworld living in New Jersey? Please!
Hey! Are you suggesting New Jersey is not hell on Earth?
Some would contend that New Jersey IS the underworld.
DUBRAVKAMCVMD speaks for me as well; third-generation native New Yorker, lifelong resident. That is no more an R train than the “subway” in Seinfeld was anything like the subway. Still a brilliant post.
True fact: Whenever I’m under unbearable stress, I somehow get on the wrong train—and it always takes me to Queens. Make of that what you will.
Brilliant! And Anubis looks suitably noble.
Off-topic update on Ani, my rabbit: I took her to the veterinarian this morning to get her spayed, and I should be able to pick her up in a few hours. Here’s hoping all goes well.
We’ll keep our fingers and paws crossed for Ani.
Do bunnies get cones of shame after such procedures?
I’ll let you know, because the vet just called and said she’s OK and I can pick her up.
Oh will she have a little shaved bunny tummy?
If so, a picture please.
Feel better soon, Ani (and Mike)!
Getting Ani on her back for a picture may not be easy, so no promises. I hardly ever even get to see her tummy under normal circumstances.
Let us know–kisses to Ani for a speedy recovery, without a cone of shame.
Ani will deserve extra TLC after her surgery and I’m sure NTMTOM will lovingly do that. Please keep us posted about her recovery. Recovery hugs from my Pepper to Ani.
Yes, we’ll look forward to updates. Keep an eye out for her eating and pooping – I’m sure the vet will have told you all that. I’ve never had a bun wear a cone. But their bellies look so funny and cute with a little pink square – my husband decided that’s where the batteries go.
And, as far as this post goes – huzzah!!! Laugh out loud hilarious.
I could believe Anubis lives in Jackson Heights – one of the few places I have actually found Tibetan take-out, & possibly the most culturally diverse corner of Queens. Though I do wonder if that means Osiris is stuck taking the Staten Island Ferry?
Ha!
Had to do a double take look at that picture.
Give Ani some gentle huggles for me, Mike. I’m sure she’ll be back on her feet in no time. ^_^
