Portrait of Success

NEW YORK — Billionaire kibble tycoon J. Pawpad Muddlebottom unveiled his official portrait to reporters today. Speaking from a diamond encrusted platinum podium in his Manhattan penthouse, Mr. Muddlebottom remarked “People love me! Nobody gets more head scritchies than me. And pet-pets. It’s amazing, you can ask anybody. And even though I may be extremely, immensely, utterly, remarkably, very, very, so very rich, I am still a cat of the people. That’s why I insisted that my portrait be kept humble, understated and dignified, like me.”

“For example, I specifically told the artist NO cherubs.”

My “up” vote is for Mike. The painting is kinda creepy. The cat is pretty, though.

Agreed. Much prefer the real thing.

I like how they worked the cat’s tail into the portrait–very realistic for such a beautiful appendage!

      I totally missed that!

I dunno – maybe a raccoon is hiding under those robes!

The colouring around the nose and the plushness of the tail on the real cat are adorable. The cat in the painting needs to eat more.

hmm .. Does he know Mr. Pennybags ? I hear he has a monopoly on silver (and golden) tokens (and a few Hotels).

I’m with Boosmom on this, the cat is lovely but the painting not so much.

The painting would be merely amusing were it a reasonable size. The fact it’s *gigantic* makes me giggle uncontrollably. I’m trying to imagine the decor of the room where it hangs, and I just can’t.

I have friends who had a painting done of two of their dogs as “Arnolfini and His Wife” – it’s pretty small, thou, maybe 11″x14″.

I’ll vote for this cat! What have I got to lose?

Reminds me of The Emperor’s Clothes fable. I love both versions of the cat. Bigly.

I wonder if a husband got this painting commissioned for his wife as a passive-aggressive jab that she loves the cat more than him (thus the enormous size and depiction of cat as King) and then they got divorced. Perhaps this photo was an exhibit used in the divorce settlement.

Love love love looooooove the painting!!! I wish I had the moolah to have my Shiraz and Suki immortalized as, heck, maybe Raphael’s Catherine the Medici and one of Klimt’s gorgeous ladies!
