Gentle readers, today is a serious day of great importance all across America, from the gentle plains of her golden windswept heartland to her scary cities full of smelly people with funny names. I refer, of course, to Penguin Awareness Day.
With its regal bearing and formal attire, the penguin forms the elite cadre of the animal kingdom. Its presence lends an air of dignity to any occasion, from a gala opera premiere to a monster truck rally.
And yet oddly, the penguin in youth is an ungainly creature, with oversize webbed feet and a chubby little ooh wookit da chubby wubby wittle belleh I’m gonna dieeeeeee!

Oooh, penguins!! Bring some to my office and I can appreciate them all day, especially if I get to rub those fuzzy wuzzy babby bellehs. Plus tonight is Star Wars night at the local AHL Hockey team game and dressing in character is highly encouraged. It should be interesting especially since it’s also $2 Beer Night. Go Gulls!!
IT’S SO FLUFFY I’M GONNA DIE!!!
Ahem..
As I mentioned on an earlier post, I believe the high school near where I work is celebrating today. There was a dancing penguin on one of the screens of their electronic signboard as I was passing by this morning. Pretty good image, too, considering they only have red and black to work with.
Even after all this time, Mike, I never know where you’re going when I start reading one of your posts. And I DIG that about you!!!
More fuzzy baby penguin belly is what the world needs now!
What the world
needs now
Is belly
fuzzy belly
???
Allein, as usual, you have the best post.
This time, though, you used one of my favorite songs and made it even better.
Can I adopt you?
Sure. 🙂
Apparently one celebrates Penguin Awareness Day by dressing in black & white. I *did* wear black to work today – but for other reasons.
I do like their yellow ascots.
I did not dress in black (I’m wearing navy blue and gray), but my ‘I Voted’ flag sticker is still upside-down.
hmm .. If that’s “THE” penguin, where’s his Top Hat and Umbrella ?
In honor of Penguin Awareness Day, I would like to make you all aware of the new book, Penguin Problems by Jory John and Lane Smith, because it is funny and adorable and maybe helps put things into perspective.
This fuzzy belly
So precious! Especially paired with those giant dinosaur feet.
