Maru of the Yukon

Alone amid the frozen wastelands, our hero searches for the comforting shelter of a box half his size, when suddenly he encounters a sled! Might this provide the diversion Maru needs to survive this boxless landscape? Maru is not sure, but he’ll give it a shot.

YEAH!! I’ve tried sending videos, etc. in before but they’ve not shown up. This time here it is and I’m the first commenter. Maru is such a laid back big boy, thinks things out before doing, and brings joy to so many. I’m not sure if he’s in his own backyard in this one. It looks bigger than the yard we’ve seen him in before. I also didn’t realize Japan got that much snow. His sledding endeavors were a riot. It took a bit but he got the hang of using the ‘sled’ (probably thought it was just a strange looking box). I was waiting to hear a WHEEEE out of him. I’m sure Hana was watching out a window and thanking her lucky stars she was warm and cozy inside during this adventure!! I don’t think she would have enjoyed the snow much as Maru did.

Congrats Flowerfanatic! I haven’t watched the video yet, but it’s such a rewarding feeling when one’s submission gets posted.

(having now watched the video) – Amazing! He is so deliberate – he doesn’t try to shake the snow off his feet, or leap out of the sled (I think he’s waiting for Hana to come and pull it back up the hill). It reminds me of when he first mastered the swing. Maru is so chill in everything he does.

          …I’ll show myself out…

As we say about our cat and sheep, they’re not fat they’re just big furred and big wooled!

Maru sledding! That cat has one very enriched life. Happy cat (not that you can tell by the facial expressions).

Was I the only one giggling every time he sank in the snow?

No, DebG, I was giggling, too. I was also imagining what he might be thinking/saying.
Mike, for some reason, I was expecting the story intro to be a poem. Don’t know why.

I know we’ve seen them in the yard — which surprised me, the first time, since I thought everyone in Japan lived in an apartment and no one had a yard — but this is way too big and has too much contour to be the yard. Is it a park? She lets him off leash in a park? I know, there’s never any reason for a pampered pet to run away — the question is, what are you going to do about it if they run off anyway? The halter (have we seen that before?) implies a leash is possible, but it’s not being used.

If this was a dog video, I’d expect to see the dog pulling the sled back up the slope so he could ride it again. That would be the point — that the dog can re-position his own sled. Cats have staff to do that.
