Fiona the premature hippo, who’s become a favorite on this site, is getting her first tooth! As exciting as this is, it’s also going to add to her challenges, because it makes feeding time uncomfortable, according to her keepers at the Cincinnati Zoo. You can follow Fiona’s progress on their website.
Thanks to Jenny D. for the update.
That looks painful…
I thought she looked like she’s smiling. Maybe I get that from the squinty eye. And are those eyelashes I see?
Yes, they are!
I volunteer to feed her Baby Hippo sized teething biscuits!
My phone rang a couple times today once at work and about an hour ago here at home and I ignored it as I didn’t recognize the number. They rang a third time went to message and when replaying ‘I have a floral delivery, I will try later’…. the plot thickens…
FKAWaldenpond, I found a hippo sized soother for you, as you asked about in the links posting. Unfortunately, it was on a site of a sort that I tend to NOT visit..
On a sad note, my neighbours moved today and took my beloved Cricket with them. How can such small things leave such big holes in our lives?
😀 Thanks for being brave and looking on my behalf Duckie; now you are pointing out places I am afraid to go. 😉
Remind me who is Cricket?! I am so sorry as I have two dear friends who have shared similar stories. Arggh, the childhood best friend that moves away but feline version. 🙁 Is Cricket a cat? (not the Y&R model becomes lawyer)
Sorry, that comment should have gone elsewhere.
Cricket is a green lovebird. He was featured here earlier this year, perched on a giant blue mug. He stole my heart.
Evil Bird .. stealing your heart like that ..
Well .. it is Valentines Day after all .. we can forgive Cricket this once.
😉
Upon further inspection, is she nomming on a person’s limb? Also, if you zoom in, you can see hairs on her chinny-chin-chin.
Yes! the chinny-chin-chin hairs and eyelashes!
And on her nosey nose nose.
kinda reminds me of granny.
Poor baby .. that’s gotta sting a little.
Is there such a thing as a Hippo teething Ring ?
I would take a pool floatie ring and stick it in the freezer…? But maybe there’s a giant zoo supply warehouse where they have such things.
I was picturing a giant binky.
Just saw today, they freeze towels and let her sooth with them.
Eeep
Apparently the sore gums are interfering with her progress in eating.
I’m rooting for you, you cutie patootie.
Aww!
I love the ingenuity and the lengths they’re going to for her – I’m always so impressed with the various vets and staff who save animals from horrible situations. Sometimes I can’t even look at the stories, they make me so sad and I can’t afford to donate too often – I wish I had lots of money to give to animal rescues.
Poor baby. I hope Fiona eats well despite the uncomfortableness. We’re all rooting for you, Fiona!
How is she so cute. How!!?? She is just so cute.
Poor little baby hippo gums. I like the frozen pool floaty idea!
