Rumor, a 5-year-old German shepherd named for a song by Adele, won the Best in Show title at the 141st Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, which took place last night at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The female German Shepherd, who almost won in 2016, bested thousands of other dogs from 202 breeds.
But it was a beagle named Mia who stole the show. The delightfully distracted dog made it to the end of her agility run, but not without a few stops along the way. (Thanks, Sharon H. and Lunachickfringe!)
Sure, it was a big night for dogs, but what about cats? In collaboration with the International Cat Association, cats and their owners participated in the dog show, drawing some frowns from dog owners but delight from reporters relaxed by the just-for-fun atmosphere. (Thanks, Sylvia C.!)
That beagle’s great, but nothing can beat that retriever who completely abandoned the pretense of obedience, accompanied by yakkity sax.
The GSD is a pretty and dignified lady.
Mia should have won .. GRINS .. Then again .. I’m a Beagle slave
I think Mia had the right idea – stop a moment and soak in the cheers of the crowd, enjoy the moment, you know? The course can wait a sec. 😉
Mia stole my heart as well as the show, and Rumor is a beautiful gorgeous goggie.
Isn’t she pretty? I love the head tilt – she looks very smart.
I think Rumor and her smarts have stolen my heart. What an absolute beauty– and I am more of the goofball, smiley, Goldendoodle sort not 70’s dogs but now I am reconsidering my preferences.
And of course Mia with her personality (never too busy for an sniff or itch!) is just all good times, warmth for me.
Highly impressive considering my chi needs doggie stairs just to get up on the couch, and half the time he’s too lazy to use those, preferring to be lifted up.
“Don’t be a Beagle, don’t be a Beagle!” I died laughing.
That was the best part!
Problem is … She’s a Beagle … LOL
Beagles are such hams .. Love ’em
(Specially this one)
I’ve always loved beagles because of Snoopy – OG Man’s Best Friend.
aww, what a sweet face 🙂
Me, too!
