And finally: Flippant Flipbook
The Flippist has a gift for creating hand-held animation, but the skill doesn’t stop there: Some things in the flipbooks magically become real! So be careful what you flip for.
Winners one and all! Special mention to caption by Not that Tom Lehrer, the Other Tom Lehrer, Pandora’s Teeth, and the adorable puppy being translated.
I didn’t know male cats could get involved with family life as shown. My cats were born to a street cat, and they were neutered the minute it was safe, so I have no frame of reference. Is Helpful Dad Cat as unusual as he seems to me?
When my long-lost stray Molly Weasleycat had her second litter at my house, a male cat stayed near her for several days after kittens were born. Naturally I called him Arthur. My attempts to catch and neuter him didn’t work out, and then he vanished. I’d never seen such behavior before, since I don’t have much experience with cat pregnancies.
Usually cats that get pregnant do it with strangers, rather than at home. I did have an orange tabby, many years ago, that liked kittens a lot. He was like the caring uncle who would bathe them, play with them, and snuggle with them. In my house, Grace is the one who pins the other 2 down and cleans them. It’s not unusual to find her cleaning ears, and she doesn’t care if they are kitten ears or wawa ears.
Dad cats are almost better mothers than the mom.For some reason domestic cat males love kittens, and I am sure the mothers are glad for the help after nursing gets tiring.I’ve seen this behaviour a number of times with toms, and they really get into the role.
Even if a boy cat isnt the father, they still go bananas for kittens.
I can’t draw to save my life, and it’s possible the result will be horrific, but I will risk it and try if I get a puppy out of it.
Ricky’s Mom – I don’t know how common it is, but I remember an episode of Too Cute! Kittens where the dad cat was pretty involved with the babies. Probably more likely if mom and dad live together. I doubt too many feral dads stick around. (Ain’t that always the way…)
Pandora’s Box Teeth had me howling so loudly, half the office came over to see what was up.
Fun fact: Pandora actually had a jar, not a box. When the eminent scholar Desiderius Erasmus translated her story from the Greek in the early 16th century, he inexplicably gave her a box, and since he was *THE MAN* for Greek at that time, nobody challenged him.
Interesting! I never knew that!
Neither did I! That’s a fun fact if ever I heard one.
I am a font of generally useless information.
It’s gonna be box forever more. Can’t put that genie back in its decorative serving tray.
First thought on seeing the second link was “one of these things is not like the others”…
Big dude second from the front isn’t looking at the camera!
