Shout-out tonight goes to Sandra for hitting the tip jar. Thank you!
And now, a “cute or sad?” moment as we watch poor Jack the wombat crawl into his little pouch all alone. Will no one come to tuck him in? Will none cradle him in their arms and sing sweet lullabies? The line forms behind sender-inner ffleur2. Good night!
Jack: “I can do it, I’m a big grown-up wombat! Just…check under the pouch to make sure there’s no monsters, Ok? And leave the light on.”
His coat is gorgeous – he looks very well cared for.
Sleep tight, lil’ Jack. Monsters are busy elsewhere 🙂
Where can we sign up to knit blankies for wombats?
Or Jack can just come to live with me–I’ve got lots of knitted blankies ready to go!
I vote cute. He’s got a playpen, a blankie and a stuffie. Maybe he’s had a long day of snuggles and needs to rest to do it again tomorrow.
Sweet dreams, little guy.
Baby wombat clearly is well cared for and well fed, so maybe the person who usually tucks him in and cuddles him and sings him lullabies is the one holding the camera. Although I’m sure wild baby wombats don’t get any help climbing into mom’s pouch, so maybe he’s at the age where they’re encouraging that independence in him. I feel cheated not having had the chance to study wombats up close and personal — I think I need to move to Australia so I can enjoy all their wonderful wildlife!
My Sweetness-ometer just went off the charts. I agree, they shouldn’t help him too much but it would be so very hard to restrain oneself from doing so.
My maternalness hurts.
Yup.
Me, too. Snf!
OMG, we all had the same reaction! I felt sorta silly but it just flattened me, it was so dear! That sweet little body (not unlike the poor pup in the corner) It’s amazing how much emotion there can be in a back view of a creature. They talk about actors acting with their backs – so much emotion can be betrayed by the venture of the back and shoulders.
I love how he is so clever to get his blankie completely over himself. And sleeping in a satchel? Brilliant. I agree his fur is sleek and shiny. He is well-loved and cared for.
He does a very good job of covering himself up. And Teddy is there if he gets lonely. Or to guard against nighttime monsters. Rest well, little baby. Tomorrow is another day of playing and learning and growing…..
Or to guard against nighttime monsters.
Teddy bears are good for that sort of thing…
First I want to reach through the screen and gently pull the blankie to cover, then Anipallein slays with this…
I love that picture.
Also, Jack’s blankie reminds me of one that Pablo had, except his was darker colors.
So much sweetness in the video and that illustration. I looked through the picture for awhile adding my own narrative.
I am so happy to hear that it and the video beget good memories for you.
Do you have any information on the artist, or drawing?
It’s by someone called begemott on DeviantArt. You can buy a print here.
Good night.
Sleep tight.
Sweet dreams.
You are awesome Anipallein!
🙂

Anipallein. 🙂
My teddy-dog did this for me for about twenty years.
Definitely cute and very sweet. I echo what everyone has said about how well little wombatlet has been provided for.
Womblet?
