Know Your Exotic Insects

The fluffy Giant Caterpillar (felix maximus) thrives in open meadows, where it fattens itself on grasses and the occasional field mouse. It will do this for approximately two months, after which it will retreat into its cocoon phase, emerging as Mothra.

So don’t make fun of my deedly-boppers, if you know what’s good for you.

What happens if I blow the fuzz off his deedly-boppers?

Isn’t there some ‘make a wish’ process when blowing deedly-boppers?

      • Jendeyan May 4, 2017 / 2:59 pm

Yes, there is. It’s the same as making a wish and blowing away an escaped eyelash.
        Step 1) Close your eyes.
Step 2) Blow as hard as you can.
        Step 3) Open your eyes.
Step 4) Verify that all the fuzz is gone. For eyelashes, make sure eyelash has blown away. If there’s any fuzz left or the eyelash is still there, no wish for you.

Thank you for that, may be able to try the eyelash sooner than the deedly-boopers with all this rain– *correction* 1/10th biblical flood styles of rain. :S

Mothra was one of my favorite monster when I was a kid, I especially love her song.

You beat me to it! I was going to ask where the tiny singing companions were.

Ooooh, the Mother of All Insects! I must be so old – I have no idea about Mothra – I suppose part of it is that I didn’t have kids either. I suspect my awareness would be more attuned had I been a mom.

I have no kids either, Mothra is not a new thing, I saw it for the fist time when I was about 7 years old a few years after the first movie came out in 1961. And of course it was in many of the Godzilla movies.

Murray I recommend a viewing of Mothra on an old black and white television on a Saturday night when the babysitter lets you stay up late while your parents are out. Lol.

Then you can watch it again on a color tv in the afternoon instead of doing high school homework, stoned with a friend. Very funny.

Ah, after-school TV. That was always when the best shows were on.

How could you not have heard of Mothra? I am 62 and loved that old movie about Godzilla and Mothra.

I’m almost 70 – that might account for it. That’s almost a generation in television years. And I’ve never been a fantasy or monster fancier, at least not in any big way. I have always liked the Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi movie – I think it’s called “The Body Snatchers” – but Godzilla types not so much.

Does the adult form come with the same markings as the caterpillar?
    That would be gorgeous!

There are black butterflies like the Mamba Swordtail
