Since we’re celebrating birthdays, reader Lois M. informs us that hippo Fiona is four months old today. To celebrate, the Cincinnati Zoo released this highlight video so we can relive the cutest moments of her amazing journey from a preemie in peril to round, robust and nearly ready to rejoin her mom and dad.
The leg-kronsche and underwater roll crack me up every time.
Same here.
Sweet heartache.
Happy four months, Fiona.
She is just the sweetest thing!
OMG she was so tiny! I first met her when she tried to walk, and she looked little then. But as a newborn, wowiekazowie!
Enjoy the day, not-so-little one.
Four months old already? No! I wish we could keep her little for a while longer.
They grow up too fast. ? Our little house hippo is gonna be too big for the house soon.
Our big strong girl! Wonderful!
Who knew such a blorpy slimy-lookin’ thing could be so cute?
Don’t people find human babies cute? Aren’t they kind of blorpy and slimy-lookin’, at least at first?
Yeah, but they get the slime cleaned off pretty quick.
Never thought of a newborn human as particularly blorpy…
Ask my mom about my birth…
Fiona is not slimy she is wet LOL!!
That’s why I included “-lookin'”!
It’s been such a joy watching Fiona grow. And also, yes, the leg kronsche gets me everytime.
Fiona: I R fierce hippo! *kronsche*
I feel like my face is going to break I’m smiling so much – the licking of the lips is pretty darned cute, too – well, truth to tell, all of it is. Fiona is precious.
*Everything* about Fiona is cute, but the leg kronsche is particularly adorable. Where does the time go? Hard to believe we’ve been following her tiny hippo adventures for four months already.
I love every minute of this! Those first teetering steps, then zooming around the corner to greet the camera, meeting Mom, mastering the pool ramp, the first messy meals, leaping and porpoising under water – it’s like the best of a childhood photo album.
I love everything about this video.
