And finally: Home Improvement
Eggnog the Bulldog has a new home will all the modern conveniences: slide-out water dish with retractable faucet, storage closet for her dog toys, and voice-activated lighting (not her voice, because Alexa doesn’t understand dog — yet.) More of this story at People.
I am so jealous of people who get to have pets at work.
I might not have retired early if we had pets at work, I’m sure the atmosphere would have been better and not as stressful.
My workplace is doing a health/wellness push lately, and they’re offering blood pressure screenings next week. I wanna do it, but I think it’s probably a good thing it’s not happening today…
The other thing they’re doing is a walking club at lunch…in the parking lot…in June…. I won’t be joining that club. I hate getting all sweaty at lunch (I’d rather go to the gym or park after work, then go home where I can take a shower and put on my PJs), and if it’s hot I’ll just wind up with a headache and be useless all afternoon.
I agree – when I was working I always preferred to go for my walk afterwards – that way I could do a nice leisurely stroll or a furious gallop, depending on what kind of day it had been! π
I know this reads as kinda over dramatic but really, walking on my lunch break has changed my life. I can ‘deal’ better with things.
I started to make egg salad last night but realized I didn’t have enough mayo, so I ran to the grocery store at lunch to pick some up. Stopped at the park on my way back and sat by the water and read a book for about 15 minutes, then came back and finished mixing up my egg salad (after waiting for the noisy people to vacate the kitchen lest they negate the effects of sitting by the lake for 15 minutes).
Sometimes at lunch if it’s nice out I’ll walk a few laps around the animal enclosure at the park, but I don’t really like to walk at work because there’s no shade in the parking lot, and I’m walking on blacktop with big trucks passing by on the road.
There’s a seating area outside the cafeteria, so sometimes I’ll read out there, and during the winter I started sitting by the window up front with my book, to at least get a little sunlight. The other day it was raining and someone was being a distraction up front so I went to an empty office (unfortunately its window looks into the warehouse instead of outside, but at least it was nice and quiet).
I understand walking in blazing sun around a parking lot is no fun nor healthy! I work beside a very large mall so I am able to do a few laps in air-conditioning. Mind you it can be very unhealthy to my wallet. π
Walking in lunch break? I have a 10 minutes’ lunch break, it takes about 12 minutes to get to the parking lot π So i walk in the evening when the weather is nice.
Jeez! Where do you work?!
The first department I worked in here was all the way at the far end of the warehouse, so it took me a good 5-10 minutes to get out of the building, depending on how fast I walked. And I only had a half for hour lunch, because I was an hourly employee. Usually I would bring lunch and eat in the kitchen next to the our office. Now I’m in the front office so I just have to go downstairs. But it’s about 10 minutes to drive to the park, with traffic and all. But I’m also salaried, now, so I get an hour (and my boss isn’t particularly rigid on schedules. I just stay a little later if I need to make up time).
At the export department of a factory, which is in a huge industrial area.
Here only top managers have an hour long lunchbreak but even they don’t use it to full. It is not generally regarded as “free time”, you are expected to go back to work as soon as you swallowed the last bite.
Tbh there is such a serious lack of staff that we try to do everything as fast as possible to be able to go home after 8-12 hours of work, so I would not even like to have a longer lunch break.
Iam not saying this is good, simply this is what the situation is.
Sounds like a nurse or elementary school teacher’s lunch period! Get the patients or kids all settled and then take a quick bite before the bells start ringing!
Great collection of links! I hope the little girl gets to be a vet.
Impressive 9 yr old girl. I hope she grows up to be a vet. That business sounds like the perfect place to work, cats everywhere! Eggnog has a great doghouse.
Love the side eye mama cat is giving the human in that picture!
There is surely a market for platform beds that accommodate pets. I would love that bed!
Isn’t it amazing? What a pampered dog! Very cool.
I just want a bed like that for me. ?
I love Eggnog’s single eyebrow!
