Fiona the preemie hippo has passed another milestone. Under the supervision of her care team, Fiona is spending time with her mother with no barrier between them. Mother Bibi seems to welcome her daughter, while Fiona is very curious.

And that’s not all. Fiona is coming up on another important milestone: She’s almost 300 pounds!

WAH!! I’m usually first getting updates on her but for some reason I haven’t been receiving them. BOO HOO!! But this is great and I hope it continues this way. I thought when I saw Fiona biting her mom — WHAT’S BIBI gonna do with this happening!!! But she just glanced at her and did nothing else. It should be very interesting to watch the 2 of them together. Eventually Fiona will be with her permanently I would imagine. Wonder what Dad will do when he sees his little offspring (well, not so little anymore!!). What a great milestone both weight wise and the fact that she’s thriving and getting to enjoy life with her kind!!
Babies will bite anything, won’t they?
Hey, here’s a giant thing that looks a lot like me. I’m gonna bite it.
My neck rolls are not nearly so cute.
Have you tried lifting your head and flapping in emulation of Fiona? Never know, that could make the difference. 😉
Haha, gummy vitamins were NOT constructed to come out the nose!
I tried to do the Fiona shake while looking in the mirror, but ended up dizzy and revolted. It brought to mind that scene from My Big Fat Greek Wedding II, where all the women grab the backs of each other’s necks before a picture is taken, to restrain the neck rolls.
Some groups have the “Bend and Snap”, some have the “Swish and Flick”. Fiona acolytes have the “Lift and Flap”.
Maybe if you learn to do the flippy thing with your ears it’ll distract from the neck…?
Haha, you are appropriately named.
I got pretty teary looking at her explore her mom and gently nom her – so dear. Isn’t it wonderful that 300 pounds can look so small???
Bibi probably doesn’t realize that Fiona is her daughter anymore than Fiona knows that this big thing is her mama. Adults will tolerate behaviour form babies that they would not from another adult so the biting is no problem and being female Fiona should fit right in with both her parents when she’s big enough, I don’t know if the baby was male is there could be more conflict with dad as he matured.
I figured the biting might be Baby Fi looking for meelks? No? Is she too old for that instinct now? Funny to see how much growing she still has to do!
“All I want for lunchtime is a hippo…”
*soft-kronsche*
I should mention (well, “should” may be putting too fine a point on it) that my husband says he fell for me when I was at a Christmas Party at his place of work wearing a rather short dress and hot pink tights singing “I Want a Hippopotamus For Christmas”. Me and hippopotami go back a long way.
I love that song! Now I know what I need to do at my next Christmas party to attract some attention. ^_^
The Cincinnati zoo on its web page described Bibi as being in a “relaxed position” and Fiona explored her by “kissing and licking.” On an unrelated note, I was shocked at how tiny she looked next to Bibi. I will also wear my neck rolls with pride going forward.
I want my own Fiona house hippo >:3
Checked Amazon. No house hippos.
Not possible .. Amazon has everything including the kitchen sink. must be on backorder right now.
I loved that commercial from the first time I saw it. And I’m still trying to find a house hippo in my place. Maybe I need to strew around more peanut butter toast crumbs.
And then there was that pet Giraffe commercial too. Now I have to go find that one!
This one?
Oh my goodness! That is so cute!
So happy. That is all.
No, it’s not all. I had ALL the same thoughts about neck rolls yesterday when I saw that video.
Love how mommy Fiona’s eye starts to close contently when baby is nomming.
The kissing! The chomping!! The slobber!!!
