It’s finally happened. After a premature birth and round-the-clock care, Fiona has joined her mother Bibi in the main hippo pool at the Cincinnati Zoo, swimming together and getting along swimmingly.

What a special video I got when I saw it was from the Cincinnati Zoo. I was hoping it was about Fiona. But when I saw she was with Bibi, it made it even more special. It looks like Bibi MAY remember Fiona. At least there’s no aggression on Bibi’s part so far. Let’s hope the interaction between the 2 of them continues like we see in the video. I know the keepers are watching every move that’s made to insure nothing harmful comes to Fiona. We’re all keeping our fingers and toes crossed that the interaction continues to be a great mother/daughter reunion. ENJOY!! Lois M.
Makes you wonder if Bibi knows who Fiona is or if she’s just showing the new kid the ropes… (I choose to believe the first one.)
I was wondering if Bibi remembers previous babies, and if Fiona’s presence is causing mommy instincts to kick in. When Bibi lets Fiona use her as a sunbathing rock, I will cry.
Just like when the kids come back from summer camp!

Why is it, no matter how many times I see it, the flippy ears get me every time?

When Bibi open her mouth to let Fiona explore I guess that makes her a “Gaping Ma”?

I am thrilled to see this magical majestic interaction. The neurons and instincts in Fiona’s brain must be feeling that all is right and well now. Oh, I really am a Hippo!
Fiona is fascinated by Bibi. The nuzzling is so sweet. Whether Bibi knows Fiona is her baby or not she is certainly interested in the little one, gentle and patient. I hope they continue to be happy together.
I’m gonna guess she knows .. What mom doesn’t know ?
There’s more to family than blood.
I guess Fiona is not our baby anymore, now she is Bibi’s baby, and that’s as it should be. But she will always have a special place in my heart.
Oh .. no crying Auntie GiGi .. You (we) can always love her
