Today is Québec’s national holiday, Saint-Jean-Baptiste’s Day, so everything is closed and there will be celebrations and concert going on across the province. When I was a kid it was celebrated more as the Saint’s day than Québec’s national holiday, there was parades with a little boys with curly blond hair playing the part of the Saint and in villages there would be a big bonfire at night.

Unfortunately in the 80’s the holiday turned political and was highjacked by the French separatist movement that wants Québec to leave Canada and the holiday became synonymous with them. It ruined the holiday for a lot of people, anglophones and immigrants and French people like me who don’t want to leave Canada, no longer felt it represented them and didn’t feel welcomed at the celebrations. It got a little less political in the last few years as the movement for independence as lost popularity.

Please don’t leave our country people! Diversity is good! Our country is so amazing because of diversity! Quebec and it’s history is deeply woven into the fabric that is Canada.

      • Dulcie June 24, 2017 / 11:23 am

Okay I just noticed my grammar mistake…correction – please don’t leave the country, people. (You country people are ok).

      • Gigi the cat lady June 24, 2017 / 12:56 pm

I think there will always be friction between Québec and the rest of Canada, we are as they say “the two great solitude”. But I don’t think separation will happen because most of the younger generation is not interested, they don’t have the “us against them” mentality that the older generation had.

Going to a wedding celebration – a dear friend’s daughter is recently married to a French/Algerian and they’re nervous about recent events in the world of immigration so decided it might be a good thing if they tied the knot – they’ve been together for a long time. Should be a very nice party. My friend introduced me to my husband and was my matron of honor and I was her coach for the delivery of her first baby – she was a single mom at the time. Nice to have ties that go back a long ways, isn’t it!

Am bunny sitting for a friend’s rabbit – she’s having double knee surgery. He’s a very sweet tho’ skittish bun and she thought he didn’t like to be stroked. Turns out he likes it very much but on his terms. He’s very small, maybe a bit over 2 lbs. and hardly eats a thing! I keep trying to tempt him but he only seems to eat parsley and some hay. His owner feeds him some questionable things that I’ve cut back on in an attempt to get him to eat the good stuff.

Lots of rain here overnight, remnants of most recent hurricane – started with a C but can’t think of the name – turning into a very beautiful day and tomorrow promises to be even better with low humidity. Yay! Since I’m going to a party tomorrow, too. And need to do some gardening.

Have a great week end everybody!

Murray — the bunny is like mine. Freckles only likes parsley as her greens!! I’ve tried everything else and it just sits there. I would recommend that it also gets a good quality preferably organic pelleted food. Parsley and hay are good (hay is absolutely necessary for good gut health) but don’t contain all the minerals, etc. that bunny needs. Mine gets orchard grass, timothy, botanical hay. Some available 24/7. I put it in a cute little wooden hanging haymow from Drs. Foster & Smith that hangs on the side of the cage with those little clip things you spring open and they close around the bars. It’s the ONLY kind Freckles hasn’t been able to flip off the cage. Thank goodness she hasn’t figured that out!! Nothing is safe if she can clasp it between her teeth and either fling it or throw it around. She hasn’t even tried eating the haymow like everything else I put in her cage. Play time outside her cage is always fun!! She doesn’t like being put back in the cage. She doesn’t like being picked up so I have to drop a towel over her and make her into a burrito to carry her anywhere. She was owned by too young of a child with autism in her formative age of 4-6 months old. They brought her back to the breeder because they didn’t want her any more. I’m sure she was probably mishandled in this family and became terrified of probably being dropped as that’s how she reacts at trying to be picked up.

Mine is a HUGE bunny as she’s a composite of several breeds but does have the Holland Lop ears. Her favorite petting place is right behind those ears on that special VERY soft place. She’ll drop her head down when I come over to her as she knows she’ll get that special petting there.

Enjoy the wedding reception you’re going to. That’s always special.

      • Murray C June 24, 2017 / 4:30 pm

I give my buns Oxbow Timothy pellets – do you have any other recommendation? I’ll try anything to get this little guy to eat better – he does eat a few pellets and a little head – also Oxbow Timothy – but not much. I thank you for all the info about Freckles – picture pretty please???? This little guy goes through a funny little ritual that we’ve developed and he’ll let me stroke him fairly aggressively all over, even against the grain, but if I make a mistake he bolts – then comes right back for more.

Oh that kitty can come sit on my keyboard anytime. Last weekend I was visiting my mom and starting to organize/clear out her storage units. What a chore that was but got about 75/80% done. And as my brother said, this was after they downsized when they moved out of their house in NJ to move to CO. Some stuff is going to the grandkids but most is just going – either garage sale, Ebay/Craigslist, or thrift store. I’m going back in Aug or Sept to finish things off.

This weekend is semi-busy, taking doggy to the vet then I have a haircut later plus some errands. My poor Dobby is suffering from such bad separation anxiety that I had to bring in a behavioralist to help us out. So Dobby is going on meds to hopefully calm him down. It was getting so bad I almost couldn’t leave the house because he would get destructive.

She also has me practicing desensitization – ie walk out the door, wait a few seconds and come back in. That unfortunately is going to have to wait until I start him on the meds because it made him too anxious. So anxious that he slept in room last night to make sure I didn’t go anywhere (which he hasn’t done for several weeks). Kinda funny story was yesterday I turned on the shower to warm up the water and while waiting took some trash out to the dumpster. After I got in the shower, I hear little feet coming down the hall and then there was a little face peeking around the shower curtain to see if I was really in there. Poor baby. Hope the meds work cause this is getting very tiresome.

But some good news – hubby may be coming back early from Hawaii, sometime in mid July for a few weeks before they send him to the East Coast to train a new hire. So yeah me, I get to see him and have a normal life for a change.

    Have a good weekend everyone!

  4. allein ? June 24, 2017 / 10:08 am

    Morning everyone.
I have no plans this weekend. I’ve been off most of the week and trying not to think about the fact that I have to go back to work on Monday. Haven’t looked out the window but it seems like it’s kinda gray out there.

  5. Birdcage June 24, 2017 / 10:25 am

Went to the U2 concert in Toronto last night – my ears are still ringing. Epic show. Got a bit dehydrated: I wasn’t seated in a place where it was convenient to leave the stadium to buy a water (and I kinda hate to buy bottled water). Anyway, woke up this morning feeling like I had a hangover so I’ve been lying here trying to hydrate before heading out to do some weeding in the garden. Also got news last night that my childhood home has sold – at a half decent price, too – so my parents can breathe a sigh of relief. They need every penny to afford their new stage of life in their new seniors’ facility. Onward.

    • debg June 24, 2017 / 11:05 am

OMG seriously? I had the chance to see U2 in Chicago, at the Aragon Ballroom (this was before Joshua Tree, so they weren’t huge yet) and didn’t go. It’s easily the biggest regret of my life.

      • Laura June 24, 2017 / 11:18 am

I won a front row tickst to see the Beatles on their last American tour when I was 13, and my father made me go camping instead. ????

My friend who I gave the ticket to was so close to the stage she *touched Paul.*

        • Gigi the cat lady June 24, 2017 / 1:01 pm

I would have never talked to my father for the rest of my life!!!!

          • Laura June 24, 2017 / 1:14 pm

Well, he DID go to his grave without my forgiveness….

But in a way, it was probably for the best because my sister — 2 years older than me — had kinda helped with winning (the radio station gave a line from a song and I had to be the first caller with the name of the song, which was Nowhere Man). So we probably would have fought to the DEATH over the ticket. We both still remember the whole thing with anguish, obviously!!

            • Murray C June 24, 2017 / 6:05 pm

I hope the friend you gave the ticket to is totally within your debt for the rest of her life. (I’m surprised the station didn’t give two tickets – that’s the usual thing.)

              • Laura June 24, 2017 / 6:48 pm

For the Beatles, there was no way they were giving away two tickets per person. They probably only got a VERY small block of tickets in any case; I’m sure there were other stations that got a few tickets, too.

But even if we’d gotten two tickets, we wouldn’t have been able to go thanks to the camping trip. Grrrr……..

            • Rachel June 24, 2017 / 6:08 pm

And you should have HEARD the reaction I got from her sister the one time I (her niece) brought up the ticket! It would have been a fight to the death in that house, I promise you.

    • Julie June 25, 2017 / 10:39 am

Birdcage – there are no words to fully describe how cool it is that you got to see U2. They are one of my Top 5 all time bands/music acts. Their breadth of catalog, their ability to stay relevant and produce music over DECADES, their ability to be political and write important music with broad appeal without being off-putting – all of that and more just makes them so amazing. I’m so happy for you!!

  6. debg June 24, 2017 / 11:08 am

Big doings for me this weekend! (on a relative scale)

I’m thinking long term about moving closer to work, which means figuring out how I can prepare my current house for sale and then afford a new one in the far-too-expensive Fort Collins/Loveland area. Everything seems to be broken down–except the new kitchen–in my current home, and I’m not feeling excited about pouring money into it. I can borrow money easily but can’t afford to pay it back!

Other weekend plans include knitting (big shock). I’ve forgotten to link my colorpooling video before, I believe:

On Monday, I’ll link to a cool video we just made at work. I have a fun job.

    Happy Saturday, all!

    • belphebe June 24, 2017 / 12:18 pm

@DebG, love the video and the cowl! Great job.

It’s supposed to be very warm in my area so I think I’m going to go to an air-conditioned mall or library and hang out. It’s too bad the libraries close at 5 on Saturday. My apartment won’t cool down until 9, if that.

    • Laura June 24, 2017 / 1:24 pm

Very nice, Deb! You did an excellent job of explaining the whole thing — I’ll definitely have to try the planned color pooling at some point. I’ve tried a less careful version of it on socks, when the yarn pools in a particular way as I go around the leg and I fiddle with it a bit, but I didn’t really know how to fiddle with it so successfully. I love adding new knitting techniques to my repertoire! It just goes to show, you can knit for 35 years, like I have, and there’s still something new to learn constantly. I’ve learned more in the last 10-15 years, since the advent of the internet, than I did in all the years prior to that — having videos where I can *watch* what’s being done, not just read about it, makes all the difference!

    • Murray C June 24, 2017 / 4:41 pm

DEBG you’re so darned beautiful and personable. I’m a very poor knitter, never having mastered how to correct mistakes, but I did understand what you were getting at – well done!

    • fkaWaldenPond June 24, 2017 / 6:15 pm

You have lovely skin Deb and your hair colour really compliments it.

      • Debg June 25, 2017 / 12:28 am

Thank you all for the lovely compliments, people. I’m surprised nobody said anything about my ears, though!

        • allein ? June 25, 2017 / 12:55 am

Okay, I’m not a knitter but now I had to go look at the video because I needed to see what was up with your ears. Very cute! They suit you. 😉

        • Jlamusings June 25, 2017 / 9:16 am

It just shows you what we all must consider typical so not in need of comment 😉 oh yeah…cute kitty ears. Doesn’t everyone wear kitty ears while undertaking creative endeavors???

        • Murray C June 25, 2017 / 11:01 am

You know, I meant to say something about the ears in my first comment and totally forgot. Now I just went back to the video because I thought you were talking about your real ears – I’m looking at them thinking, well, those ears are just fine, normal, close to the head ears and then I realized what you were referring to. Egad. Very cute. I’m working on a CD cover for a friend who has a children’s rock and roll band called “The Cat’s Pajamas” and they all wear cat ears and tails. It’s a literacy based mission and they are SO good – ace musicians and high energy. So cute seeing little 5 year olds dancing around and reacting to the movements in various songs (often including puppets).

        • belphebe June 25, 2017 / 12:03 pm

I did wonder why you were wearing kitty ears, but then realized it was because of the pattern! I love how the pattern mimics paw prints. Great design!

  7. Duckie ? June 24, 2017 / 11:11 am

It’s a gorgeous day outside. Unfortunately, I will be stuck inside for the weekend. Heat and air quality are conspiring against me. I felt it before I even woke up.
However, hubby reminds me that inside doesn’t necessarily mean at home. The mall is air conditioned, and so are the library and fabric store. He does NOT like to see me being stuck at home.
So I will have new reading and sewing materials for the weekend. But I’d rather be outside.
I keep several old Magic Bags in the freezer for weather like this. Makes sleeping a little easier.
No matter how you do it, enjoy the weekend.

  8. Laura June 24, 2017 / 11:12 am

Sounds like life is doing its thing for everyone.

Do you do anything for the Quebec holiday, Gigi? Enjoy the wedding party, Murray. Old friends are the best, aren’t they? I have a dear friend who I met the first week of college, 45 years ago now (?!?!). My daughter says we’re more like sisters! And I hope the bunny-sittinf issues and the Donny separation anxiety issues clear up. That’s always very challenging.

I had a quiet week. It finally rained, a LOT, so the stupid frogs who were creaking at about 150 decibels calling the ladies All. Night. Long have finally hooked up and shut up!

I ended up creating a pattern for the baby blanket for my niece and it’s coming along nicely. I just didn’t like any of the patterns I found anywhere else. I also dug out *insanely* cute patterns for booties and a bonnet and am trying to decide on a sweater pattern, so she’ll get a while pile of knitting. She’s appreciated everything else I’ve knit for her, so I expect the baby will be well wrapped in wool. ☺

    Everybody have a good week!

  9. Alice Shortcake June 24, 2017 / 11:45 am

But…I don’t even want to reach that keyboard!

*plunges face into kitten’s fur whilst making ridiculous noises*

    • birdlady26 June 24, 2017 / 2:59 pm

      Remember to share Alice.

      • allein ? June 24, 2017 / 4:03 pm

        We get to share Alice?!

        • Dulcie June 24, 2017 / 4:16 pm

Just like my grammar mistake earlier…it can be amusing! One of my favorites is “Let’s eat Grandma!” instead of “Let’s eat, Grandma”!

          • Laura June 24, 2017 / 5:08 pm

I have that on a t-shirt. It says:

            Let’s eat Grandma.
            Let’s eat, Grandma.
            COMMAS SAVE LIVES!

I’ve gotten some good laughs from it. I have a lot of grammar- and punctuation-related t-shirts. And an old friend, who’s an English teacher, has many of the same. What’s particularly amusing is we got them completely separately! My favorite site for silly grammar shirts is Snorg Tees. They’re not the world’s best quality, but they’re inexpensive and have a *lot* of silly shirts.

            • Jlamusings June 24, 2017 / 6:02 pm

Hahaha! That’s a fav of mine too. I must check out those t-shirts. I teach writing, and I have some hilariously unfortunate grammar and word choice errors. I want to create a warning sign: use the thesaurus responsibly

              • allein ? June 24, 2017 / 6:33 pm

Google the JFK and Stalin cartoon about the Oxford comma. 😉

              • Dulcie June 24, 2017 / 6:47 pm

I bought a thesaurus once. It was terrible. And also it was terrible.

                • allein ? June 24, 2017 / 8:43 pm

              • Smartypants June 24, 2017 / 7:22 pm

When I was a kid I seriously thought it was a book about a giant reptile: “The Saurus.”

  10. jlamusings June 24, 2017 / 12:06 pm

Enjoy weddings & reading & concert recovery & moving planning this weekend, everyone! And good luck with bunny sitting and anxious doggos. Hoping all those things go well!!

If you all could, send prayers & happy thoughts to me & my kitty Malcolm for a few weeks. He was the one who got sick several months ago and was diagnosed with IBD. It’s MUCH better (yay!), but there were lingering appetite issues.

Plus side: it seems much of the appetite stuff is about terrible knee pain, not the IBD (yay?). Bad side: his genetic knee problem (luxating patellas) has gotten very very bad. I think he fell while I was at work earlier this week so it’s an acute problem on top of a chronic one. He’s lost a lot of muscle mass and heals more slowly because of the steroids he’s on for the IBD (we are trying lower doses hoping things stay stable). SOOO knee surgery is looking probable in the near future. Not sure they can do both at once. And I can’t even get a surgical consult for almost 3 weeks 🙁 We’re using pain meds to help in the meantime, but he (and his digestion) are sensitive so I don’t want to overdo it but still keep him comfy.
Between the finances & the stress of knowing he feels crappy half the time when his meds wear off, it’s gonna be a long 3 weeks!!! And he had surgery already on one knee when he was 1-1/2 (my bad for not going to a specialist & researching that he’d likely relapse since he was still growing), so I know how TEDIOUS it is for recovery. 6 weeks in a cage or kennel where he can’t jump, pain meds & e-collars for the first 10 days. And possibility of messing with IBD symptoms.

Yeah….been an interesting summer so far. So thank for reading, ya’ll! I don’t comment much, but I usually check the site and your wonderful comments daily. The humor and kindness always makes my day. 🙂 Thanks for keeping up the world of Cutetropolis, NTMTOM 🙂

    • debg June 24, 2017 / 12:26 pm

My cats and I are sending all kinds of good vibes your way, for you and for Malcolm. We don’t like to see him or you hurting! That’s 1 human + 7 kitties all with crossed fingers and paws.

    • Gigi the cat lady June 24, 2017 / 1:09 pm

Healing thoughts from my 5 cats are on their way!

    • Laura June 24, 2017 / 1:26 pm

I’m so sorry Malcolm is hurting! We’re all sending our best wishes to him for a speedy discovery of how best to help him feel better.

    • Amyliz June 24, 2017 / 5:38 pm

I am so sorry Malcolm is ailing and hope he will be feeling better soon!
Gorgeous weather here today. Enjoyed the farmer’s market this morning, got some errands and chores done, and am just about to “chill and Netflix”! Meeting a friend tomorrow morning for breakfast at one of my favorite restaurants so am looking forward to that!

      • Jlamusings June 24, 2017 / 6:03 pm

        Thanks, everyone!

      • Ricky's Mom June 24, 2017 / 6:05 pm

I am so sorry Malcolm is in pain. I hope all will be well soon. Have you considered acupuncture for Malcolm? I can’t be absolutely sure, but I *think* it has helped with Ricky’s pain and improved his mobility a bit. Of course you should consult your vet first. I Am Not a Doctor.

  11. Patty June 24, 2017 / 12:46 pm

I am helping my brother move this weekend. They got a bigger house, and will be moving into it this weekend. They still own the one they are living in, so if it doesn’t get all done, it’s no big deal. His MIL is moving into the one they are leaving in August, but for now my SIL’s daycare will stay there until she gets the paperwork filed to change the location.
The kittens are everywhere, it’s chaos, but a fun chaos. They discovered the food dishes, and the litter box in their exploration, so that’s good. They seem to prefer hanging out on the love seat where my husband sits, even if it means sitting on him. I am including 3 pictures, one of all the kittens, one adorable picture of the one I found sleeping in the laundry, and one of the same kitten sleeping with the dog.

    • Patty June 24, 2017 / 12:47 pm

Will add the other 2 pics in replies.

    • Patty June 24, 2017 / 12:55 pm

      The whole set of kittens.

      Love the kitten pics!!

    • Jlamusings June 24, 2017 / 6:05 pm

Who ever thought a chihuahua could look so big!

      • Patty June 25, 2017 / 7:57 pm

Yeah, and she weighs just under 5 lbs.

  12. Laura June 24, 2017 / 1:35 pm

The kittens are adorable, Patty! And it’s great that your brother is letting his MIL move into his “old” house. My husband bought a house for his mom just before I met him, and she lived in it for years until she decided, 2 or 3 years ago, to move into a senior apartment. And then she was found to have lung cancer last fall and passed away in January. 🙁 She was such a great person, we really miss her! We rented the house for the last few years, but now we’re putting the house on the market — my husband had originally thought he might use it as his retirement home, but the VA hospital near the house isn’t up to his standards. The one here in Tampa is one of the best in the country, hence our move here; he has completely free medical care there. Drives me *crazy.* I want it, too! Oh well, I’m not a disabled vet, so I haven’t earned it. But I was really glad that my MIL had a house of her own choice to live in for those 20 or so years — my FIL had passed away suddenly when my husband was 18, leaving my MIL to raise 5 younger kids alone. So it was about time someone took care of *her* for a change!

In happier news, Melody has discovered that although her favorite neighbor, little 4-year-old Cordelia, moved away last weekend — clear across the country, to California — the folks who bought the house have a little girl who’s the same age Cordelia was when we moved in, about 3, and she also loves to hug Melody! So Melody came back from meeting her on her walk a little while ago so happy she was nearly floating on air! I’m glad she has a new little best friend. 😀

    • Patty June 24, 2017 / 2:32 pm

My brother’s wife, her mother, and her aunt all worked with us at Russell’s Restaurant for many years. My mother worked there, and all 6 of my siblings and I had our first jobs there. So, Debbie (my SIL) has been close to my family since I was 14. The house Debbie’s mom is moving into is the one my mother owned until her death from lung cancer in ’05. It was on contract (rent-to-ownish) when she died, and the owner didn’t want it, so he offered to continue the contract with one of us, and my brother was the only one with no house of his own, and a family small enough to fit into it. He paid us each, $1200 over a period of years, for our share. $1200 is what we would have each gotten if we had sold it, after we paid off Mom’s contract. I am happy Linda will finally have a place to live where she won’t have to worry about rent (her current landlord is selling her house).

      • Laura June 24, 2017 / 5:12 pm

That’s exactly why my husband bought his mom the house — she was renting in that neighborhood, which she loved, and her landlord raised her rent far beyond her ability to pay it as a senior on a fixed income. Over the years, if she wanted to help out with the mortgage on her new house, she could; but we never asked for a penny from her, and her gifts to us were things like painting the house or replacing the kitchen floor — work done by my BILs who live nearby and are very handy with tools. 🙂 It turned into a bit of a family project, too, but they don’t object to us selling it since technically we do own it and we’ve paid the vast majority of the mortgage over the years.

  13. Murray C June 24, 2017 / 4:53 pm

Oh, my goodness, so much going on I can’t keep it all in my head! Best of luck to all involved in moving ANYthing/body and to all those with animals issues – poor lonely doggie and poor hurting kitty. And KITTENS! thanks for sharing those, Patty!

Sometimes when I’m somewhere out in the world and watch people going by I become acutely aware that each and every one of them has a story – personal tragedy, glory, happiness or sadness and much of it is so interesting and full of amazing happenstance that it’s almost too much to bear! And here are all of us living out our little dramas (They seem huge to those actually living it, I realize) and we get to hear about it and react – we’re very lucky to be able to participate in this via our Cutetropolis connection and Mike. Thanks, Mike!

  14. N. Fritz June 24, 2017 / 6:25 pm

Hello teh Qte! My BF and I just wrapped up our 13th garden party – appropriately we had as our theme superstition and good luck. I made solstice bouquets and gave away good luck plants. Made ranch dressing and pimento cream cheese, both of which are virtually unknown in Austria. Guests cleared out by midnight. It was really a grand time, all the better because a hedgehog decided to crash the party. Will try to upload a pic!

A rogue hedgehog!!! I think that is a GOOD LUCK sign!!

How terrific – love them hedgies, and a wild one to boot. Party animal, I’m guessing.

Hello All! A little late to the party, and a least one cocktail into the evening, (ahem , just sayin’)… I’ve read all of the comments and wish all of you who need it – strength – and those who have things to celebrate – many congratulations! It seems today things are good – hectic but overall – good.
I taught a workshop today to the guild of bookworkers (yes there is such a thing!) and it went well. Not at all as I planned, but the participants were very kind and flexible.
In Beekeeping news: I have one hive that doesn’t have a queen. It has been so for a while. I was finally able to find someone who will sell me a new queen and I pick her up tomorrow. That is tomorrow’s morning plans, then I might be able to relax! For the first time in a few weeks. But there is probably something I’m forgetting…
Wishing you all a pleasant evening and wonderful Sunday!~xo

That reminds me, I have a bottle of Tito’s Handmade Vodka, a few cans of soda water, and half a lime. Can’t let that lime go to waste. ?

      • tara June 25, 2017 / 1:33 pm

        Cheers Allein!

    • Murray C June 24, 2017 / 10:25 pm

So, Tara, do you have a little red carpet and a trumpet fanfare ready to welcome the queen?

      • tara June 25, 2017 / 1:33 pm

heeheeheee! Murray C you got me giggling. Wouldn’t that be funny? Maybe I should. I picked her up this morning and the woman I bought her from said that I should let her walk out of her cage onto the top of a frame. Maybe I should put a little red carpet out for her. She is in a cage now so that the current hive doesn’t kill her but has time to get used to her. On Thursday or Friday I will let her out. If I remember- I’ll film it for you Murray C!:)

I did nothing this week and will do nothing this weekend… it was up to 91° today here at Chez Lily and we’re both melting from the heat. It’s too soon to be that hot! I even had to crank up the air conditioner… ugh.

My mom lives in a semi-rural area and constantly complains about the deer eating her roses. Well now she has 3 new ones that were born just a couple of days ago. She managed to catch a few seconds of video of all of them today!
    Video 1
    Video 2

Hope everyone’s plan for the weekend work out as intended or better!

    • Murray C June 24, 2017 / 10:26 pm

Your mother did very well – how sweet, two Bambis! I guess the roses can fend for themselves, huh?

      • Jan June 24, 2017 / 10:27 pm

THREE Bambis! Two different moms, one had a pair of twins!

        • Murray C June 24, 2017 / 10:35 pm

Oh, my bad – I realized that you had said 3 after I posted. I was figuring that it was the same mom and we only got to see one of them in the 1st video, but both in the second.

We’ve had terrible heat and awful humidity, which is VERY unusual for SE PA at this time of year. Tomorrow is supposed to be warm – 88 I think they said – but low humidity. That makes a huge difference. I need to get in the garden for at least a little while. and make something for the party I’m going to. Sigh.

    So this happened this morning:

This was about 5 and a half miles south of me; next town down the Route 9. There was also one about an hour south, a few miles from my friend’s house.

I managed to sleep through any storms (my mom said she got a tornado warning on her phone around 6:45 this morning).

    • Jan June 24, 2017 / 10:51 pm

Well, I could have used some of that rain today to cool off, but I’ll pass on the tornado, thanks! Really wicked video though!

      • Jan June 24, 2017 / 11:10 pm

Here’s a picture my dad took when we lived in Topeka. I was about a year and a half old and don’t remember it, but my mom says that the roar was really loud. (Click for big version.)

      • allein ? June 24, 2017 / 11:20 pm

I know! There was a small one some years ago in the next town in the other direction but it only did some minor damage to a tree. Not something you expect to see around here.

This article has a couple pictures at the Home Depot afterward. It says there were two tornadoes in the town, a little before 7:30am (both rated EF-0). (Doesn’t say if they were both near the Home Depot.) I didn’t find anything about any major damage.
        http://abc7ny.com/weather/national-weather-service-two-tornadoes-touch-down-in-new-jersey/2141342/

        This was interesting, too. http://nj1015.com/the-howell-home-depot-tornado-video-a-meteorologists-perspective/

Home Depot is on the highway and it’s mostly stores and restaurants around it (there are two shopping centers on the other side of the highway), most of which probably weren’t open that early (though I’d guess there were employees at at least some of them).

This is in my friend’s town; not sure if it was actually a tornado or not (though she shared some pictures on facebook that sure looked like one; she didn’t take them, thankfully). http://newjersey.news12.com/story/35740838/storm-damage-reported-following-tornado-warning-for-part-of-nj

        • Jan June 24, 2017 / 11:34 pm

Glad no one was hurt. Pacific NW doesn’t really have very exciting weather I guess…

          • Laura June 25, 2017 / 1:10 am

Well, you do have a volcano or three that could erupt and cause some interesting weather! And you have earthquakes; I was in a 6.2 quake in Seattle in 6th grade. It was really cool, to be honest! I was also in the Northridge quake in LA; that was far less fun; frankly, it was terrifying!

Thus far I’ve been in hurricanes and earthquakes. No floods — although we came close during one tropical storm in New Orleans — and no tornadoes yet, and I hope those both continue to be in the “No” column! My grandmother, who grew up on the plains of Nebraska, as a child was in a tornado; it picked her up and deposited her, completely unharmed, 100 yards (91 meters) away! She had quite a life. I’ll have to tell you about her husband, my grandfather, who was an indentured orphan, some time!

            • Jan June 25, 2017 / 10:33 am

There was a 6.8 earthquake in Seattle in 2001 that caused quite a bit of damage downtown. It was pretty energetic at my office as well (~30 minutes north of Seattle), but no damage. They closed the building down for the day to check for gas leaks and such and we got to go home. Still, all the experts keep promising “The Big One” any day now!

I wasn’t here for the Mt. St. Helens eruption in 1980, but it’s still churning stuff out; not likely to have another really big eruption like the last though. They say that Glacier Peak is the most likely to blow next, it’s the most unstable. I live about halfway between it and Seattle so I would probably get a little fallout from that, but I’m not in it’s direct path (thankfully). Mt. Baker is pretty quiet; it has steam vents, but not much other activity. Rainier is relatively unstable, but not too bad and Mt. Adams I don’t know about. Mt. Hood could effect us as well, but it’s dormant (not fully extinct, but no activity). I’m not too worried all in all.

  18. Murray C June 24, 2017 / 10:47 pm

Whoa, Nelly, that’s amazing! And so scarey. Glad you’re safe, Allein.

  19. murkle46 June 25, 2017 / 3:55 am

I was watching out the window during a storm and was impressed by the strong wind. Then I noticed the wind and rain were going sideways with loudly, much determination. Then it went vertical with wind still loud for a moment before it started blowing in the opposite sideways direction as fiercely as before. There was still a good amount of daylight left,so I got a front row seat to the F0 tornado my duplex apartment passed through.
It was weak as they can get,so it didnt do any harm to my place, but it tore a maple tree 100 feet away to shreds and further down tore a huge limb of a large tree that took out a 4 door sedan of some make.
    It was remarkable.
