Everyone pile on Roscoe!!! What cutie pies! But at least it will make it easier to scoop them all up and run.
Me and the 4 legged one are off to PAWmicon today. It’s a pet fair/costume contest to help support one of our local animal shelters. – https://hazardcenter.com/superhero/. Since San Diego is hosting that small geek convention called ComicCon next week, this helps get things started. Pupster has a Batman sweater and I’ll wear a Batman shirt. I’m gonna wait to put the sweater on him until right before the costume judging as it’s feeling pretty tropical this morning.
Other than that, not much happening this weekend, just usual chores and errands. And oh yeah, getting ready to go see hubby in two weeks. Originally he was set to come home July 24 for a couple weeks then fly to another job site. Wellll, that got pushed back by 2 weeks so now I’m going back to Hawaii at the end of the month so we can celebrate his birthday together. I’m just a little ticked off at his company because I had the flights all set then canceled them when they said no he’ll be back on the 24th, so yesterday I had to rebook the exact same flights but then had to pay a $200 change fee. UUURRRRGGHHH! I feel like sending his company that bill for them to reimburse us.
Stay Cool everyone!

Good morning everyone! I get to spend this weekend in Helena Montana, my favorite place on earth. I came out here yesterday to go to a to music festival last night and an outdoor symphony tonight. In the meantime, I have to get going wandering the mansion district and the slopes of Mount Helena, and hitting up the farmers market for some sapphires this morning. And avoiding the extreme heat advisory today too. Happy weekend!
Faye, if you will distract everyone, I will grab the bottom one for you and the second from the top for me. No one would suspect a Duckie with glasses and a cane, would they?

Lily is looking good (even though she never manages to clean those smudges off her face).

I’ve been binge-reading books about the Norman Conquest. Tomorrow I’m thinking of visiting Stamford Bridge – about seven miles away from where I live – the site of a battle in which King Harold Godwinson defeated Harald Hardrada, King of Norway. Unfortunately for him, his victorious army were almost immediately obliged to march down to the other end of England without so much as a pause for a cup of tea and a Kit-Kat and were defeated by the Normans at Hastings.
debgJuly 15, 2017 / 1:32 pm
Oooh, Alice, which books? Before I turned to the Crusades, Norman England was going to be my PhD history focus. My advisor, Warren Hollister, was one of the foremost historians in that field.

Went out early today running errands and having breakfast at a nice restaurant Ben & Florentine. Then I had to go to Best Buy to get a case for the new iPod Nano I bought myself for my birthday, the rest of the weekend will be quiet, some reading and catching up on stuff on the DVR.
I would take the second from the top in a heartbeat, I never had a marmie and I always wanted one!

Marmies just squeeze my heart–so much, that I didn’t just squee when I saw this photo. I pretty much yelled in delight.
Now that the biggest stuff on the staircase rebuilding project is done, I’m taking it easy. Just blocked 2 lace shawlettes and a sweater; now settling down to lunch, computer, then knitting to an audiobook.
Everybody else’s weekend plans sound lovely. Jan, your Lily gets more beautiful every day. AJ, I wish my cats would let me dress them up in superhero costumes!

Today is the last full day of my “let me recover and get my bearings after school ends” vacation. And I climbed a mountain, y’all! 650 meters (2000+ feet!) straight up. It took two hours and I am so stinkin’ proud of myself! Gonna take a nice, long, hot bubble bath tonight to soothe those overtaxed leg muscles. Tomorrow I go back home to sort papers and start preparing for the fall semester!

It’s been a week. Tuesday morning at 4:30 I got a call from my brother. “I think I’m going to have a seizure, come take me to the ER.” I got there and he was jerky, and could barely talk. There was no way I was going to get him to my car alone, so I called 911. The EMS came and carried him out to the ambulance and I followed them to the hospital. ER staff hooked up an IV, gave him a small dose of Ativan, checked his anti-seizure medicine levels in his blood. Then after 2 hours and no seizure, they sent him home. I got him home, made sure he was feeling okay, and he said the EMT had accused him of faking it, and asked if he was drinking. Larry has had 2 tumors removed from his cerebellum, which makes his speech slurred and his walking stumbly.
Around 2:30 pm, Larry called from the ER, said he had fallen and thought his leg was broken so he called 911 again. When I got to the ER, the nurse told me he had a seizure at home, fell and broke his leg, then had a seizure again when they went to transfer him from the gurney to the hospital bed. He broke the fibula, which is the small bone in your leg. They put a boot on him, got his levels adjusted, and sent him home. Now he is more disabled than before, at least for 6 wks.
My car door latch isn’t working, the little metal thingy doesn’t flip back as far as it should, so in order to open and close the door, I have to lift the door up. Needless to say, this hasn’t helped the shoulder and the wrist I hurt moving furniture last weekend, and they both still hurt.
The kittens are adorable, and are great entertainment, though, so that helps. Here’s a picture of one of them (there’s another that is identical to this one), a bit blurry, because she was moving.
DulcieJuly 15, 2017 / 3:40 pm
Oh my. That ER attendant should be smacked upside the head. So sad. And so sorry that it happened to you and your brother at a time like this. I hope this things get better. Hugs.
AND the kitty is just a pile of sweet. Of course she was moving!! They don’t stand still until they fall over dead asleep!
Ricky's MomJuly 15, 2017 / 5:15 pm
I’m so sorry your brother (and you) had to deal with such an ignorant EMT. So often they are true heroes, and it’s just rotten that you got one who was less than the best.
I hope your brother heals fully and quickly, and that you have a chance to breathe an de-stress. Kittens seem like an excellent prescription!
DulcieJuly 15, 2017 / 5:38 pm
Yes you are totally right Ricky’s Mom. The EMTs are truly heroes and made of great stuff. This guy must have been filling in for a real one.
PattyJuly 15, 2017 / 10:14 pm
I just wish I knew if it was the same one who took him to the ER last time he had a seizure. They took him in the ambulance, decided he wasn’t going to have a seizure, set him in a chair in the waiting area, where he had a seizure and fell on the floor, and scraped his forehead. I complained, and they apologized. He can tell when one is coming on, but it seems some EMTs are so used to drunks calling for rides to the ER, they are skeptical, and tend to not believe he knows when they are coming. I just think if they had listened to him, they wouldn’t have sent him home, and his leg wouldn’t be broken. I’ve no doubt EMT’s opinions influence ER staff’s decisions. When they sent him home the first time he was still jerking, although not as much as when he got there, and could hardly walk.
Here’s another kitten picture. There are 2 kittens on the other side of the door, and they are all sticking paws under and swatting kittens on the opposite side.
AmylizJuly 15, 2017 / 5:45 pm
So sorry to hear about your brother! How unkind and unprofessional of that EMT. I hope your brother improves soon and that get a chance to relax and de-stress.
Quiet Saturday here. Farmer’s market, haircut, chores. Netflix tonight and tomorrow am meeting friends for brunch at a favorite restaurant that makes a great Bloody Mary!

I should be working (writing up rehearsal notes), but I’m taking a brief break. Ricky has been very impatient with me; I think he’s bored, and I don’t blame him. Yesterday the weather was too miserable to go out; today I’ve had too much work to do to pay His Royal Hiney sufficient obeisance.
Yesterday was so dismal that I actually started cleaning an re-arranging my bookshelves, which I haven’t done since I moved in about five and a half years ago. The dust was horrific! All the dusting is done now, and the refilling of the shelves is almost complete. I don’t think I have quite the right arrangement, but it will do until I can figure out something better. I think I need to give more books away to the library—always painful, but still necessary.
One of the staff in my building called Ricky that. I darn near fell on the floor, it was so perfect. So now that’s one of my fave nicknames for the little guy.
I’m still wrestling with book arrangement, but all the shelves are clean!
Duckie ?July 15, 2017 / 6:35 pm
Ricky’s Mom, I’ll take any books you don’t want…
Ricky's MomJuly 15, 2017 / 7:12 pm
Be careful what you wish for, Duckie! I have a strange assortment. For example, I really wouldn’t want to subject you to Pamela, for example; Fielding thought it was so awful he wrote two parodies of it, and IMO they are both significantly better books. I’ve read Clarissa, which is easily ten times as long as Pamela, and I can tell you that slogging through Pamela *felt* ten times longer than Clarissa!
I usually give books to the New York Public Library or to Housing Works (a local charity that supports people who are HIV+ or have AIDS). Though having just just given Pamela such a hard sell, maybe I should rethink whether it would really be charitable to give it to either institution. 🙂

Kitty lovers, the Itty Bitty Kitty Committee has only four days left to meet their fundraising goal of 100 squillion dollars! There’s a particularly good matching-donation deal going on until 7 PM Pacific Time today. For every dollar you give, your dollar is matched by an anonymous donor. For every $25 donated, another donor will make a washable fleece bed for the shelter kitties (as you can imagine, the shelter goes through a lot of bedding).
If you haven’t been following the IBKC, there are *lots* of adorable posts to catch up on. Laurie takes great pictures! You can read about this particular matching challenge at http://www.theittybittykittycommittee.com/2017/07/the-cozy-bed-challenge.html and there’s also information on the site about auction items, items for sale at the IBKC store, and other ways to help—because Kitties need the Monies!
I’ve been a devoted follower of IBKC since finding them via a link on CO, years ago. Even though I’m in NYC and Laurie fosters her kitties in Tacoma, I just think the work she does is so wonderful that I really want to support it. I’ve sent as many monies as I can afford, and I’ve been restrained about posting here—this is only my second post, and I figure it will be my last for this fundraising season. So thank you for letting me say my bit for the itty bitties!
Eeek! I totally forgot to mention that this week marks ONE YEAR since Lily waltzed in and took ownership of my house and life. I got her home in the middle of the night, covered in fleas and filth, and gave her a bath very first thing! I’m just glad she eventually forgave me for that 🙂
