The changing of the guard happens many times a day at my house. Dora is especially good at finding soft, warm, cozy places to curl up. Jack, the dominant cat, sees her and figures if that’s a good spot, HE must have it! Usually all he has to do is sit and stare at her a minute. Sometimes she makes a brief show of hissing and snapping at him, but she always gives it up eventually. (If she waits too long, she gets the dreaded ear chomp.)

My Wacket did not want Minkette lying on me. If she got onto my lap while I was in bed, knowing that I did not allow him to beat her (his first choice), he would climb onto me between her and me. He would carefully settle himself facing me and slightly on her so that he was pushing her. He was too funny so I would allow it. She usually gave up and moved, but sometimes she stood her lap, and he would move off, steam coming out of his ears.
Something tells me Maru would be bad at this job…
