A kind young photographer found a baby squirrel lost and hungry on his front doorstep. After taking it in and feeding the baby, he thought he might have a new pet. But then mama squirrel showed up and after a joyful reunion carried her baby up and away.

Proof that there are still kind people in this world.
At the end, “This is the best feeling” and his expression, I’m melting!
Plus, stripes! 🙂
I couldn’t see much after mama showed up. Too many tears of happy.
And the noises were adorable.
Wonderful story, lovely young man (and good photographer). The mother’s brave approach to see her baby, the strength she had to carry a not so small baby – wonderful, wonderful story!
When she climbed up that big metal pipe carrying Junior, I gasped out loud. She’s a ninja! Awesome job all around.
Baby squirrel trying to nurse, Mama trying to get him to follow her. She even thanked the young man when she went over to his hand. Sweet.
That was clearly in India (his Facebook page says Delhi), and depending on this lovely young man’s religion (there are multiple religions in India, not just Hinduism), he has been taught from a young age to care for all animal life. And clearly, Rahul has taken those lessons to heart!
I will admit that that truly frightening power pole gave me pause, though!
Does anyone know what kind of squirrel this was? It has stripes like a North American chipmunk but a squirrel tail. I guess I should do a bit of research!
Funambulus palmarum or Indian Palm Squirrel. Gotta love that scientific name!
Very cool – thanks for the lookup!
One of my fave scientific names is the gorilla, whose full Latin name is ‘Gorilla gorilla gorilla.’
Squirrel story is fantastic. Such a serendipitous encounter of three perfect beings. The urban setting with all the noise and wires has not chocked off all life.
Kindnesses to our fellow travelers comes in many forms. We never know if one small kindness was really the sole purpose of our life.
Know that this is in India but those tails worry me.
In my neck of the woods, we’d be burrowing like crazy and vacuuming up acorns like they were cat hair if we saw such thick, long tails on squirrels.
yes, even in northern New Jersey, this was true for us.
Sweet story, but just a word: giving cow’s milk to baby squirrels may give them serious diarrhea. If you find a baby squirrel and can’t get it back to mama, look up and call a licensed wildlife rehabilitator in your area.
