Good morning Cutetropolians. Love the new banner (Bootropolis – ha!) and all the links today.
I’ve been needing a little pick me up as the last week has been pretty upsetting and crazy. Don’t want to be a debbie downer today but I think I mentioned my mom had not been doing well for several weeks, well she passed on Thursday. Luckily I got a chance to see her before she died and tell her I loved her. She went peacefully later that. day

AJ, I am so sorry about the loss of your mother. It is a difficult time for sure but happy memories make it much easier. So think of her often with a smile and a laugh and she’ll be in your heart forever.
So very sorry about your loss, AJ. It’s good that you had some last moments with her.

I’m sorry for your loss. My mother died last year so my understanding of your situation is vivid. My mother’s death has had a bigger and more long-lasting impact than I expected. It will take a while to get through this. And I think it changes you. Good luck.
I’m so sorry, AJ. I’m glad you found some comfort here.

So very sorry to hear that news; please take care of yourself and give yourself time to heal as well. The Cute can sometimes help cope; I think many can attest to that.

Thanks everyone for the nice words and “hugs”. Even though we were expecting it, it was still tough and I think it’s just starting to hit me. I do think losing a mom is harder, my dad passed about 1-1/2 years before her and even though I was sad, I was able to process it and accept it. This time, I’m struggling a little bit, maybe as time goes on it will become easier. I just taking comfort in the happy memories we had.

I’m so sorry, AJ. Yes, losing your mom is hard. I lost mine on Christmas Eve last year, so I understand how it takes time to process. I’m so glad you had time with her, though; it’s so important to have the chance to say goodbye and express your love! You can have happy memories of all the good times you had with her, I hope. {{{AJ}}}

This line from the dog facial expressions story made me ‘awww’:
“He would ignore a piece of meat if he could receive a cuddle,”

It’s okay, Lulu. I’m not a big fan of “explosive odors” either..

And in other news, Science has determined that if you pay attention to cats, they will ignore you.

Those baby otters! I did my grad work at UC Santa Barbara, and because it’s such an expensive place to live, the zoo was my favorite recreation. You could always tell when it was feeding time because the otters would stand on their hind legs and squeak REALLY loudly!
“The parents didn’t come out to greet us, and then we heard squeaks,” said the Zoo’s Curator of Mammals Michele Green. “That’s how we knew Gail had given birth.” Yeah, I can imagine!

I can’t decide which is cuter, the otterling being held in one hand, or the chubble on Fiona!
Yesterday I met my neighbour’s baby cockatiel. He sat on my shoulder with all his head feathers erect, and when she tried to take him off, he hissed at her and hid in my hair.
