At Doggie Driving School

“OK, I think we got a little ahead of ourselves in yesterday’s lesson, but fortunately the homeowner says the damage to his rose garden wasn’t that bad. For this lesson, let’s just concentrate on driving in a circle.”

Kitty might wanna get out of the way!

Are you sure it was a kitty? I couldn’t tell. I thought maybe it was long haired chihuahua or something. I managed a screen cap. Sorry it’s so blurry; the site seems to be enlarging it by a lot. Or is this not what you thought was a kitty, is there a third animal in the video that I missed entirely?

Oh, you might be right. Well, I didn’t even see him the first time I watched. The second time I noticed a dark furry thing wandering around and assumed kitty. 😛

Puppers really looked like he was driving. Too precious!

    Driving Miss Daisy, indeed!

I wanna know how they did that.

I’m guessing there may be a parental override that lets mom or dad steer it remotely?

It sure did LOOK like the car was turning when the doggie turned the wheel, but maybe it was the wheel turning the dog? The wheel was controlled remotely and the dog merely moved with it? At the very least I assume the parent had the same control my drivers ed teacher did lo, these many decades ago — a brake. If disaster is imminent, they can stop the vehicle. Parent probably controlled both accelerator and brake. Or speed is constant (there IS no accelerator) and brake is the only speed control.

Hmmm….the pup may have begun to realize that moving the wheel affected the movement of the car.

It really looked like he did! Do dogs have that level of intelligence? They can’t figure out to turn a stick sideways to get it through a gate, but they can figure out they are steering a car? Or (as per my note above) was the car steering the dog, so to speak?

“Turn right here…now, see that was my fault again. I meant at the next street…not onto this man’s lawn.”

Will anyone under the age of 60 recognize this reference, or have Bob Newhart’s original, pre-sitcom routines remained famous?

I love the casual driving position, one paw on the wheel, the other leaning on the dash. There did seem to be some relationship between the dog’s turning the wheel and the direction the car went in. But the actual powering of the car seemed remote, so maybe the directional part was, too.

I have just imagined driver doggie at the heat of road rage 🙂
I wish all the drivers were so calm!

Down the road… I can just see family therapy re sibling rivalry. Kid turns to dog: “Mom always liked you best.”

Needs a cat on a Roomba.

The sweet baby kissing the sweet doggo was my favorite. Baby loves his dog friend/driver. Sweet.
