Wow! Another reader pet submission, this time from Gigi the cat lady, who writes: “My cat Penny decided I had spent enough time on the computer and it was time to pet her.”

Pretty tortie. Mine also lets me know when it is time to pay attention to HER! ?
Aw, a tortie! Of course she demands attention; torties demand more than any other type of cat I’ve been a servant for. My Emily, who left this Earth at nearly 19 a couple of years ago, was just like that, and when I had wprked enough or stopped petting ger too soon or, worst sin of all, gave her the wrong type of gushy food (even though it had been her favorite tbe day before), boy, did I hear about it!
How long has Penny been your boss, Gigi?
I can’t believe it but it’s been 10 years already!
?
OK, one of my favorite tumblr posts was taking that gif and tagging it as McGonagall taking animagus Harry Potter back to Griffyndor Tower.
🙂
?
Boooop and smooooch that stare away for me Gigi!
I know that look well. My dilute torbie is always trying to knock my phone out of my hands, and if found unattended she will gnaw on it. Leetle teethy marks in my phone case and creases on my screen protector.
If I’m watching tv and she feels unattended to, she will threaten the lamp, or, use her claws on the speakers. My speakers look like hell.
Her nickname is beast.
Oh, do I know that look. I get it daily from my Zelda. Aren’t torties great?
Penny was found in 2007 in the middle of winter, hiding under a tree in the backyard of a woman I used to work with. The lady couldn’t keep her so I offered to take her. The vet said she was about 2 years old at the time so that makes her 12 now.
She’s never been friendly with my other cats, I think she’s just a loner at heart but she loves to cuddle with me and my husband, in fact she’s sleeping beside me on the couch at the moment.
I have a Tortie, too but she’s not a cuddler. Penny is almost a chimera with that parti-colored face! Very dear. Do any of you have this issue – our cat has become so violently vocal at times. I go to bed and just as I’m about to nod off she comes up the stairs screaming as she comes! Sometimes she’ll scream when she sees me during the day and it makes me jump it’s so loud. Today she was looking into the room where she thought I ought to be and I came walking down the hall towards her and as soon as she saw me she let loose like a hell cat! She’s 18, so I know part of it may be hearing issues but I don’t think that’s all. Perhaps some dementia?
Unfortunately at that age dementia is a possibility, maybe see if your vet knows something that could help.
I think that’s just hearing loss! My friend’s cat who was 18 (has since passed) was partly blind, and pretty deaf, and had the loudest meow evar.
One weekend, this friend had a party, and a lot of us stayed over, sleeping where we could. I was upstairs, and the only bathroom was downstairs. So, in the middle of the night, I sneak down to use said bathroom. There were people sleeping on the couch, and in chairs, and kitty was chilling under the dining room table. Well, she saw me and started meowing SO LOUD I was sure she woke someone up.
Yes, by about age 17, Emily’s meowing had turned into incredibly accusatory YELLING. I think it was hearing issues for her, too. Also, I’ve read that cats get more vocal as they age.
Pretty cat! Of course there should be lots of reader submissions, since we all have adorable pets. I do have a cute picture I took yesterday, of Grace spooning Sophie (the chihuahua). It’s perfect snuggling weather, and they were in my desk chair, which is in front of a heat vent.
Callie is a dilute tortie, and she definitely lets me know when it’s time for pets, and then she drools while I am petting her.
Yesterday, Facebook reminded me of a post that I shared last year, of the Chihuahua in the silver wig and plaid dress (I shared it because a friend of mine has the same hair!), and I clicked on it and reread the comments. You told the story of how you got Sophie. 🙂 (There was also a whole conversation about the convenience store Wawa.)
Stars drools when she’s happy, too. It’s… kinda gross… 😛
I’m going to say that they’re snuggling, not conserving body heat.
Mine loves to sleep between my legs at night and in the linen closet during the day.
That is so stinkin’ cute!
Gigi, I’m glad Penny is there for you, to intervene when we can’t! She’s a beauty.
Cats, they don’t waste time being subtle, do they?
Just got back from a friend’s. She had someone in looking at their gas fireplace. The man was on the floor on his stomach in front of the unit, checking out its innards. He had taken his shoes off because it was muddy outside.
Their cat was crouched on the floor behind the repair man, eyeing his feet. This cat has a fondness for toe nomming. She warned the repair man about this, but I had to leave before anything happened. I’ve been giggling off and on for about an hour now, wondering what happened.
Gotta love them Torties! The only tortie in my life right now (a friend’s) was run over by a car last week. RIP Primrose.
I’m so sad to hear about that. I have friends who just got two kittens and one has already succumbed to the same fate. ?
Penny is beautiful, and you can tell she means business.
Grace and Sophie are so cute together.
I’m so sorry to hear about Primrose. 🙁
