Merry Christmas to everyone in Cutetropolis, and I hope you’ve enjoyed our mostly cat-oriented holiday items today. To close, here’s a heart-tugging cartoon sent by Elizabeth G. to remind us that welcoming strangers into our hearts and lives is the best gift of all.
Dangit, who brought onions into my house again?
My darling Terence, gone for a long time now, reached out to me through the bars of his cage when I was looking at cats. He came home with me and brightened my world for 11 years. Miss you baby.
Makes you want to go out and give another homeless kitty a furrever home.
Workin’ on that.
This post made me cry bitter tears. It reminded me how shelters rejected me about ten years ago. I chose a sweet 7-8 year old tabby and the shelter did not accept me as a reliable cat owner, so I could not get the kitty. They asked questions about my living conditions, and I didn’t know what “the right answers” were. I live in a house with a big garden, so all our cats come and go, we allow them to go out whenever they want, they enjoy climbing trees etc. But the shelter said there is no guarantee they won’t be run over by a car or a truck if I don’t keep them inside so they allow only responsible people to adopt…. oh well.
Hugs and tissues all around. I found this video last week. I lost my 12-year-old kitty, Gidget, in February. She used to love sleeping under our tree. We left it up until April one year because we couldn’t bear to take it away from her. (It’s artificial, of course.)
There were presents in her spot this morning. She did leave me two tufts of fur this week on a blanket that’s been washed several times since she passed, though.
Peace to all and may all animals be loved.
Aww man.
Love how they made a point that this was an older kitty, not a kitten. Kittens are great, but at some point, you want a mature cat who understands the value of sleeping on top of your lap/legs.
Oh geez. That’s what I get for chopping onions and garlic for dinner. May all older kitties find love and the home they deserve.
Awww. The hand/paw on the window put me over the edge…
My cousin’s ex-wife, who passed away a few weeks ago, left behind two ktties. He can’t keep them because he’s allergic, but today his daughter told me she’s taking them back with her when she goes back to school (she just graduated last weekend but she has a job at the lab where she was working during school, and she’s studying for the MCAT, so he got her an apartment out there), so that makes me happy.
When we adopted Bobcat, the tag on his cage said he was 3 years old. I knew that was a crock, but I didn’t care because he was so sweet. Our vet said he was more like 10, and he had a heart murmur from a malformed valve. We had him for four years, and he had some specialist vet bills, but he was worth it. Sweetest boy I’ve ever known, and I still miss him twelve years and several (overlapping) cats later.
Very sweet. Emsthemonster, I’d have the same problem if I were trying to adopt a cat. I”m not sure I could keep a cat inside, at least not in the house we’re in presently. Were you able to get another kitty at another time?
I hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas – I’m exhausted from cooking and cleaning up but I needed to decompress by coming here to see what was going on!
Well, never from a shelter. At least other shelters turned me away politely and right at the start (before falling in love with a kitty), not as if I were a cat torturing criminal.
It would be possible to keep them inside, I just don’t see the point. They would most probably live longer as inside cats, but why should I deprive them of enjoying our garden, catching mice etc. Tbh if I had to choose bw living a glamorous life in a palace where I cannot do much apart from looking beautiful (= as my cats are indeed beautiful), or getting dirty in the garden, getting lost in the forest on my way back from running lol, I wouldn’t want to stay inside either. Felix could maybe get used to a life inside, but Marci is a lil’ energy bomb, he would demolish the furniture 🙂
Anyway if I really need a cat (although I hope I wont need new kitties in the next 15 years or so) I can check the free kitties ads on the Internet, this is how I got these two mischief makers as well.
Great cartoon. Reminded me of my first encounter with my beloved tabby… when the folks at the shelter took her from the cage and brought her to me in the “meeting room”, she promptly climbed on my lap and snuggled against my shoulder, hiding under my hair, kneading and purring. Love at first sight, a bond that lasted for 10 years until she passed away and left a big empty hole in my heart; the current cat is much loved, but I still miss my sweet tabby girl.
Three cheers for Cats Protection! I got my late cat Daisy from their York branch – probably the best £30 I ever spent.

My 2 rescues got baby-food pureed chicken for xmas, their fav.
Our 12-year-old girl died very unexpectedly six weeks ago. We’d always intended on being pet-less for a while after her passing so we could do some traveling but she passed too soon! The plan was to have her for at least another 5-10 years. We lasted just two weeks without a kitty in the house. A month ago, we adopted a 13-year-old girl named Margo. The SPCA said she’d been at the shelter EIGHT TIMES longer than any of the other cats simply because she’s “old”. She’s wonderful and everything a hoomin could ever want in a cat! She loves to be brushed and pet all over (belleh snorgles are welcome!), cuddles next to us when we’re on the couch, and chooses to sleep in her own bed at night with nary a disturbance to our own valuable sleep. Good litter habits and a ready-to-go purr, I feel sorry for all the people who passed her up due to her age.
Gorgeous girl. Their loss. She was waiting for you!
Two weeks is a long wait! Lol.
Beautiful kitty, I wish you many happy years with her!
I’m so glad that she finally found her family.
What a pretty girl! Good on you for bringing her home — you know she appreciates having her own people to command and rule again!
She sounds like the perfect cat!?
I’M not crying, YOU’RE crying!!
Yes, yes I am crying! What a sweet and lovely cartoon. Spent Christmas at my sister’s house; they have a very fluffy, black and white kitty named Sophie who has very little time or patience for any human other than my brother-in-law. Fortunately, he is one of those guys who likes to act kind of gruff but in reality is a marshmallow and spoils Her Majesty Sophie in grand style!?
Aw so precious! I am unfortunately allergic to cats so must get my fill via a screen! Thank goodness for Cutetropolis!
I adopted MANY bunnies over the years, so this made me tear up, also.?
