*giggle* LOVE that surreptitious paw!! I used to have a cat who did behind a flower bowl on the dining table, and would extend such paw around the bowl to steal whatever tidbit of food captured his fancy. We all acted as if we did not see, and let him enjoy his version of big game hunting… 😀
Close confinement seems fine as long as there is a puppy involved.
