Here’s one last little holiday leftover that’s too good to save until next year, from readers Kerry & Julie, who write: “Our neighbor was able to photograph our neighborhood peacock, Percy, at just the correct angle, from his front door. Percy was roosting on his front railing.”

Is a neighborhood peacock covered by HOA fees?
I’m the Julie (Luv Bunny) who sent this pic. Our neighborhood used to have 2 male peacocks and a peahen. Most of us loved them coming around visiting and laying on our porches, decks, railings, trees and roofs. But one neighbor shot 2 of them ???? because they simply didn’t care for them. I’ve never met them and Never , Ever, care to see them. The outrage was immediate. The sheriff couldn’t do anything but warn them not to shoot in the neighborhood again. Our HOA board members were also very upset and would have talked it over and if needed, would have humanely had them relocated. The peacocks just one day adopted our neighborhood and most of us loved them back. The few who didn’t just shooed them away. So now, it’s just poor, lonely Percy who hangs with the many wild turkeys, that also live in our area.
What a sad story! I’m glad Percy gets love from many residents, as well as the wild turkeys.
Thoughtless. Or they enjoyed it.
I’m so angry at this story that I’ll just shut up because I would say very bad words!?
I’ll say it for you Gigi, what an asshole. It never ceases to amaze me that there are so many assholes in this world.
Thank you for saying what we had in mind.
It’s hard to fathom what would lead someone to kill peacocks. There is something frightening about such a person.
Percy needs a peahen.
He does need a peahen. He cried for months after losing his two friends. It made many neighbors very sad to hear him. We got a peahen but something happened to her. We think either a wild animal possibly got her or she left on her own. So, he follows the wild turkeys or goes from one house to another and especially to one neighbor who allows him in their garage to visit and be fed.
That’s heartbreaking.
I would’ve pushed for discharging a gun within town limits.
We had neighborhood peacocks in Florida. Had one male that fell in love with a blue buick. Pined for it.
Sad story, but a fabulous pic! I love, love, love me some peacocks! Every year I buy an annual pass for a park in a city an hour and a half away so I can visit the peacocks there whenever I want!
It’s sad that someone didn’t see the peacocks for the gift that they were. I hope Percy is able to find some other Pea-friends, along with this Turkey friends.
