Maru and the Ascent of Mt. Box

Among climbers it is known simply as Box. Its punishing, treacherous west face has rebuffed hundreds of attempts over the decades, sending would-be conquerors sliding to humiliating defeat. And now the legendary Maru, perhaps the world’s foremost expert on box exploration, leads a fresh assault on this unyielding titan.

That was suspenseful, Andrew Y.

This made my day! I love Hanna’s surprise appearance at the beginning, watching Maru researching and planning, and—best of all— the dramatic ending!

Yeah, Hana at the beginning: Maybe I shouldn’t be in here? Eh, it’s okay…

I laughed from the beginning to the end! Howled when Hana popped out (then she went back in!). Again when Maru looked at the camera as if to say, “Uh, a little help here? This thing is ginormous!” And, when he finally reached the summit before sliding back down to base camp. What a cat. ?

Yes, the plea for help was excellent. And he seemed a bit dubious that he had really achieved anything wonderful just before he slid back down. Maru, you are a character.

Yeah, me too. Oh, these cats!

“It is not the box we conquer but ourselves.”

      My thought, exactly!

This is so typically Maru. When finally presented with a box that will accommodate his girth, he chooses to squash it.
I wonder what the two of them would do if the box was upside down.

I have seen both of the videos multiple times but they are still just as funny as the first.

      Glorious!

I would always introduce my students to Maru with “Maru and the Giant Box.”

Wow, Maru can be quite agile!

I’m rather impressed by the flight correction so subtle it can only be seen in slow motion.
