Baby octopus birth makes Internet happy
Never seen an octopus hatching? You’re about to, thanks to video shared by the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center last Wednesday. The ten-second footage of a baby Caribbean Reef octopus emerging from its egg has been viewed over 600,000 times, reports the Washington Post.

It’s like a little octopus flower! Neat how he immediately changes color.
Also, just because:
I thought the same things, Allein! I wonder how it senses the need to activate its color cells? Temperature? water currents? Looking at the background instead of its fellow octopi? And thanks for sharing the image- Hail Hydrant, indeed! 🙂
Love that pic!
Ack! ☺️???
I want to see them ALL hatch! ? ?????
Why only 10 seconds? I protest, Virginia Aquarium!
Me, too! Aren’t they gorgeous?
So cute! The thing I don’t understand is why in many movies and books the evil organization’s symbol is an octopus ?. There is nothing evil about these incredible creatures.
There’s also an NRO secret project with this patch:
The critters look alien to be sinister to the different-therefore-scary crowd (racists)
The cutest thing about that is the tiny fish observer. He inspects the egg closely, like he knows something’s about to happen. Then after almost getting run over by the baby octopus, looks after it like “What the…?!”
I saw that too! 🙂
I completely missed that! I’m so unobservant. Little fishie got his hat.
Could it be a shrimp? If so, I suspect that it’s thinking something like “Ooh, a baby octopus! Wait…octopus…don’t they eat shr —-” *gets the hell out*

😀 I think we are both increasing the views to 1.49… but at the beginning I think a sibling zipped by before this one emerged.
Yes, an octobaby definitely zooms across at the beginning.
I didn’t notice that either! I’m glad I have you guys around to point out all the neat stuff my brain overlooks. ^_^
