Go With the Floe

(Hmm… There don’t appear to be any field mice out scampering around today. As a matter of fact, I’m not even sure this is a field. I think I got bad directions.)

    I’d be so seasick…

I get seasick in the bath, but somehow I still found this soothing. Go know!

Maybe he is enjoying the ride?To a flying animal experiencing the same sensations of flight without effort must be trippy.
What I wonder is how he ended up on the ice-flow in the first place.

Maybe he thinks he’s bobbing along on a cloud mass.

Sorry, Gigi! That’s how I felt about yesterday’s husky video. I think the sound of this one is what makes it soothing. Don’t ask me why. ?

Snowy Owls will hunt for and eat all sorts of ducks too, so maybe this young owl is searching for that perfect Easter dinner of duck a l’orange?

I’ve seen Bald Eagles floating on chunks of ice in the Merrimack River as the tide goes in and out of the mouth of the Atlantic ocean.

Perhaps she’s taking a break from her Hogwarts deliveries. “Those kids are making my wings hurt. I just need some me time.”

I hope its feet aren’t stuck!

I think he’s safe – if he were stuck, he’d likely be flapping and acting distressed. I think he’s just enjoying the scenery.

For some reason, owl head swivels always make me laugh. It hardly looks real.

That was simply beautiful, and so relaxing.

    1) Why is the poor snow owl there?

    and even more important..

    2) Who in the world was there (and why) with a camera to capture this on video?!

      From the Youtube video description:

Occurred on January 20, 2018 / Oswego, New York, USA

“Gary and I often go looking for animals and birds to photograph and had been hoping to spot a snowy owl as we had heard there were some in the Oswego area but we had had no luck. On January 20, 2018, we spotted a snowy sitting on a sign just out of range of our cameras. We took a break to warm up and then returned. We were disappointed that the owl was no longer sitting on the sign and thought she had left the area. Gary turned toward the bay and saw something on a block of ice. He thought it was a stick at first, but then looked through the camera’s lens and saw it was the snowy owl. It was windy and the breaking ice was really rolling giving the owl quite a ride. We started taking lots of still shots when Gary realized that a video would better capture what we were experiencing. He was right!”
