Weekend Open Thread

A happy belated eighth birthday to the kitties of reader muppet2171, who randomly assigned them the birth date of April 15 (is that because they’re taxing?). Muppet writes this is what happens “when mom can’t get to the camera fast enough,” but I bet we’d all love to know more about what was happening here.

    Good morning, Cutetropolitans all!

I didn’t mean to spend the better part of the day doing the things I’ve done (tidying, grocery shopping, laundry, reading my Cork O’Connor book, mowing the lawn, making lemonade syrup…) But all of that is more fun than grading dozens of student texts! Oh well, there’s always tomorrow!

    Have a great Saturday, y’all!

Happy Saturday! Oh my, what a look of … well I don’t know, maybe severe disapproval??? … but I don’t want to be on the receiving end of it. Better check your shoes soon!

But still very beautiful kitties Muppet2171, always loved siamese cats. And to have TWO, wow, they must never stop talking.

Busy, busy weekend planned. Celebrated a friend’s birthday last night at our favorite restaurant. Good friends, good food, and a mariachi band. It was a very fun evening.

Today, the local animal park has early opening hours for members so off we go for a little zoo safari then haircut later. After that, have to do the errands and cleaning and etc. because tomorrow we’re off to Newport Beach to the boat show. Whew, I think after all that I’m going back to work to get a break, lol.

Whatever you do this weekend, enjoy!!!

Thanks! They had a perfect pose going…he was sitting straight up and she was in her normal kitty-loaf position and the window and everything. Ran for the camera and he decided that I could pet him instead. So…

Meanwhile, their birthday was calculated to be sometime in April (they were strays from a shelter), so I figured something good ought to be on tax day. ?

Either way, they got a can of the expensive stuff and a new feather toy for their birthday. My little spoiled babies!

Also, they’re actually remarkably quiet considering their breeds (Siamese & Birman). She announces her hairballs rather loudly before she does them. Otherwise, they don’t say much. I think I probably lucked out there.

Pablo had a bad habit of posing whenever we pulled out the camera. He’d be doing something cute, or just be in a cute position, and we’d go to take a picture and he’d sit up and wait and I’d be like no, go back to what you are doing!!

I mean, it was still cute and all, but…

    Good morning, everyone!
Muppet, your fur babies are gorgeous!
It’s sunny and windy here, and I’m sending scathing thoughts towards our strata council, because we’re not allowed to dry clothes on the deck. So I will open wide the doors and windows, and set up drying racks in the living room.
No results yet for BIL, but the doctors sent him home for a week. Hospital food wasn’t agreeing with him. Wonder why.
Hubby took yesterday off. He said that I needed a personal day with him.
Financial down slide has stopped. Still horribly in debt, but it’s no longer getting worse. I might bake a treat to celebrate!
My hyacinths all bloomed this week, and they look and smell delicious. I think some of the bulbs partied before growing, because some of the colours are NOT what they were last year. Very beautiful, but very odd.
I’m off to spend the morning being busy, and then I intend to go protoplasmic this afternoon. Have a fantastic weekend, all.

Hi, everybody. Muppet, you have beautiful kitties! I’m particularly partial to Siamese because I grew up with them — well, mostly one; we got her when * was in first grade and she lived till my daughter was in first grade! So here’s hoping yours have as long and happy a life as Princess did!

I had a mostly just busy week. Work went from famine to feast; it’s always one or the other. Blergh.

Yesterday we went to the annual VA Hospital thank-you lunch for volunteers. Not held at the VA, fortunately; it was at a nearby hotel, and the food was your basic chicken but was actually quite tasty — basic Cuban style, nice spices, rice and black beans, lovely fried plaintains, and a *really* sinful chocolate mousse cake for dessert — but even better, I ended up sitting next to a pleasant man who uses a wheelchair and thus has a lovely assistance dog! Coby the yellow lab spent most of the meal under the table, but his human agreed that anything that ends up the floor is automatically his — he may be highly trained, but he’s still a lab, after all! He’s a very big boy, too, and had a wonderful time getting spoiled by everybody at the table. Especially me, I have to admit; when he came out to greet people, I was first in line by virtue of place. 😀 So that made lunch extra-fun.

Now it’s back to work, alas. i’m going to take off a few days next week just because I need the sanity break after this week! I hope everybody has a good weekend.

Good morning, all! Muppet, your furbabies are beautiful!

I’m about to dive in to this weekend’s freelance work (editing history articles for my knitting magazine). After playing hooky last weekend at Yarn Fest, I’ve got to get back on track! Fortunately, it’s a snowrainy day–after weeks of temps in the 60s or higher–so curling up with the computer isn’t so bad.

Also trying to manage oodles of house things: HELOC application to fix up the current house, mortgage app to get preapproved for a new one, contractors coming in and out with estimates. $h*t’s getting real!

MUPPET I can’t believe such beautiful siamese cats were strays.

We finally have good weather here after weeks of cold, rain and snow. Today it’s sunny and warmish (10C/50F) so I went out to run errands wearing only a hoodie! And the weather is supposed to go up to 19C/66F this week! Right now my husband is taking off the winter tires on the car, he usually takes them off at the beginning of April but with the crappy weather we had he’s glad he didn’t do it.

    Have a good weekend all.

The weather in England has been INCREDIBLE over the past few days – more like June than April. On Thursday evening I set off to walk to the theatre wearing a summer maxi dress, sandals and sunglasses!

Here’s a brief extract from my forthcoming book “Please Throw Two Carrots At Your Mother”:

“AN incident which attracted much attention occurred on Sunday morning at the Deepwater Quay, in Queenstown, in the presence of a number of American tourists. Mrs Birdie Grover, a young lady known as a professional artiste in rifle shooting, had some misunderstanding with the manager of Buffalo Billʼs great American show, and hastily left Liverpool on Saturday night for New York in the Arizona. During her passage down Channel she altered her hastily formed plan, and determined to disembark at Queenstown and return to her former avocation. On landing on Sunday morning, however, with her three rifles, the police and Customs officials apparently took her for an Irish-American Fenian disguised in womanʼs clothing. The rifles were seized, and Mrs Birdie Grover was searched, but nothing beyond the weapons was discovered. She is very indignant at being interfered with, and is doing everything possible to regain possession of her rifles.

By the way, I hate to beg (begs shamelessly) but if you’ve read and enjoyed my books I’d be most grateful if you could leave a review on Amazon!

    • AJ April 21, 2018 / 7:17 pm

Your extracts are getting funnier and funnier. I love the line about being “mistaken” by police and Customs for an Irish American Fenian in woman’s clothing. And I’d be indignant too if they took my rifles.

      • Alice Shortcake April 22, 2018 / 3:08 am

Thanks! I never dreamed when I first came across “The Era” whilst doing research for an article on Oscar Wilde that it would yield enough material for at least four books of hilarious and bizarre extracts. “Fenians in women’s clothes” seems to have been the Victorian equivalent of WWII German parachutists disguised as nuns.

    Lovely kittycats, Muppet!

I am unwinding from my first 3 days at a new job; it is mostly learning a new set of computer systems and processes on an unfamiliar system with someone else’s filing system. So a lot of “looking for the right button/folder.” The people in the office have been wonderfully nice and patient with me, and hopefully as I get used things I will feel less overwhelmed.

Household chores and potting some flowers into hanging baskets are on the agenda. There’s a break in the rain (finally), and we are looking at a sunny spell. Spring at last?

It sounds like the week has been good to everybody; I hope the trend continues! 🙂

I am such a sucker for a seal point. Have been since my first as a child.

If you could pick only one, which would it be,the dress or the chair?

    • Gigi The cat lady April 22, 2018 / 7:02 am

      The chair!!

      • murkle46 April 23, 2018 / 12:38 am

I am glad to hear the comments.
The chair is well made, and certainly would be an eye catcher and says “I have no taste whatsoever.”

    • Muppet2171 April 23, 2018 / 9:18 am

Chair! That cut of dress is SOOOO not flattering on me. As tasteful as the pattern pretends to be.

  12. fkaWaldenPond April 22, 2018 / 12:37 am

The chair! Fantastic kitsch art, it truly looks well made.
