Garden partygoers get an extra guest: A hedgehog
This just in from reader N. Fritz: “There was so much interest in our hedgehog party crasher in the Weekend Open Thread, that I thought I’d send a photo of the perp!
“My boyfriend lives between the Central Cemetery in Vienna and woodland set aside for recreation, so there are lots of critters around. He always has a family of hedgehogs during the summer (the probably hibernate in the woodpile). Hedgehogs are on the one hand very clumsy (they crash around under the shrubbery and snuffle around looking for fruit and insects). On the other hand they can be surprisingly fast on open lawns!
“This one I got close enough to pet. They are not prickly like a porcupine, more like a plastic hairbrush. And they are pretty tame!”
What a sweet, sweet little thing! How wonderful to be able to find such a creature on your lawn and be able to pet it!
How wonderful! Kisses from New York City to your hedgie neighbor/tenant.
I only had one encounter with a hedgehog and that was many many years ago when I visited England. Your little friend looks a lot darker than the one that walked accos my foot all those years ago but he is just as cute!
My favourite animal!❤❤❤
Hedgi even has its own paparazzo in the bushes!
awwww, what a cute little bundle o’ bristles! I’m glad to hear they’re softish – I have wondered……
I really really wanna pet a hedgie now.
Hedgie or wombat?
My boss’s boss was at the office today (he’s usually in the NYC office) and he came over to my desk to talk about something and stopped to read June’s wombat poop page on the calendar. (He was in Australia a few years ago and said wombats are kinda disgusting. But he didn’t see any poop cubes.)
Wombats? DISGUSTING????? *Clutches pearls, faints*
I know, right? What a jerk! (Not really)
