Happy weekend! This is the time of year when farmer’s markets overflow with fresh greens and herbs — but you have to show up early to get the good stuff. Whatever your weekend plans, stop by and share with your fellow Cutetropolitans.
A fresh picked pic from Sharon H.
Yep! The early kitty catches the ‘nip!!
Good morning everybody!
Yesterday, after I heard the sad news about the tragic death of Anthony Bourdain of which I was a big fan, I had to get out of the house. So I went walking the downtown festivities for the Grand Prix race just to be around people, I didn’t want to actually talk to anybody, I just wanted to be around people and get out of my head.
If you need help, please reach out for help and know that there is no shame for it. I’ve been there and can assure you that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
On a cheerier note, I’m leaving in a few minutes to meet friends for breakfast and then we are going to the BeerFest (Mondial de la bière).
I hope everyone has a good weekend.
Gigi – I’m glad you recognized your need for some interaction and went to the festival. Been there too and like you said, sometimes it’s not necessary to talk to anyone but it’s just enough to be with people and distract your brain for a little while. It’s so sad about both Anthony and Kate Spade. Brilliant people and yet sometimes we know so little about people in the public eye. They look like they have everything but they may be struggling with things too.
Big plans for the weekend – farmers market, pottery sale and neighborhood block party today then boat show tomorrow. Hubby is entering the chili cook-off tonight so I’m leaving him home to cook while I do walk abouts with my friend and her kids.
I wonder if my market will have some catnip for sale??? If so, maybe I’ll get two.
Happy weekend everyone!
I know what you mean. I started going to my friend’s game nights shortly after Robin Williams died. I was seeing/reading so many news stories and blog posts and whatnot about suicide and depression and it really started to get to me. I went to game night to get out of the house. With two celebrity suicides in the past week I’ve avoided a lot of that news coverage because I realize it is bad for my mental state.
Thanks, Gigi, for the wise words. Have a great time at the beer fest!
Happy Caturday, everyone. This is a special day. I give you:
the rare Stripes blep (as in, my mom says she’s never seen him do it before; she sent me this earlier in the week):
Also this.
??
Hello, all! This weekend I am gathering energy to get through graduation exams. I have 22 students taking the English “speaking” option. 17 of them are on Thursday, the rest on Friday morning. I find this process verging on the inhumane because for virtually 36 hours I will be “on”. And after all is said and done, we have to stick around for photos and the graduation ceremony. Wish me (and my students) luck!!!
Good luck!!
Very best wishes for the very best of luck—to you, and to your students. Yikes! What a schedule.
Good luck, Fritz! And to all of you suffering from various states of mental anguish brought about by the sad news of the week or from dealing with family issues (thinking of you, especially, Duckie and Ricky’s Mom) or anything else weighing on your minds.
I’m late to the game today – been away from the computer for two days and am dreading having to slog through everything just to find the fun stuff. At least I found the Weekend Open Thread.
We haven’t heard from Jan and Lily for so long!
Yup. Big Bourdain fan. So unnecessary. But maybe he wanted to go out on a perfect day and not struggle anymore. I worry for his daughter.
On a happy note: I made it to art class. This was a very poignant moment for me. It took 40 years to finally find a way for me to get back to what I was meant to do. I’m focusing on the moment not all the moments lost.
Basically it is two days of two hour studio time with instruction as needed. Very welcoming setup. I am enjoying picking up a paint brush and working at an easel for the first time in my life. Very different from drawing. More motion. Working in oils so I’m having fun blending. I will share the results. Content entirely separate from my drawings, thank goodness.
Have a good weekend all, and never give up. I finally have everything I ever wanted.
That’s wonderful Faye! I’m happy for you.
Good on you, Faye! You are an inspiration!
Yay, Faye!!!!!
Thank you all. Will update.
Wonderful Faye! Enjoy to the fullest.
I will!
Just released home from the cancer center, Depends are the garb of choice at the
moment. Yikes. Never thought it would come to this. Still a lot of pain. Radiation can really do a number on one. Mine was intense, and damaged nerves. Not nice. I hope
I will be ableto get out to farmer’s markets and the like soon. I lost all of May, which had very good weather here in SE Pennsylvania. We are having Chinese for lunch, which
will be a nice change from hospital food. Onward and upward!!!!!!!
Aw, sorry to hear that, Phred’s mom! But you are a trooper, and as unpleasant as your current situation may be, you are still with us, providing hope and inspiration!! Hugs!
Your determination in the face of what I think would be overwhelming to me is inspirational. I hope your recovery is swift.
Ricky and I send healing vibes and a big shout-out to you for courage!
Always good to get home. Follow instructions and be kind to yourself Phred’s Mom.
Rosie Cat is on my lap right now, sending purrs and good vibes to you.
Bless your heart, Phred’s Mom! Keep on keeping’ on – and letting us know how you are.
So sad about Anthony Bourdain. What in the world were his demons?
I have been without a tv for the past 12 years. It seems I must acquaint myself with Anthony Bourdain, whose name I know but I had no idea he was such a humanist. Going to try to introduce his work to my students on Monday!!!
His shows were about so much more than food.
He was so fascinated by different cultures and loved to talk with ordinary folks: street vendors, small restaurant owners and suppliers, farmers. And he was willing to try ANYTHING. He inspired me and I hope to visit some of the places he showed us.
I’m so happy to hear that you’re all taking care of yourselves in the face of sad news. Phred’s Mom, sending you good vibes and purrs as you go through your treatment.
This weekend, I don’t have any freelance work! Hurrah! Will try to start on some home repairs that have been sitting. House stuff is positive for selling the current place but really discouraging for buying a new one. It *will* all work out–I just have to be patient. My self-care will involve cooking for myself, maybe some baking for the office, and general loafing. Sadly, it’s wickedly hot here this weekend, so maybe no baking!
Hugs to you all.
DebG, don’t know if you follow Foodgawker, but here’s a link to their “no-bake” recipes. Stay cool!! https://foodgawker.com/?s=No+bake
Oooh, thanks for that!
The heat has got me using my Instant Pot, which doesn’t heat up my kitchen and provides results really quickly. Tonight, a vegan mushroom masala!
Ugghh, did anyone down in the States just hear a woman shriek???!!! That was me. A silverfish was on my keyboard!!! I understand an occasional silverfish on the floor in the bathroom or by the doors BUT NOT ON MY CLEAN HIGH UP TABLE LET ALONE ON MY KEYBOARD. And it was big. Ugghh.
Hang in there Phred’s Mom, your strength is amazing and mmmm chinese. Enjoy!
And I as well, am having a hard time re Anthony Bourdain.
Silverfish are my worst. arrrrggghh!!, They are so quick and look so
horrid. No, wait, “thousand-leggers” are the absolute most hideous and they are
so hairy-looking. Anyone remember “the Honeymooners” episode where
Ralph mistook a false eyelash for one? Showing my advanced age.
Ha! I totally agree that centipedes ARE. THE. WORST. When I first noticed the legs and twitching thing on the keyboard I automatically thought ‘thousand-legger’ but was slightly relieved to see it was silverfish– despite my shriek.
Hey, so Phred’s Mom, in honour of your recovery, I picked up some fancy-schmancy springrolls today. I agree Chinese wayyyy better than hospital food.
Don’t now much about silverfish except what they look like and they seem to like paper, but thousand leggers are real beneficials, so don’t hurt them! From time to time I have to catch one in some sort of container to rescue it from my bathtub – I’ve come to like them quite a bit.
Cool rainy Saturday here in the PacNW; spent it gardening at my mom’s house. She lives in the Olympic rain shadow, so we didn’t get too wet thankfully! We went over to the coast at Kalaloch for a few days a couple weeks ago and I’m still going through pictures (I’ll share if anyone’s interested).
Speaking of pictures, here HRH Lily quality testing the box that my new walking shoes came it. Can’t be too careful about boxes!
Lily is a true beauty.
It’s true. She really is beautiful.
