Links: A Pig in the Pokey

And finally: Flamboyant Flamingo Chicks!

Did you know a flock of flamingos is sometimes called a flamboyance? The National Zoo recently welcomed some flamboyant new chicks. (via Andrew Y.)

Why did you not go with ‘Ham on the lamb’?

Ralph and Miss Vanjie are a lovely little family.

      They look soooo cute together.

    • Debg June 29, 2018 / 7:36 pm

I’m so happy for the whole family.

I think someone put that flamingo baby’s legs on backwards…

    • Faye June 29, 2018 / 11:16 am

There’s a Fatts Waller Jazz song, You’re Feets Too Big. Flamingo anthem evidently.

Great links. Kinda ironic some would say about a pig in a police cruiser and those little piggies on parade, so sweet. The matchingkins on the kitten and dog, ded just ded. And I agree the baby flamingos look like they haven’t been put together correctly, the way they sit looks very odd.

Update on BIL, made it through surgery ok. Now it’s wait and see. It looks like he’ll be in hospital for about 5-6 days then home. Going to be a long recovery and I’m hoping he sees this as a wake up call and starts taking better care of himself. I’m even going to make some changes in diet for me and hubby. It’s a little scary when someone your age goes through something like that.

      Good news

Thinking good thoughts for you all.

Note to joke about lifestyle changes but better late than Late.

I am glad to hear your good news, and send best wishes for your BIL’s full and not-too-terribly-long recovery.

I said goodbye to my Penny for the last time yesterday. I know it was for the best, the vet agreed but I’m having trouble accepting it. My husband works until 7h30 tonight and staying home alone is not a good idea so maybe because I keep thinking about her and I start crying so maybe I’ll go out and catch a movie, something stupid and brainless like Jurassic Park.

AJ, I’m glad you BIL’s surgery when well.

    • dubravkamcvmd June 29, 2018 / 10:20 am

I’m so sorry. It went so quickly! It must be harder. I’m guessing the diagnosis made you feel like you had some time. Poor little beautiful Penny. But she had a wonderful life with you filled with love. I hope you can concentrate on that, to some extent at least.

    • allein ? June 29, 2018 / 10:20 am

      I’m sorry, Gigi. ?

    • fkaWaldenPond June 29, 2018 / 10:22 am

Ahhhh Gigi, I am so sorry. Don’t go see Jurassic Park as apparently there is a really sad, teary scene with a dinosaur– or– go see it and use it as an excuse to cry. I dunno- I am so sorry. A long term client of mine also had to put his 20 year old cat named Murphy asleep yesterday and he is so heartbroken.
      We’re here. *hugs*

Awww, Gigi so sorry about Penny. And yes, usually the first few days it’s best to keep yourself occupied with something brainless. I know it sounds cold but I always found it helped if I immediately cleared out the house of all toys, bedding, etc, that way less chance of seeing stuff that reminded me of my furbaby which in turn would start the waterworks. It may not seem like it now but things will get better and the happy memories will take precedence over how things were in the last few months. Sending long distance airmail hugs.

Thanks for the tip about the movie FKAWALDENPOND, not sure I’ll go out after all because they say the temperature will go up to 34C (93.2F) today and the subway is not air conditioned so it will be like an oven and I’m really not good with heat.

I can’t get rid of toys and stuff AJ because I have 4 other cats which is a great help and I know I’ll live to regret it but I’m spoiling them right now, giving them fancy can food and “candy” for the asking.

      • Faye June 29, 2018 / 11:23 am

So sorry Gigi. I know that pain. Hug and spoil your others all you want.

    • Kar June 29, 2018 / 11:00 am

      Geez, that’s awful.

You know that you did the right thing but understand that you’re hurting. I”m so sorry for your loss

    • Duckie ? June 29, 2018 / 11:33 am

Gigi, sending you a huge feathered hug.

    • Ricky's Mom June 29, 2018 / 1:15 pm

Gigi, I’m so very, very sorry about Penny. You know I understand, as I’m sure everyone here does, how doing things for the best can be so painful and hard to accept. Life is definitely not fair.

If you want a non-taxing movie, my recommendation would be something like Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure. It doesn’t require a lot of concentration, but at the same time it’s funny and sweet. Or maybe an old musical. I watched a LOT of those last week.

You go right ahead and spoil your other kitties as much as you want. They are there to be loved. I hope they give you some cuddles.

    • Amyliz June 29, 2018 / 1:59 pm

Gigi, I am so sorry about Penny; she was well-loved and yes, you did the best thing for her, but oh, it hurts. Be kind to yourself.

    • AB June 29, 2018 / 2:36 pm

So sorry to hear that! She was a beautiful kitty.

    • debg June 29, 2018 / 3:09 pm

Gigi, so sorry. You are such a good mom, to do what she needed even though it breaks your heart. You and hubs take care of yourselves this weekend.

    • Luv Bunny June 29, 2018 / 7:46 pm

Gigi, sorry to hear about your Penny, it’s another sad time for another pet lover. Hope your other cats can help you through your sad times. They will help keep you busy, taking care of them. Do they seem to know something has happened to their fellow cat mate?

  6. Kar June 29, 2018 / 9:44 am

    A flamboyance? Love that.

    • fkaWaldenPond June 29, 2018 / 5:57 pm

I do too!! I wonder if flamingos get ‘growing pains’ in their legs.

  7. Kar June 29, 2018 / 10:59 am

    .

  8. Faye June 29, 2018 / 11:25 am

I could watch the Peeg Parade all day.

  9. Murray C. June 29, 2018 / 9:03 pm

Squeak softly and carry a big carrot stick.

And, GiGi, I am so sorry bout your losing your dear puss. And AJ, I hope BIL does well and follows through on his taking better care of himself.
