The Heroes of Sleepy Burrows

Many of the wombat videos featured on this site come from Sleepy Burrows Wombat Sanctuary, a humble shelter that rescues orphaned wombats, raises them, and prepares them for return to the wild. In this short documentary, sent in by reader Holly H., The Dodo gets to know the couple who give their time and their love to these adorable creatures.

Nakey wombats are less upsetting than the poor goggie with the swollen face.

People like these restore my faith in humanity, at least until the next news broadcast.

I want to marry Donna and Phil. Actually, I just want to go work with them. So many sweet, funny, adorable moments in that video, I can’t pick a fave.

A house run by wombats sounds kind of perfect to me. Of course, I live in a household run by cats–maybe it’s not that different?

I have visions of Deb G massaging hemp oil into her kitties’ tummies.

I’d do it if they’d let me, Duckie! They generally love belly rubs.

Please, Donna and Phil, give me the details of what exactly “wombat things” include — I’m dying to know.

I love these two and their whole wombat brood! I love that when they turn/fall over on their back, their feet stick straight up like those poor fainting goats.

“Wombat things”– inquiring minds want to know!?

My heart just burst when i first saw this! ? At first i didnt even realize the tiny pink thing was a wombat! Then i watched it, heart burst, and immediatly sent it to NTMTOM! This is the reason id visit Australia! (Well, for the fruit bats too!) I cant believe they are in care so long before being released into the wild. Can you imagine being one of the kids in that house!? “I was raised with wombats”–or some such title–written by one of the kids, maybe? I want to go help!!
