Beavers Gotta Beave

Watch rescued beaver build a dam from stuffed toys!

Justin Beaver is a seven-month-old beaver rescued by Second Chances Wildlife Center in Louisville, Kentucky. Even though the poor little orphan may be on a wood floor instead of a river, he still has the urge to dam it, dammit, and he’ll pile up stuffed toys and other household items to get the job done.

    Justin Beaver!! 😀 😀

I would try for a Bieber song/beaver pun but, well, I don’t know any Bieber songs and I’d like to keep it that way.

      Amen!

I find this truly heartbreaking. Watching the little thing trying to tear the calendar with its teeth so that he could build with it. He was trying but he looked lost, like it just wasn’t working the way it was supposed to. Of course he didn’t have parents to show him how to really do it, just the desire to build a dam.

I felt a little that way, too, until I checked the re-hab’s FB page where there is another video. He is unable to be sent back to the wild and seems well taken care of. They are currently fundraising to build him a very nice outdoor enclosure with his very own pond.

Thanks for checking. It wasn’t that I thought he was abused. His caretaker clearly loved him. It was just sad to see him lost and trying to be a beaver. It’s just great that he’ll have a pond.

At least they’ll be prepared if the refrigerator/freezer starts leaking.

        Took me a minute. Hahahahaha.

Poor little guy. I’d send him my old magazines and he can build a water park out of those.

BTW, those are A LOT of toys, someone’s a little pampered.

It is! He looks a lot less lost in the other videos and seems to be a cute little handful. As much as they will miss him in the house, they are eager to have him be in a more natural setting. He is in training to be an animal ambassador.

I wonder if he slaps his tail?!

For all of you concerned about this beaver living in a house, here’s the original video of him. He’s a rescue as something happened to the rest of his family. I’m sure when he gets big enough he’ll be released back into the wild. But for right now as a baby he’s leading a good loving life. I read the comments on this video and people were so fast to jump to conclusions that I had to look this up elsewhere hence the link here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DggHeuhpFvg

Thank you for finding this. I grasped from the video in the post that his human loved him but this made me feel much better about his life prospects, plus HOW ADORABLE IS HE! Those sounds!

Oh, thanks so much for posting this video – what a sweet little character and he SO needs to have his own space. I thought rabbits were hard on baseboards.

Not surprised he has damaged her house, beavers’ teeth grow their entire lives.
They need to chew on wood to wear them down. He definitely is not suited for indoor living.

Somebody get that baby some Lincoln Logs!

    • Smartypants August 2, 2018 / 6:35 pm

Oh, I remember Lincoln Logs! Those and Tinkertoys – they were the best.

Coincidentally enough, on my way home I was listening to this Inquiring Minds podcast episode, The Surprising, Secret Life of Beavers.

Justin Beaver is really, really cute. I want to cuddle his soft fur and see what his tail feels like.

A rescued young beaver at our wildlife sanctuary would pile up stuff at one side of his pen, including interns or volunteers. And then if you headed for the gate after a while, he’d chase after you going, “Ehn! Ehn! My tree is escaping!”

They stay with their parents for two years. They’ve got to be learning a lot.
