Welcome to the weekend, Cutetropolitans! Miss Penny returns to greet us, as her human muppet2171 reveals her unusual talent: “She’s very good at not looking at me… even when she is. She also excels at ignoring me completely.”

So…she’s a typical cat?
Happy Caturday. Today I do laundry and other fun stuff; tomorrow I go to a 6 -year-old’s birthday party. It’s supposed to be thunderstormy both days.
My cat is the same way. I’m convinced the reason she sleeps so much is that she expends so much mental energy pretending it’s pure coincidence that she’s in the same room with me at all times.
Okay, it’s rained a bit but the thunderstorminess has thus far been disappointingly lacking.
I never really understood the phrase ‘she looked straight through me’ until I had cats. Penny is especially good at it.
Oooh, how pretty Miss Penny. I don’t care if you look at me, just let me gaze adoringly at you all morning. I’ve always loved Siamese cats, keep promising myself that I’ll get a pair one day. But that was prior to my current “NO PETS” attitude, love them but right now just can’t deal with their upkeep. No matter, I have enough doggies and kitties in the neighborhood to oohh and ahhh over. The latest find is a Newfoundland puppy named Beauregard. 11 months and huge! But their fur is oh soo soft. I’ll really feel for him with all the heat we’ve been having – if I’m uncomfortable, poor baby must be miserable.
Not too much going on here today besides trying to stay cool. I have a training session at the local museum I volunteer at going over their latest exhibit. I think they call it sensitivity training as it’s an exhibit on the history of LGBT in San Diego. Not being sarcastic but how far society has come in only about 30 years – from the hysteria surrounding AIDS to (mostly) full acceptance. Other than that just relaxing and running errands.
Oh, for those that asked and maybe didn’t see my update under last week’s Open Thread, Seattle was fantastic! Didn’t even scratch the surface this weekend. I think we may need to come back for a full week of exploring the place. Loved the tours – Boeing was really interesting, got to see the planes in the assembly area plus they have a little exhibition/museum. We took the “saucy” Underground tour and it was all about – whispers softly – prostitution. Yes, yes, lots of pearl clutching going on right now, lol. But we learned lots of interesting and juicy tidbits such as UPS was originally founded to help “ahem” certain ladies (of the night) get deliveries of things they needed as they were usually kinda busy. I think it might have helped to take the original tour first to get some background since that wasn’t covered in depth in my tour.
We didn’t do the actual airshow, I figured it would be way too crowded so we went to the Museum of Flight where they had the Jet Blast Bash. The museum is right next to Boeing Field and that’s the field the Blue Angels take off from for the airshow. Pretty exciting to see them take off in formation not too far from where we were seated. And of course got to see all the exhibits in the museum. If you’re into planes, gotta to go there, it’s an amazing place – http://www.museumofflight.org/
Only small downside was historic downtown Seattle is a little sleazy, reminded me a little of downtown NYC before South Street Seaport was developed. Plus right now they’re doing construction and some of the waterfront is blocked off so no pretty bay views from most of the area. Other than that, had a relaxing time.
Thanks for the valuable travel report, AJ! I’m glad you saved something for the next time you visit Seattle!!
Penny is gorgeous and she can look-not-look at me any time she wants!
Its been pretty hot and uncomfortable here, but today is supposed to be cooler with thunderstorms thankfully. The air quality has been horrible too; there’s at least one good sized forest fire pouring smoke into the air. The sunrises and sunsets for the last few days have been Ug. Ly. So here’s hoping for a good gully-washer! ?
As long as Penny lets us all look at her majesty we’re good.
So it is either heat index 100F or downpours with thunder and lightning. I bought a stroller for Millie so we can both walk the neighborhood safely. Haven’t used it once. Waiting and waiting for heat to break.
I cooked enough food yesterday for the whole weekend. Did all the dishes. Folded all the laundry. Cleaned my ac filter. Paid all the bills. So! Drawing ALL day.
Way to make the most of it, Faye!!!
Cat and hedgehog cuddling!?! Does anyone have an explanation for this?
The easy way to brush your cat?
Nope.
(Someone posted it in a comment thread on a blog post I was reading and I promptly ran to google to find a link to post here.)
Welcome back, Penny! We bask in your glory, beautiful girl!
Sounds like everybody is dealing with a lot of heat. We’re looking at low 90s these days, which I can just barely handle.
I’ve got to get busy again. My HELOC application will require an appraisal, which means pictures of every room, which means I *gotta* clean the house and get some of these small projects done. Sometimes cleaning and going through stuff actually helps my stress levels. Or at least that’s what I keep telling myself!
Hugs to you all. If you’re worried or grieving, I’m sending good vibes and kitty purrs. If you’re celebrating or just enjoying life, I’m cheering you on.
Any word from Gigi lately?
It’s 78 here in mostly-cloudy NJ. And for some reason weather.com keeps giving me the weather in Gandziras, Latvia, where it is 67 and raining. In case anyone was wondering.
I was just wondering. Thanks for the update.
lol
Apparently one day I mistyped my zip code or something and it came back with Latvia. That was months and months ago and it still remembers that I “searched” for Latvia.
I haven’t seen any posts Debg. Hopefully, she is lurking.
I felt a bit under the weather last week – the actual weather didn’t help – and spent a couple of days in bed. To while away the time I scoured Netflix for some undemanding entertainment, and came across what I can only describe as a treasure-trove of surreal British humour – ‘Horrible Histories’! Yes, it’s a kid’s show but can also be enjoyed by adults. The songs are brilliant – the first four King Georges forming a boy band, Vikings singing a rock anthem, Shakespeare as a smooth lounge singer, an Inca ruler doing a jaunty dance number whilst playing a flute made of a human arm bone…the list is endless. Warmly recommended for all Monty Python/Blackadder fans.
Oh, Alice, that sounds GREAT – must check into that.
Love the pretty puss – I guess it’s a case where a cat can look at a king but at no-one else.
This week our internet went out AGAIN! No access to phone (land line), tv, or internet for two full days. Exact same thing happened last week. Blamed on squirrel chewage. Just catching up on emails is such a chore. But the gang here always provides respite.
Rain was promised but the sun is out. Sigh. I have to go out into the heat (tho’ less than it’s been) and do some watering and pruning and digging weeds.
Hubby is trying to help me learn how to pay bills online. What a trial. It seems every time I make a password then try to access an account my password isn’t accepted. Today, after trying to get into my account and being told that the password was incorrect, I got a temp one from the bank but they wouldn’t let me change the password because the OLD ONE wasn’t in the system – THAT’S WHY I NEED TO CHANGE MY PASSWORD!!!! Zcheesh. Fit to be tied, I believe the expression is.?
Been there, swore at that.
@muppet2171: of course she’s not looking at you in that second pic – it’s you who is looking at her, rudely blocking her serene (not looking at you) field of vision.
Actually, her ‘not looking at me field of vision’ was still me because she was facing my office chair and I was busy goofing off with the camera and pretending to work.
She is majestic and imposing without even trying.
Which is impressive for such a small cat…she more or less stopped growing at about 8 months.

Too funny. Ok, for those inquiring minds who must know – here’s the link to the full story:

Plus it must be the week for FL criminals and animals, here’s another where animals gave the assist to the cops:

These are the kinds of stories my local radio station does on their “No-Sweat News” segment; they do three stories each morning Mon-Thurs, and then on Friday they do the No Sweat News quiz, where they read three stories from the week plus one they made up and a caller can win a prize (usually tickets to a concert or other event) for identifying the fake story.
The stories start with “Dateline [wherever]” and when [wherever] is Florida, it’s followed by “Capital of the No-Sweat News…”
Seriously bad last two days with family health issues. DebG, thanks for the hugs.
Penny, you are a gorgeous bundle of fur. I really wish I could cuddle you right now.
oh, Duckie, I am so sorry to hear that. It seems like you can’t catch a break. virtual hugs from me and Kittyhawke, and lots of healing energy and prayers headed your way. Hang in there. <3 Maia
I’m sorry. So much stress, which only makes things worse. I hope you know calming exercises. I always forget the deep breathing when it’s needed because I’m too stressed to think.
You and your family have really had it, haven’t you, Duckie. I’m so sorry, it must feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders. Stay strong and know we’re rooting for you.
Have we heard from Patty lately? I’ve missed some posts and only skimmed others but I don’t recall seeing her name of late.
Pretty sure I saw her name once or twice this week…
