In the dispute between A. Fish vs. N. Otherfish, plaintiff alleges that defendant dumped debris in his front yard. Defendant maintains that plaintiff started it, citing the case of Rubber vs. Glue.
At least they didn’t resort to (wait for it) fishticuffs, Arne.
Get off my lawn!
When the fight is over, c’est finny.
A quick websearch tells me these are lawnmower blennies, and (probably?) both female. Cutetropolis is educational!
“Rubber vs Glue” *snerk*
“Lawnmower” blennies? I guess my comment was more apropos than I thought…
Tres punny, Ricky’s Mom!??
Ok, this is pretty amazing– equal parts ‘cracking up’ and ‘now I have seen everything’ feeling. Why are they doing this? N. Otherfish really seems to get a shocked and the “Welll I oughta’!” expression on its face. π
‘k, I had to google and see if I could find out what was going on, here. Apparently, lawnmower blennies are algae eaters and will eat it off the rocks and whatnot, and will dig and spit sand. Nothing about fighting. But I did find this on a saltwater fish site (for aquarium-keepers), which amused me: “Because the the Lawnmower Blenny is a prolific jumper, it is highly advised to have a tightly sealed lid on your tank to prevent escape.”
My understanding is it’s basically a feedback loop in their wee fish brains. Fish that dig generally don’t like their holes being filled in. They also tend to dump the sand outward from where they’re digging. So when you get two fish digging holes too close together they’ll naturally spit the sand from the side facing their neighbor *toward* their neighbor, who promptly re-digs that spot. I have no idea how long this goes on before they give up.
This, disappointingly, makes sense. I thought they were having a fight, and becoming more and more outraged by the behavior of the other fish. The expression of the fish on the right in particular was hilarious.
Hmmmm, that doesn’t sound like escape – well, in the sense that suicide is escape.
I haven’t seen this episode of Spongebob O_O
j/k XD
The one-act play by Edward Albacore: “I Cough Dirt In Your General Direction: An Allegory of Social Media”.
*standing ovation*
If Twitter had a masthead….
What’s this, two ninety pound weaklings throwing sand in each other’s eyes? “I’m gonna blow you outta the water!”
I (mouth) fart in your general direction!
?
I donβt know how the people taking the video resisted voicing each fish as they recorded…
It seems to me the blennies are definitely having a turf war, their sand-spitting actions look deliberate and very well directed, increasingly better aimed by each combatant so as to hit the other in the eyes… “Here, take that, you spawn of an ill-mannered bottom feeder!”
I agree with you Claraluz, it looks pretty deliberate– and the added outrage makes it even better. π
