Wakey-wakey, Cutetropolitans! I hope you spend the weekend as happy as this blissed-out kitty sent in by James D.: “Here’s a photo of my parents’ kitteh, Louis, going full belly-up while I’d been scratching his cheeks”

I don’t think I have ever been as blissed out as handsome Louis here!
No big plans for the weekend. I have been in a baking mood lately, which happens when the weather turns chilly, so I think I’ll make some cookies to take to work on Monday. (Living alone, I don’t need the temptation of having cookies all to myself!)
Amyliz, I’ve been doing the same thing! My coworkers are happy to eat my experiments with aquafaba and vegan baking. We actually did a taste test this week: traditional snickerdoodles vs. a batch made with aquafaba.
DebG, I’d love to hear how your vegan cookies turned out!
They were utterly fantastic. I highly recommend a cookbook called Baking Magic for the aquafaba recipes (including savory stuff as well as sweets). I’m still getting used to baking at high altitude–the trick is not to overbake snickerdoodles. My coworkers loved both kinds of cookies, though I’d overbaked the traditional version and they were crunchy instead of mushy.
What a blissed out kitty and such a pretty color. I just want to dive into that belly fluff, pointy bits be damned.
Busy, busy weekend ahead. Hockey last night (we won!) and tonight. Since we joined the zoo at a certain level, we are going to a special thank you breakfast this morning and have animal encounters. Not sure who they’ll let us meet but should be fun. Then more Halloween decoration shopping. Tomorrow is elimination round 2 of the retirement communities we’re looking at for our friend. His brother is going to take a look and say yeah or nay before we bring our friend to look at the potential community. And somewhere in between all this, gotta do our regular errands and cleaning.
Happy weekend everyone!
“Please Throw Two Carrots at Your Mother” should be on sale by the end of next week, and I’m just putting the finishing touches to the fifth and last book in the series, “He Combed His Hair With Red Hot Iron” (or possibly “Gigantic Chickens With Fireworks” – I haven’t made my mind up yet).
Not a lot on this weekend, but I’ll be spending Monday and Tuesday in Stratford-upon-Avon to see “Troilus and Cressida” and “Tamburlaine”.
Without knowing anything about the book, I vote for “Gigantic Chickens With Fireworks.”
Agree!
Yes, you need something memorable to follow “please throw two carrots at your mother”!
That’s a good point. I finally went with “Gigantic Chickens with Fireworks in their Mouths”, as “Gigantic Chickens with Fireworks” sounded too much like a recipe…
My copy of “A Complete Somersault…” is at the Post Office – I’m picking it up tomorrow. Looking forward to it!
Don’t really know how “blissed out” I am, but I am focused on getting lots of work (i.e. grading) done this weekend. So far, so good. My carrot at the end of the stick is an Al di Meola concert on Thursday and a well-deserved 10 day “fall break” when I hope I’ll get to do stuff for *me*!
Happy Caturday, everybody!
Good morning. Pretty kitty, goes nicely with the colors in the room.
Yes, they go well together! My parents are getting a new front door for their house. House is kitty colored. I suggested teal (as in this photo) but they’ve settled on carmine red. ?
I’m jealous that this gorgeous kitty has such a decadent home to live in.
This week was somewhat better than last. No dentist appointment, for starters.
In twelve days I will be off the prednisone completely. Then I can stop a couple of the other prescriptions, and start to lose the moon face and stupid extra weight I see seem to have acquired.
Voting today for city officials. Yawn.
Weather change next week. Time to get out my flannel duck quilt. Lots of sewing to do next week, as well. Making sweat suits for us to lol around in (misspelling intended).
Have a great weekend, everyone.
Good news Duckie.
Veeeeery relaxed kitty!
Aweful ten days for me. Had to deal with non life threatening health problem that necessitated an ambulance ride to a 7 hour ER horror experience. Exorbitant wait time, messy procedure, indifferent nursing, horrendous discharge experiences. But outcome of medical situation resolved. Took me 8 stressful days to appoach norms.
Anywho… all else good. Working on second oil painting until could not attend class. Back Tuesday night.
Found a fantastic Vet and Dog Spa/Daycare combo five minutes from my house. Millie and I getting a tour and nail clipping Monday night!
Cooked a huge batch of vegetable soup to eat/freeze. Planning on making Friday soup cooking day. Eat/Freeze to have soup on hand all the time. Next: Leek + Potato, Mushroom + Barley, White Bean + Ham, Italian Wedding with Turkey meatballs, Chicken Soup, Beef + Escarole.
Any suggestions? Will update as I cook.
Oh my, Faye, sorry you had to go through that experience, but happy to know it’s been resolved and you’re pushing forward. Soup sounds like just the ticket! I found a fabulous recipe just the other week: https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/asian-long-noodle-soup/
And this new spa is for both pets and their human companions, is that right? Someone has found a niche!!!
Hahahahaha. Humans not included. I wish. Vet, spa, play for Millie. I’m just the chauffeur and money machine.
Very glad you had a good outcome. I empathize with Your ER experience I went to NYU Langone ER yesterday because my heart was acting up. Turns out it’s very likely just a symptom of a minor thyroid problem and can be easily dealt with by medication. The ER however was jammed and the wait for everything was endless. I got an earful from the nurse on why things were so bad – bottom line it’s all about money nowadays in health care.
She confided after I told her my sister is a physician’s assistant at a hospital on Long Island. I am therefore very curious which hospital you went to. My sister has actually worked at two hospitals on Long Island.
I went to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside. But I have knowledge of all the other Long Island hospitals.
I love South Nassau and usually very concerned and explanatory. I even presented with the same condition two years ago. I think it was this one nurse and her aide.
Faye, I suggest you have us all over for taste tests.
Fine with me! Faye’s Friday Soup Night. Bring crusty bread and cheese and we’re all set.
Can I get a ride with someone? I’ll pay for gas…
Faye, I am so sorry to hear you had to endure that awful experience but glad you are ok.
Last weekend I made some really delicious minestrone soup in the crockpot. Look it up at Delish.com under vegetarian recipes for the crockpot. I find that cooking can be very satisfying and soothing (as long as it turns out good)!
Hot and sour soup. I make a vegetarian version that always makes me very happy.
Happy caturday to everybody, including lovely long Louis! He’s taking a well-deserved nap, I hope!
Congrats to those celebrating and sympathy to those grading and recovering from health issues.
I’m about to put the first coat of joint compound on my bathroom walls! While I still haven’t removed the area around the shower, enough new drywall is up to allow for mudding, priming, and then installation of the vanity and medicine chest. I’ll choose paint and tile colors once I’ve installed the new brighter lights. My new toilet went in on Monday and it’s gorgeous. (Never thought I would love a toilet so much.)
Last weekend, we got 7 inches of snow in one night. This weekend, it’s in the 60s. I’ll never understand Colorado weather.
Debg I follow Our Old House on FB. I will never own a home but my grandparents had a huge old Victorian with a two story turret etc. I lived and visited there until I was 16 years old. It was torn down… I still miss that house. Your house might not be old but I’ve seen all that you described on that page.
Am I right that we haven’t heard from Ricky’s Mom in a while? Hope everything’s OK.
Hi, Everyone – so much activity! Debg, I never cease to be amazed at what you undertake – I’m nervous about re-caulking my bathtub. Faye, I’m glad you’re over and through whatever you were dealing with, Duckie, glad you can reduce your meds. Hockey games, concerts, author-ing – Oh, My!
And what a delicious puss cat – that belly is for drowning in.
My brother and his wife were here from California for a visit from Monday until earlier today and I’m exhausted. (and I have over 2.000 unread emails) It was a bit of a surprise visit, their having told me a couple of weeks ago that they were coming. I love both my bro and my SIL, so the work that their visit necessitated was all to the good, The sad part is my brother has some sort of – disorder? – don’t know, he’s been tested, poked, prodded, and scanned and nothing is ever found to account for his situation. His problem is he cannot eat. He’s a big guy and he’s struggling to keep his weight at 160, he looks like he’s been in an interment camp he’s so skinny and bony. He struggles to eat a half piece of toast. My poor SIL, it’s the focus of her life to get food into him. I feel like I’m watching someone die by slow degrees, starving in front of your eyes. So tonight things are back to normal, they’re off on the rest of their journey. Now I can get back to painting things for my upcoming craft show in early Dec. I look forward to getting back to my table. But he’ll be on my mind, I can tell you.
I’m so sorry about your brother. That must be so painfully worrisome.
