She’s so floofy! Line forms behind me!

    (And I don’t even care if it’s a trap!)

    • Jan B. December 8, 2018 / 9:39 am

Lily helps prepare the twinkle lights…

      • N. Fritz December 8, 2018 / 9:42 am

What an awesomely festive picture, Jan!

      • Faye December 8, 2018 / 10:12 am

Oh my goodness! Wonderful Lily pic.

      • debg December 8, 2018 / 1:13 pm

She’s very helpful, Jan! Give her a kiss from me.

So, will the claws of doom come out if you try to pet that Elly Belly?

It’s cold outside today. 15 degrees Fahrenheit (-9C) when I woke up and it’s only up to 21 degrees now. At least we have some sunshine today.

On to doing some more interior painting touch ups around some new windows and other spots. Plus plenty of birdwatching with all the feeders outside. The Tufted Titmice already ate the handful of peanuts in the shell I put out this morning. Cute to watch as they carry them off in their tiny bills. How do they manage that huge peanut?

    greetings, Cutetropolitans!
My weekend is full of grading… Midterm grades are due Wednesday, and we have parent-teacher conferences on Thursday. I have four sets of exams to grade (53 tests in all) and another test to prepare for Thursday. It is this week every darned semester that I start getting sick, from sleep deprivation and handling germ-laden test papers.

So I am trying to be kind to myself: drinking tea, having soup, taking little breaks. I even managed a walk this morning to “get the stink blown off of me” as my starter husband used to say.

Anyone else see the world’s greatest headline this week? “‘Make better choices’: Endangered Hawaiian monk seals keep getting eels stuck up their noses and scientists want them to stop”

    • Leigh December 8, 2018 / 10:38 am

I saw that too! The seals looked suspiciously content with their eel appendages…

      • Faye December 8, 2018 / 10:45 am

Eel snorting. Maybe that’s an unknown psychedelic experience?!

        • N. Fritz December 8, 2018 / 10:54 am

evidently, teenage seals are snorting eels with alarming regularity!

          • Alice Shortcake December 8, 2018 / 11:28 am

It’s the aquatic version of toad-licking!

            • Faye December 8, 2018 / 2:34 pm

              Hahahahaha

    • allein ? December 8, 2018 / 11:35 am

I just googled this and someone was quoted as saying it was “shocking” and I thought, “good thing they aren’t electric eels or it’d really be shocking!”

Also, reading it made me a tad queasy so I didn’t finish the article.

    • debg December 8, 2018 / 1:15 pm

I loved that headline and the photo made me howl. Silly seals.

Glad you’re taking care of yourself in healthy ways. I used to go through a bag of Oreos when I was grading. Not so smart, though the sugar used to lead to better grades for the students!

    • Murray C December 10, 2018 / 10:23 pm

      N. Fritz! My Dad used to say in response to my telling him I was going for a walk , “Going to blow the stink off of ya?” He was Irish – was starter Hubby? Hope you feel OK after those germ-laden papers.

Beautiful puss – those eyes are mesmerizing – I’m just seeing this post and it’s Monday. I was out all day Saturday, down to Maryland for a memorial for a wonderful musician friend. Next day some friends and I went to a Hmong sale that happens only once a year at the woman’s house – beautiful Hmong textiles. Made pecan squares for meeting Sunday evening of the craft guild I belong to. And today I’ve been cleaning and beginning to decorate for the holidays.

And I did see the seal with the eel up its nose. ew.

  4. AJ December 8, 2018 / 9:59 am

Dive! Dive! Dive! That is such a tempting trap, just hope pointy bits don’t come out.

Busy weekend ahead for us. I’m doing a hair appointment and then present shopping for the family I adopted. Five little ones – 4 boys and a girl, so exciting!. Meanwhile hubby is finishing putting up the Christmas decorations. Then tomorrow our local hockey team is sponsoring a road trip for season ticket holders to see the parent team play. Go Anaheim!

And somewhere in there I need to finish cleaning and hanging up pictures. Plus dry out the house from all the rain we got Wed and Thurs. Even had a thunder and lightning storm AND the power go out. Found out the hard way that the house does have a roof leak and the property management company is dragging its feet doing something about it. Well they’re the ones that’ll have to explain to owner about the damage. Sometimes I think the management company only cares about the money coming in and not taking care of any big issues. We shall see how this turns out. Happy Weekend everyone!

  5. allein ? December 8, 2018 / 10:04 am

My calendar came yesterday!! And Mike gave me Hell’s Wawas for my birthday month!!! 😀

Today my friend is having a Christmas game day at 3:00. I’ll pass by the outlets on my way so I’m going to try to leave a little early and see if I can find shoes (though I really don’t relish the idea of going to the outlets on a Saturday in December…). Tomorrow we’re celebrating my dad’s birthday, which was three weeks ago but whatever.

    • Heather Noelle December 8, 2018 / 6:20 pm

My calendar came a few weeks ago, and it is already hung in an honored place in the kitchen! We are enjoying the snow pup for the rest of December and January.

  6. Birdcage December 8, 2018 / 10:12 am

Good morning, Cuties. I’d rub that belleh, even though it would make me sneeze. I want to bake some Christmas cookies today, and sort through my Christmas shopping to see what I have left to buy – but I’m having a hard time getting going. I fear I might be coming down with a cold. Well, far better to be sick now and well in time for my holiday houseguests. Last night I did something fun: the Ripley’s Aquarium in Toronto had a special “Symphony Under the Sea” night: a chamber orchestra playing holiday music, a bar serving fun adult drinks, and special nighttime access to all of the animal exhibits. I really enjoyed it. There’s something very relaxing about the fish even without the chamber music playing everywhere! And I got to pet a giant manta ray who was very cute and puppy-like in his enthusiasm for meeting people at the side of his tank.

    • debg December 8, 2018 / 1:17 pm

I adore how rays like to get petted! I’d try it in an aquarium, though snorkeling or scuba diving would terrify me. Sounds like a delightful evening.

    • Heather Noelle December 8, 2018 / 6:23 pm

      I’m jelly of the manta-pets!

One of our local institutions, the California Academy of Sciences, has a similar “Nightlife” event every Thursday, and it’s always fun to watch the fishes with drink in hand.

  7. Meleo1 December 8, 2018 / 10:13 am

How could anyone pass by that tempting belleh?

  8. Faye December 8, 2018 / 10:40 am

    Hello all.

Millie and I are counting our blessings ahead of the official holidays: I have tried to leave my ties to my last home town that I left in 2012! New gas station, new library, new Starbucks, new GP, new Vet. Only keeping Dentist, Dermatologist and Lady Barber. It took awhile as old town is only twenty minutes away.

New gas station involved me FINALLY learning how to pump gas. Don’t laugh but my old station still had full service for discount gas price. My friend had to teach me twice! My first reaction was, “You mean you have to get out of the car!?” I think they could make the nozel seek out your gas tank after you pop the little door open and the cap unsrews automatically.

Working on a spectacular drawing that I will share one part of here. My drawing of my history and talking with my doc has resulted in my having minimal ptsd flashbacks for the first time in my life. Experiencing times of clarity and peace.

Millie can now sit, stand, lay down, give paw with both hands, and spin like a top. She knows”get it” if her toys fall off the bed. And she throws her small toys back right at me. She has a small blankie that we play peek-a-boo with. She brings it to me for a play session. Never loved any human or dog more.

I’m very lucky. I’m safe and moving forward. Now I need to improve my health after effects of such a long mental struggle.

Sending out happy holiday thoughts to all Cutetropolians. And especially thinking of Dear Duckie.

    • Faye December 8, 2018 / 10:46 am

Oh, and… Deep white floof is so tempting…

    • allein ? December 8, 2018 / 11:19 am

Granted, I live in New Jersey, but I have pumped gas exactly once in my life.

      • dubravkamcvmd December 8, 2018 / 12:17 pm

That’s so great! Happy to participate!

      • Faye December 8, 2018 / 2:37 pm

Wow. Fantastic. They really did a great job.

        • Faye December 8, 2018 / 2:41 pm

Rereading your explanation of how open the country is. I would love to walk more if I lived in that beautiful area.

          • N. Fritz December 8, 2018 / 3:20 pm

Open invitation to come visit, Faye!

    • Leigh December 8, 2018 / 3:51 pm

Faye, I am continually impressed by your strength and resilience. Clarity and peace, for however long they last, are quite a blessing.

And I know how you feel about Millie, I spend a good part of my day just staring at my Lucy and telling her how much I love her, and how she is the best thing to ever happen to me. She just wags her tail. 🙂

      • Faye December 9, 2018 / 5:53 pm

        Thank you Leigh. ?

    • Murray C December 10, 2018 / 10:30 pm

All sounds wonderful, Faye! I am very impressed and pleased for you. Give Millie a snorgle for me.

About pumping gas – I’ve gotten to the point that I’m annoyed if I’m somewhere (like Jersey) where they insist on pumping it for you. I’d rather – under most circumstances – do it myself. Hilarious, your remark about having to get out of the car. good one!!!!?

      • allein ? December 10, 2018 / 10:41 pm

I gotta say, it’s pretty nice in the winter… (I feel for the employees, though).

  9. Alice Shortcake December 8, 2018 / 11:06 am

*shoves face into the irresistible fluff, makes motorboat noises, phones for ambulance*

It’s been a good week entertainment-wise – on Thursday I saw the live relay of “Antony and Cleopatra” from the National Theatre, and tonight I’m going to “The Messiah” at York Minster. The tenor part is sung by Peter Auty, who was the uncredited choirboy who performed “Walking in the Air” in the evergreen Christmas favourite “The Snowman”.

    • debg December 8, 2018 / 1:18 pm

OMG I adore York Minster. And to hear Messiah there–I’ve performed it a number of times so would probably annoy everyone around me by singing along under my breath. Have a wonderful evening.

      • Alice Shortcake December 9, 2018 / 5:09 am

It was wonderful, and although Mr Auty had to withdraw due to illness his last-minute replacement was more than adequate. But crikey, the Minster is cold in August and VERY cold in December – every time I attend a winter concert I make a mental note to wear another layer of clothing next time, then forget all about it.

    • Phred’s Mom December 8, 2018 / 6:15 pm

I envy your going to York Minster for “The Messiah”! I would be in tears at the Chorus.
Sang the Chorus with the Drexel glee club (alto) way back when. It was a thrill.

      • Murray C December 10, 2018 / 10:31 pm

Hey, Phred’s Mom – great to see you here!

  10. Duckie ? December 8, 2018 / 11:24 am

Duckie is giving serious thought to snorgling that belleh.
Miserable weather outside. Started out as freezing rain, then decided plain rain is bad enough. However, it is warmer now than it has been all week.
Doing some last minute sewing this weekend for a friend who just became a great aunt again. We went shopping and bought the cutest baby penguin flannel I’ve ever seen. When I rinsed and dried the flannel, the penguins came out all fuzzy from the dryer. I may have to get some for myself, just to have.
Hubby taking me out for the day, just because. No plans, just fun.
Right now, I am okay. Calmly deep breathing while drinking vanilla tea in front of a heater. Imagining having that kitty on my lap.
    Have a great weekend, everyone.

That was EPIC. The dog is a master.

  12. Heather Noelle December 8, 2018 / 12:22 pm

    I’m in love, Cutetroplis family!

Just a few ago, I was brave enough to ask one of my friends if he had romantic feelings about us (cause I did)…. And he said yes!

So now we’re making up for lost time. He even came to my work holiday party last night, which was ALSO my birthday.

So happy, and finally being treated well. For both of us, it’s been a long time.

    LOVE LOVE LOVE!

    • N. Fritz December 8, 2018 / 12:25 pm

Heather Noelle, thanks for sharing your joy here! Nothing like the first flush of love!

    • debg December 8, 2018 / 1:20 pm

So happy for you! That’s wonderful. And a belated happy birthday.

    • Faye December 8, 2018 / 2:45 pm

      Good for you!

    • Dubravkamcvmd December 8, 2018 / 4:49 pm

      That’s so wonderful!

    • Amyliz December 8, 2018 / 6:00 pm

That’s wonderful, Heather Noelle! Sounds like a Hallmark Christmas movie! 😀

      • Heather Noelle December 8, 2018 / 6:16 pm

Omg yes! The latest episode of my favorite podcast, Pop Culture Happy Hour, is all about Hallmark Christmas movies, and I feel like I’m living one!

    • fkaWaldenPond December 8, 2018 / 9:20 pm

      Wonderful! Wonderful! 🙂 🙂

    • Murray C December 10, 2018 / 10:36 pm

Lovely! Romance blossoms for a Cutetropolitan! and, yes, Happy Birthday.

  13. N. Fritz December 8, 2018 / 12:23 pm

I just realized why Elly makes me so happy: she’s the same Wedgewood color scheme that my mom always wanted for our living room! I still have the blue velvet loveseat and chairs in storage in Iowa!

  14. debg December 8, 2018 / 1:28 pm

Happy Caturday, everybody! Your adventure stories and healing stories give me so much pleasure. It wasn’t a great week for me–lots of stress at work, and I wasn’t feeling great, plus it was one year ago on Thursday that I lost my old job at the craft magazine company while recovering from my appendectomy.

I think that last year, I hadn’t really processed getting fired because I was still feeling so icky and then was focused on getting another job. So this year, I needed to go back through those feelings and acknowledge how painful it had been on so many levels. My current job makes me very happy (despite stressful weeks here and there) and I wouldn’t go back to the old one if I could. But healing can only happen if I fully experience the sadness, a previous therapist told me.

Spending the weekend packing up candy boxes for shipping, making *more* fudge for the office, and doing some much-needed small repairs. I’ll also perform the last steps on some knitting projects so that I can wear them. Once I finish the current two sweaters (1 sleeve to go on each), I’ll turn to charity hats–mindless knitting that uses up stash yarn and adds some warmth to the world.

Elly is quite beautiful and I would not be able to resist that floofy belly.

    • Faye December 8, 2018 / 2:50 pm

Debg you are right. You have to feel the sadness… Tough work but this time next year you will be glad to be further down the road.

    • N. Fritz December 9, 2018 / 2:26 am

DebG, as one Cutetropolitan who has inexplicably lost a job to another, I feel you! But I am a firm believer in “everything happens for a reason”. Don’t look back: you’re exactly where you should be and heading in the right direction!
