Typical cats, find the warmest spot in the house and hog it. Beautiful babies, love their coloring. They look like they’re getting toasted but hope they don’t start getting too squishy.

Semi-crazy weekend ahead. Got even more decorations to put up in the yard, I kinda feel like Betty Lou Who but I swear I’ve left the bulb in the fridge, lol. Next Sat will be the holiday display contest in our neighborhood, all the kids walk around and vote on winners in 4 categories. We’ll see what happens. Then tomorrow we’re doing a time-share tour and afterwards visiting our friend who’s been sick. Meanwhile at the house I have pictures to hang, furniture to build and presents to wrap. Whew, guess I should get myself going. Have a great weekend everyone!

Ah, looks like the marshmallows are perfectly toasted and just that quick flip for a bit on the untoasted side. Perfect toasting!! You bring the graham crackers, I’ll bring the chocolate?

Perfectly toasted sh’mallows! I’ll take the pair of them, thanks! ?

Off to Kitsap to bake all day with my mom. We had a pretty good wind storm last night, I hope Puget Sound has calmed down a little or it’ll be an exciting crossing. See y’all on the flip side!

Sounds like a lovely thing to do around the holidays.

    • Jan B. December 16, 2018 / 10:07 am

Here’s a photo gallery of a ferry crossing during Friday night’s wind storm. This is the same boat that I took on Saturday morning. It looks very exciting! All the salt water on the cars couldn’t have been good though…..

(Building html code on an iPad sure is a pain in the a**!)

Still didn’t work $^#&*. So lets try again on the computer:

        60mph winds on Edmonds ferry

There’s also video, if you have the right browser.

        • dubravkamcvmd December 16, 2018 / 10:36 am

Couldn’t see the video but the photos are amazing. Nothing would have gotten me on that ferry during that storm!

          • N. Fritz December 16, 2018 / 11:01 am

Absolutely horrifying…I love ferries but I’m with Dubravka. I’d be waiting out the storm with cocoa and toasted marshmallows…

I’m seasick just looking at the stills! wow, that’s a bit too adventurous for me!

It’s been a hell of a week and I’m trying to recover before the last week of school before the holidays and my impending trans-Atlantic flight. I made molasses cookies this morning to soothe my soul, and I’m currently enjoying a small outdoor gathering in the snow with Punsch (read: mulled wine with rum and berries… no marshmallows) at a local tourist attraction (a gorge). I’ll try to post a picture from home!
    Happy Caturday, one and all!

P.S. I’ve now got “I’ve got Rhythm” stuck in my brain for the foreseeable future. Thanks, NTMTOM…

  5. Amyliz December 15, 2018 / 10:12 am

Those lovely marshmallow kitties look like they are melting together!

This weekend I will be making a couple of kinds of Christmas cookies to take to work next week (we are closed Christmas week…hurray!) I am fortunate to have awesome co-workers so I am glad to do this for them. Think I will also watch “White Christmas”, my favorite holiday movie!

  6. Faye December 15, 2018 / 11:02 am

I like my toasted marshmallows just a bit burned. But I wouldn’t turn these two down.

Today and tomorrow probably are dedicated to updating my website. I have four drawings to post with accompanying text.

I had a burst in the number of visits! I think the reason is my joining and posting in a women artists with ptsd group on FB. I have gained some dedicated fans there. With all of FB’s problems I have to say I would have never been able to find a safe worldwide group of such specificity.

Feeling contented with two days indoors sheltered from inclement weather with Millie by my side. Millie who ate her breakfast, drank, played, pooped and then put herself back to sleep under the quilt. It always cracks me up when she decides on her own to burrow in for a long nap.

Duckie you will gloat over the instant karma my big dog inflicted the other day. I was bringing a cooked Duck Breast to room temperature on the counter. I was intending to reheat it and get the skin crispy… Well Bucky waited maybe 20 minuets before he snagged it and devoured it in three bites!!!

Happy Caturday everybody! Love these two perfectly toasted marshmallows–they’re that rich golden color I always wanted!

Quietish weekend for me: errands, minor repair projects, baking and cooking that includes making toffee squares by request for a coworker’s grandmother. Nana always made them, apparently, but at 93, she doesn’t bake anymore, so my colleague asked for a batch to send her. I’ve hit upon the perfect way to “charge” for these special requests (which included making a sweater and hat for another coworker’s 5-year-old): instead of requesting payment from someone, I ask them to make a donation to an animal charity, in whatever amount they want to give. Since I had to stop my monthly donations at the end of last year when I lost my job, this is a tiny way to contribute.

The candy and fudge all went into the office this past week. I think I was pretty popular for a while! It was gobbled up very quickly. Coconut cream fudge and toffee got rave reviews.

Next weekend, I start on the bathroom shower project. Gulp. But two 4-day weekends are an opportunity I want to seize.

Hope the photo upload works, and you can get a feel for the atmosphere!

    • debg December 15, 2018 / 11:32 am

Wow, that looks gorgeous (and kinda cold).

      • N. Fritz December 15, 2018 / 12:22 pm

The barrel in the foreground is a firepit. Like the kitties in the picture, nice and toasty warm!

    • dubravkamcvmd December 15, 2018 / 11:44 am

      Looks lovely!

  9. Duckie ? December 15, 2018 / 11:31 am

    Ok, bad first.
Hubby contract over. Out of work.
Accidentally inhaled raw cabbage yesterday. Now my chest hurts and I have a cough.
Two people I know well had deaths in their families last week.

Ok, now for the more optimistic.
Hubby will be at home for the next few weeks, so I will be getting extra help around the place. And just having him here makes me happy.
I managed to get everything on my to-do list crossed off this week.
We have more groceries stockpiled in the cupboards than I realized.
The storm last night was not as bad here as we expected.

These two toasted marshmallows need to be smoothed together in a warm furry hug. And Bucky, you are a good boy.

  10. Alice Shortcake December 15, 2018 / 11:35 am

I’ve just returned from a couple of days in Stratford-upon-Avon…where I discovered a cat cafe tucked away in a side street! I didn’t have time to arrange a visit but it’s going on my to-do list for next summer. One of the furry residents was sitting on a stack of books in the window and yawned in my face when I tried to attract his or her attention.

    • N. Fritz December 15, 2018 / 11:42 am

Ooh, Alice! Something to look forward to! Yesterday I walked into a shop and they had a — wait for it! — SHOP LAMB! A black, 4 week old, bottle-fed bundle of love! It absolutely made my week!

      • debg December 15, 2018 / 3:36 pm

I think shop lambs should be mandatory. I would shop more if there were sheep involved.

        • Alice Shortcake December 15, 2018 / 5:31 pm

Absolutely! We need more shop lambs and less irritating muzak. Also, there’s a fortune waiting for the first person to open a wombat cafe (although if the Sleepy Burrows videos are anything to go by they’d need heavy-duty furniture and unbreakable crockery).

  11. allein ? December 15, 2018 / 12:11 pm

So I just discovered this and I am entranced.

Faye, I like to light my marshmallows on fire and then blow them out. But I would of course not do that with these fuzzy ‘mallows.

Need to do some shopping. Just got Christmas lists from my family last night because we can’t do anything timely. I also need shoes. Have been on the lookout for a while but it’s getting urgent because the ones I am trying to replace have now sustained a partial internal collapse in one heel. But I have not been having much luck. I am going to brave Kohls (and a few other places) this afternoon and will report back later, if I survive.

    • dubravkamcvmd December 15, 2018 / 12:45 pm

Just amazing! I loved it! I’m so impressed that anyone works out such a thing.

  12. Patty December 15, 2018 / 12:37 pm

I have no plans for the weekend, other than monitoring my husband’s blood sugar levels. It’s been a crazy few weeks, he had pneumonia, and had a bad reaction to the inhaler his doc prescribed, leading to swollen extremities (stump so swollen can’t fit his prosthetic leg on), low blood sugar levels (paramedics came 4 nights in a row, twice one night), and sleeplessness. My life has become watching him sleep, looking for signs of low levels so I can fix it. We eliminated his bedtime insulin, and still he is dropping to levels so low he needs to eat at 3 am. There are other things going on too, concerning my autistic grandson who has now been put in foster care, but that story is too long, and too complicated to write here. There won’t be Christmas presents from grandma this year, I have no money for bought gifts (self employed husband can’t work with no leg), and finding time to crochet things is not happening either. I am thankful his pneumonia has cleared up, thankful for the help from my kids, and their SOs, and thankful that my grandson will be able to get the care he needs, and we will be allowed visitation while he is in foster care. Things could be better, but they also could be so much worse.

    • dubravkamcvmd December 15, 2018 / 12:50 pm

Oh my. I’m sorry you have so many worries and stress. Your attitude is inspirationally positive. I hope you and your family get through this period better off.

    • Duckie ? December 15, 2018 / 7:00 pm

Patty, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

  13. Debg December 15, 2018 / 2:08 pm

Sorry for the bad news from Patty and Duckie—you’re in my thoughts and the cats’ purrs.

  14. Jeannine December 16, 2018 / 11:47 am

Those marshmallows look like they have a little toasted coconut on them. My favorite! I may have to steal them away. First, N.Fritz what enchanted land do you live in?

I wanted to thank you all for your support for my work woes earlier this year. I was recruited to do some substitute teaching (out of the blue). Which was a total surprise, but it was something. I also have a strong chance at a youth pastor part-time job after the new year. Looking for a job when I have a job will help.

Patty, I will pray for your family and yours, Duckie.

    • N. Fritz December 16, 2018 / 4:45 pm

Jeannine, good luck on all fronts! Looking for work ain’t fun (I rank it right up there with moving house – blech!). But sometimes the job search leads to places like Austria, which is where I live now 🙂

I went to Home Depot and got to pet a doggie! He thought my umbrella was a toy for him to play with, but he was very sweet. He was a German Shepherd (? or similar breed) and not quite a baby but definitely still a young’n. So soft! His owner was apologizing and I said any day I get to pet a dog is a good day (and didn’t mention I only went down that aisle because I saw doggie 😉 ).
