Weekend Open Thread

Welcome to the weekend chillout lounge here at Hotel Cutetropolis. We’ve got DJ Katty on the turntable spinning mellow sounds for a stress-free holiday weekend. Katty comes to us from reader Julia A. and is available for weddings, parties, and catwalk shows.

I might do a little scratch mixing later.

Wow, am I really the first to comment on Caturday thread?! Today I have to sort out my Christmas shopping. I hope I got everything because I’m sick and I don’t want to go out. Good thing I live alone because I can’t talk to anyone, anyway. Luckily it’s just been a nasty cough and some congestion, oh, yeah, and the laryngitis. And a little bit of a sore throat but I think that’s more irritation from the cough.

But I will gladly party with this kitty. Love the stickers on his turntable.

Hope you’re feeling better soon, Allein. Sounds like you need lots of ice cream to make your throat feel better. Of course, ice cream is my solution to pretty much everything.

      • allein ? December 22, 2018 / 12:30 pm

I actually don’t have ice cream! I did get a little cup of vanilla from the cafeteria at lunch yesterday.

We’re gonna party like it’s 1999! Woot Woot! That is such a cute cat toy and yeah, the stickers are great too!

Everything is pretty much done for Christmas, finished wrapping presents yesterday. Still have to hang some pictures, clean the house and go buy the Christmas feast.

Then next week I have the whole week off from work!!!!! My goal is to clean and re-organize the garage with hubby (since 90% of it is his stuff!) but we’ll see how far we get and if we’re still speaking to each other afterwards, lol. Let’s say we have different approaches to cleaning – I want to chuck/donate anything that’s not being used and he has a tendency to want to keep everything … just in case I need it. ARGGHHH. If you haven’t used it in so long that you don’t even remember having it, then time to get rid of it.

    Merry everything!

Stress-free, ha, ha,what a joke, right!! Hey bartender, what’s your specialty?!

    • allein ? December 22, 2018 / 11:12 am

I have ginger beer and black rum…

      • N. Fritz December 22, 2018 / 12:03 pm

        Set ’em up, Allein!

        • allein ? December 22, 2018 / 12:09 pm

I hadn’t opened the rum because I started getting sick but now I’m thinking it might just help..

          • N. Fritz December 22, 2018 / 12:28 pm

            Rum toddys all around!

    Happy weekend to all.
Last night, in a fit of pique, I cleaned out the pantry and put all similar foods together. Now it looks organized AND full.
Tomorrow, Christmas at best friend’s place. Monday, Christmas Eve at hubby’s side of family. Tuesday still up in the air for my side. Let’s just say that my siblings are getting coal AND switches in their stockings.
Woke up at five thirty this morning for no good reason at all. Looked out my window and saw a few snowflakes. Went back to sleep in a slightly giddy mood. Woke up MUCH later to discover no snow at all. Very disappointed.
A little tidying, a little baking and a little shopping today, and then four glorious days of nothing. Not even cooking. And if siblings can’t cooperate, after Mass on Christmas Day, hubby and I might get back in our jammies for the day! Ooooo, delightful shiver!
    Have a fantastic weekend, everyone.

Can you come to my house and get piqued?

      I’ll make cocoa.

      • Duckie ? December 22, 2018 / 12:23 pm

        On my way.
Actually, Allein, it would be nice to visit you and many others from this site. Maybe one day…

I love the idea of a Cutetropolis weekend retreat.

        • Phred’s Mom December 22, 2018 / 12:34 pm

We should have a great big get-together at some nice, not too pricey
restaurant at a mid-point that we can all reach. Ooh, waitaminnit!,
what about n. Fritz and Alice?! A ship in the Atlantic? Needs further
          planning. Hmmmm…

          • Duckie ? December 22, 2018 / 12:40 pm

A cruise! With stops at all Cute ports!
How many of us are in the west, near the Canadian/American border?

            • AJ December 22, 2018 / 12:53 pm

I like the idea of a cruise! And I’m down near the other border in SoCal but I’ll gladly take a road trip to meet my other Cute aficionados.

              • Duckie ? December 22, 2018 / 4:08 pm

I was just asking for a point of reference to start things off.

          • N. Fritz December 23, 2018 / 1:31 pm

Good idea! Make sure there’s a Danube cruise and I’ll bring the welcoming committee!

  5. debg December 22, 2018 / 12:34 pm

Happy Caturday, everybody! We made it through the longest night of the year!

I’m putting off shower demolition after staying in bed much too late this morning. Now I’ve got to do some shopping, including a run to Target, which is going to be hell. But at least I don’t have to see what’s behind my walls!

Best wishes to you all. I’m also sending out good thoughts for anyone affected by the government shutdown.

  6. debg December 22, 2018 / 12:53 pm

P.S. Katty is beautiful and I love her scratchy toy. I’ve wanted to get one for years for my brood.

While I am trying to read the comments, husband is telling me about the Hungarian Two-tailed Dog Party. They mostly seem to protest and do graffiti.

    • Emsthemonster December 22, 2018 / 1:48 pm

… which makes them a lot more useful than the governing party.
As a Hungarian, I am completely embarrassed at what politicians get elected here. 🙁
Two-tailed ones do funny things and their graffitis are often eye-opening to many.
Anyway, I am cutting it here, this is a place for the cute, not for cringeworthy politicians.

Oh, my, everyone is in major holiday mode! I finally am, too. Before that, tho’, I sang at my friend’s funeral on Thursday – just one song, it was a short service. Then the funeral procession lost about half the people on the way to cemetery because they drove too fast – we ended up going straight to where they were sitting Shiva. People were late getting back from the cemetery because……wait for it…….they dug the hole in the wrong place! So they had to wait for a backhoe to arrive. Fortunately everyone in this group has a pretty good sense of humor. Tree is up but undecorated, the rest of the house is mostly decorated (I do a LOT of decorating), I’m making cookies today, trying new recipes. They are not working out well – will continue with my tried and true ones. Then a ton of cleaning. We don’t really do gifts, so that simplifies things a lot. Have a great and jolly week end, everyone!

    • allein ? December 22, 2018 / 1:52 pm

I guess your friend really didn’t want to go!

My aunt’s funeral in March was in my town but the cemetery is a good 20 minutes away; I was surprised we didn’t lose anyone on the way, to be honest.

I hear sirens. I’m guessing (hoping) that’s Santa making the rounds.

      • Murray C December 22, 2018 / 10:33 pm

Funny you should say that, Allein – I had thought my friend who was a whirling dervish of activity, never let any grass grow under his feet and wasn’t in any hurry to have it growing over him.

  9. Emsthemonster December 22, 2018 / 1:59 pm

This was a nice Saturday, first time in ages I did not feel lonely.
My friends who had neglected me for years called me to meet. It was a nice surprise!

I love the singing tabby in the picture and the lovely Cutetropolis snow that does not need to be shovelled 🙂

    • Duckie ? December 22, 2018 / 4:09 pm

      You always have friends here.

      • Debg December 22, 2018 / 8:30 pm

Exactly. We do the opposite of neglect around here!

        • Emsthemonster December 23, 2018 / 8:44 am

Yes, I know and I am really grateful for that.

The rare and beautiful Four-eared Reincow…

  11. allein ? December 22, 2018 / 10:57 pm

Can I be lazy and put my family’s presents all in one gift bag each instead of wrapping them individually? I usually wrap on Christmas Eve, so maybe I’ll feel up to it by then, but if I still feel like this…

Just went through my list of what I got and realized I actually spent roughly the same amount on each of them without even trying! Just made a donation to St. Jude hospital for my parents to top it off (now I just need to find a card to write a note in). I didn’t get cards, though. Don’t know if that’ll happen. I don’t anticipate wanting to go out tomorrow. I could do it after work on Monday but I don’t want to do any kind of shopping on Christmas Eve, even if I do have to be out. And if my coughing doesn’t lessen by Monday morning I’m going to call the doctor and see if I can see someone in the afternoon. We get out of work at 1:00 and they’re about 15 minutes from my office. Starting to wonder if it might be bronchitis or something. Though so far my temp has stayed below 100, barely. 99.9 when I checked a little while ago.

  12. Murray C December 22, 2018 / 11:05 pm

You could just put a bit of tissue around each one so the person has the feeling of opening presents individually – that’s pretty easy and time-efficient, especially if you’re feeling under the weather.

    • allein ? December 22, 2018 / 11:09 pm

I might do that. I don’t have any Christmas tissue paper but that’s okay. They can get pink and orange and whatever.

  13. Maia December 23, 2018 / 11:51 pm

Coming in a little late, but I wanted to wish everyone a merry solstice and a happy Christmas. Allein, I hope that you feel better. I’m in favor of a Cutetropolis retreat, too!

My family is minimizing like crazy this year, but we are like the Whos in Whoville– we’ll be singing on Christmas morning even without boxes and bows. Dad is home, continues to improve and while I miss my ex and my former life, I am Adjusting.

And as always I am grateful to the community here. EMS, Like Duckie and DEBG said, you will always have friends here. Thank you again, Mike, for giving us this wonderful gift.

    • allein ? December 24, 2018 / 7:52 am

Thanks, Maia. I thought I was feeling better yesterday morning but the coughing got bad again later, and woke me up a few times during the night (I had at least been able to sleep through before that). And this morning I’m feeling slightly out of breath. Also feeling slightly feverish even though I don’t actually have a fever. Going to call the doctor and hopefully they can get me in this afternoon (I get out at 1:00 today so *fingers crossed* they have something around 1:30, since their office is only 15 minutes or so from work). If not I’ll find an urgent care. And I will ask if I should even be going to Christmas dinner tomorrow… 🙁

Minimal Christmas sounds good to me. The last few years I’ve wanted to suggest to my family that we just not bother with gifts, but I haven’t done it. But I didn’t buy a whole lot. Hope everyone has a good one.

      • dubravkamcvmd December 24, 2018 / 9:33 am

Watch out for the the No Gifts! I thought I had that agreement with my sister a couple of years ago and then Christmas morning she presents me with packages with bows. I said I thought we said no presents! She said YOU said no presents, applies to you, not me. So back to presents!
