Kansas City cop finds love — and glove
One Kansas City police officer rescued a kitten, made a new friend, and… located Mickey Mouse’s missing glove? Recently, officer Jason Smith of the North Kansas City police spotted a kitten stranded on a traffic barrier. The scared kitten, who struggled at first, eventually warmed to Smith in his patrol car, and Smith’s family adopted the stray.
But that wasn’t the only thing Smith discovered. Starting at :38 in the video, one can clearly see the kitten standing next to Mickey Mouse’s glove. Reached for comment, Mr. Mouse said “Gosh! I’ve been looking for that thing everywhere!”
Video found by Elaine W. on The Animal Rescue Site. (And now I’m going to camp out on Google Maps for the rest of the day looking for that glove.)
I cannot imagine how I missed seeing that glove. ?
Kittens end up on highways because people throw them out of speeding cars. 🙁 So glad the officer was able to snag this one safely. And that glove is awesome.
Kitty had a singed tail though so they believe she was hiding in a car’s engine for warmth when the car started up and took her for a little ‘joyride’. They think she fell out from under the car on the highway.
I’m glad that it’s apparently just luck and not an abuser.
(adding) I think we just found the Police Chief of Cutetropolis!
Update: Using Google Maps, I have located the section of I-29 where the kitten was found, but there’s no glove! Google Maps notes that this section was last photographed in June 2018, so the glove must have appeared later.
You won’t find the glove in the future either – the cop who rescued the kitteh went back the next day and took the glove as a memento of the rescue.
She also has an Instagram now. It’s adorable: https://www.instagram.com/highwaykitty/
Thank you! And here’s kitten and mitten, reunited:
That is awesome. I love this cop!
Bella is all… ‘Gah! he’s so hand-some.’
On an unrelated note, my FIV+ cat vanished Tuesday January 2nd. This morning I checked my light meter, opened my gate and looked out (although not sure why) and when into another room. When I came back in the kitchen she was in the yard! I do not know which of us was more overjoyed. She has been spayed and never wanders so it is a complete mystery. But who cares? I am just so happy she came home safe and sound.
So glad your kitty is home safe!
Wonderful!
What a relief!
I just love happy endings!
So glad your kitty returned safely! You must have been so distressed!
I love how the policeman goes back and forth between matter-of-fact-cop-talk on the radio to high-pitched-lovey-dovey-whose-the-cutest-widdle-kittycat-speak. And, the kitty’s “get me the h—- outta here” cries melting into big purrs. ?
🙂
I credit that high-pitched voice for preventing the kitten from bolting. I remember seeing a video of a fire fighter coaxing a dog to leave a burned-out area by using his falsetto voice. He even explained how animals preferred the higher vocal ranges. So all together now, squeakers up, “Here kitty, kitty, kitty.”
Gorgeous kitty. Veeery lucky.
I love that the kitten set off the siren briefly–isn’t that every little kid’s dream? 🙂
This post and all the comments are so good and great news. I really enjoy this space Mike. Thanks again.
So happy for darling Bella and her family. She’s such a cutiepie and clearly the family adores her.
All together now, “AWWWWWWWWW”. And this officer is our cover boy for the Cutetropolis Heroes Calendar. So glad they ended up together and she has a loving home with some 4 legged friends.
