There always has to be one bun who is different, so I’d say he/she is the caboose. I choo-choo-choose all three.

No, see, sometimes they put a locomotive at each end–one pulls the train on the way out, the other pulls it back home. It saves having to turn the train around. That’s clearly what’s happening here.
