Aw, I know how you feel, little pupper. Except it’s usually how I feel about what comes out of my own kitchen.

I was contemplating pizza or fries tonight, too (but not both).

That looks seems to say to me, “Where’s the beef!?”

Did something happen? I couldn’t get on for most of the day… it was weird!

Also, this pug is either confused or is showing some amazing restraint!

Yeah, apparently there were technical difficulties happening.

For the record, I went with pizza (Margherita); no fries.

      • fkaWaldenPond March 1, 2019 / 8:16 pm

Sad thing is, I had pizza for dinner and now, despite being full, would eat those fries. Good thing they are not here in front of me.

It certainly is although I’m not so sure about the crepes claim.

      Source: I’m Swedish. ??

I’ve never been there so I can’t say. Pea soup doesn’t entice me but the whipped cream and jam look tasty.

      • tagathax March 2, 2019 / 12:40 am

I had no idea pea soup and pancakes is considered a strange combination (greetings from Finland)! It’s not like people dip the pancakes in the soup…

Waves frantically across the ?? Baltic Sea ??.

No, I don’t know why that would be so strange. It’s like eating a meal, the soup, and a dessert (the pancake).

By the way, speaking of food, I have tasted Karelian pasty when in Björneborg with my then girlfriend. It was delicious. ?

          • tagathax March 2, 2019 / 1:57 am

            *waves back*

Karelian pasties are the best, especially with fresh eggbutter. And now it’s time for some fastlagsbulle!

My sister and I took my mother on a tour of Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland, plus a stop in St Petersburg for her 80th birthday, now almost 20 years ago. We loved everything! We were surprised that we loved the food too – I guess the Scandinavian countries don’t have a reputation for their cuisine, at least in NYC.

Well, there’s always Aquavit (the restaurant). Pricy, but delicious. On the other end of the price scale, there are the cafes at Ikea. 😀

There are others, you just have to know where to look. I usually look in Google! 😉

I live at the other end of Europe and this combination doesn’t sound strange to me at all.

            • Arne March 2, 2019 / 4:33 am

Where do you live and what food can you offer? I’m popping over to Tagathax for some fastlagsbullar but after that I’m heading to your place. ?

And then to Austria for Faschingskrapfen (jelly donuts with apricot filling)!

Quite a fitness menu here in Hungary, roasted chicken breast with greek salad 🙂 But tomorrow I am going to make cherry-almond cake if you like that better 🙂

Uh…what happened to the “like” button?

I think Mike deleted it in an attempt to solve the technical problems the site was having.

    • Not That Mike The Other Mike March 1, 2019 / 10:12 pm

Yes, I have temporarily turned off a couple of functions, including the thumbs up/down system. Once I think my tech problems are solved I’ll bring them back online.

  4. SoccerSue March 1, 2019 / 9:45 pm

I’ve had some rather unusual food pairings at buffets. 😛

  5. Kar March 1, 2019 / 10:55 pm

Sounds more appetizing than spaghetti tacos.

Kind of looks good, actually. but then I also eat Peruvian stir fry: onions, tomatoes and steak over fries. And it’s delicious.

    • allein ? March 1, 2019 / 11:26 pm

I used to make spaghetti sandwiches when I was a kid. My dad thinks it’s gross so now I only do it when I have spaghetti at their house (if they have the right bread). And I always offer him a bite. 😉

      • Murray C March 2, 2019 / 9:04 pm

        I liked potato chip sandwiches.?

    • SoccerSue March 1, 2019 / 11:41 pm

Kar- that sounds delicious. Add some gravy and you’d have Peruvian poutine!

Pizza and fries is not considered a strange pairing in Québec, I don’t know about the rest of Canada but most pizza places in Québec offer it, especially take out place and food court places.

    • murkle46 March 3, 2019 / 8:54 am

Sounds like a great nuclear calorie option to stay warm in cold weather.

    • Mal June 9, 2019 / 9:34 pm

Isn’t the national dish of Québec poutine? I mean, once you’ve embraced poutine, the rest is easy.

Weird food combos are nothing new to me, especially when I was a kid. One of the more interesting ones and I still eat it today is peanut butter and cream cheese sandwiches. It’s the perfect pairing of sweet, salty, creamy, sour and crunchy if you used crunchy PB. I was also know to throw in some M&Ms too. Or the one that made my husband shake his head at me – ketchup on macaroni & cheese.

On another site I recently came across a bunch of folks from the South, I think Mississippi, lauding a southern delicacy I’ve never heard of: a sandwich consisting of a pineapple ring with mayo on white bread. I could have used that there Worried Pug photo.

That said, there’s a version of street pizza made in Rome that is basically white pizza (oil, garlic, rosemary, mozzarella) topped with very thinly sliced or shaved potatoes, which become all crispy crunchy in the wood oven. It is awesome, as most things are when Italians get hold of them. So you never know.
