Tanks for Nothing

For centuries, canines have played an important part in battle; where do you think the whole “let slip the dogs of war” bit comes from? Therefore, the technicians at Snark Industries are proud to introduce the newest advancement in puppy-based military technology: the K-9000 Armored BattlePup!

It’s just a prototype at the moment…

That dog looks like a straight shooter, Sharon H.

Where does the expression “let slip the dogs of war” come from?
Whovians know it’s from the War Doctors K-9 companion of course.

      In answer to Gigi:

Shakespeare, Julius Caesar, Act III, Sc. 1

      ANTONY
O, pardon me, thou bleeding piece of earth,
That I am meek and gentle with these butchers!
Thou art the ruins of the noblest man
That ever livèd in the tide of times.
Woe to the hand that shed this costly blood!
Over thy wounds now do I prophesy—
Which, like dumb mouths, do ope their ruby lips
To beg the voice and utterance of my tongue—
A curse shall light upon the limbs of men.
Domestic fury and fierce civil strife
Shall cumber all the parts of Italy.
Blood and destruction shall be so in use,
      And dreadful objects so familiar,
That mothers shall but smile when they behold
Their infants quartered with the hands of war,
All pity choked with custom of fell deeds,
And Caesar’s spirit, ranging for revenge,
With Ate by his side come hot from hell,
Shall in these confines with a monarch’s voice
–> Cry “Havoc!” and let slip the dogs of war,
That this foul deed shall smell above the earth
With carrion men, groaning for burial.

It sounds dumb, but I get so used to hearing out-of-context snippets I need occasional reminders just how well that dude could *write.*

Indeed he could. I never cease to be amazed at how many, many layers of excellence there are in his command of the language, as well as of storytelling.

Chants whilst swaying from side to side holding Glow Stick aloft: “Shake-speare! Shake-speare! Shake-speare!”

Seriously, I’ll miss my twice/thrice yearly visits to Stratford. My recent trip to London will have to be my last night away from home for the forseeable future due to my Dad’s declining health.

Sorry to hear about your Dad. I took care of my Mom in her last years. She had dementia. Taking care of a parent in decline is an emotionally difficult experience. Good luck.

I’m sorry that he’s declining. But you will be glad to have taken good care of him when he’s no longer with you. We had my mother living with us and she drove me nuts a lot of the time but I’m happy we looked after her – she was never in terrible health, so we were lucky in that regard but she eventually succumbed to a stroke.

General Patton, himself, would be proud of this good boy!

I’m going to buy a paper dog that I can call my own……

Mike, I’m being asked for my info each time I post something – is that to be a regular feature?

It’s happened before; I assumed it’s to do with whatever issues have been going on with the site the last few days. It’s why my pawprints have disappeared (because I’m too lazy to go get the emoji each time).

The quote is from Shakespeare’s ‘Julius Caesar’, but in this cutie’s case I think the same author’s ‘he’s a good dog, and a fair dog’ (The Merry Wives of Windsor) would be more appropriate.

Ooo. I like that quote. Good dog… Fair dog…

I’m pretty sure most puppies don’t need to become tanks to mess stuff up!

What a cutiepie. I love that little face.

Just can’t get over Snark Industries! Another NTMTOM gem!
