I sucked my thumb for years, much to my motherβs dismay,
and my teeth were/are straight. Go figure.

Heh. It probably contributed to a bit of an overbite (combined with a habit of pressing my tongue against my teeth when I swallowed; had to be trained out of both), but my real problem was that my jaw wasn’t big enough. My bottom teeth were very crooked (they had to put a band on one of them because it was at too much of an angle and the bracket kept coming loose from the pressure of the wire), and the only reason the top ones were reasonably straight was because they were pushed/pulled forward. I had all four first pre-molars pulled before I got my braces, to make room for my teeth to move, then I had all four wisdom teeth pulled before I could get rid of the retainers so they wouldn’t come in and screw up all that work. (The orthodontist told me I had to get the bottom wisdom teeth out, but the surgeon was talking about doing the top ones, also, and when my mom questioned him he pointed them out on my x-ray and said “see this? you’ll be back here in six months.” And it cost less to do them all at once rather than pay for two visits and two rounds of anesthesia.) I only have 24 teeth now.
(My brother also needed braces, and he didn’t suck his thumb. He had a pacifier, but I wouldn’t take one. Can’t take away my thumb! π )
Max a cat I had years ago did that. I was told it was because he was weened too early but his brother Boots was weened at the same time and didn’t suck his dew claw. So your guess is as good as mine.

Mike, are you sure this isn’t a kangaroo?

That is a bee-YOO-tee-ful baby. I don’t understand the question marks in the headline at all. π
Furbabies are way cuter than hoomin babies.
Agreed.
And hey, I sucked my thumb and it was fine. Nothing three years of braces and four years of retainers couldn’t fix.

It’s not even a fair comparison, is it. π
