Happy weekend, Cutetropolitans. It’s time for conversation, and reader AJ has a foster cat named Kemuri striking the perfect “we need to talk” pose: “This is how I found him when I went into the bedroom last night. I also think he’s showing some bun bun level of disapproval.”

Wow, I don’t even know this guy and I’m already bracing myself for his list of demands. ๐
Good luck, AJ. ๐
Thank you Mike for showing off Kemuri. And your hovertext is perfect!! List of things that need improvement, snerk.
Heading up today to our friend who passed a few weeks ago house for round 2 of the clean-up. May go to the movies, may work in the garden. It’s a go with the flow weekend around here.
For those in the US, Happy 3 day weekend.
I’m having a 7-day weekend. ๐
Need to go to Target and see if I can get more Irish Cream Brownie ice cream for my dad. Hopefully they’ve restocked. I really want to try the Bourbon Vanilla Bean Truffle but I didn’t see that one. Might have to go on a hunt. Also need to pay bills and fold the towels in the dryer. Other than that, not much going on here.
Update: checked their website and the store by me says out of stock but both flavors are supposedly in stock at the store about 8 miles in the other direction. It’s a nice day; I’ll take a little ride and listen to podcasts. Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me and ice cream. Can’t complain about that. (I’ll bring my insulated lunch bag with an ice pack, though.)
oops, guess I messed up my italics tags…
Kemuri is exceedingly handsome: he also looks like a reasonable fellow who at least give you to the end of the day to get that list of improvements taken care of!
Amy Liz, were you affected by the bad weather last night?
The storm sirens went off and we were under a tornado warning. A funnel cloud was sighted about a block from me but it never touched down. Thanks for asking!
My parents heard the sirens, too, but I think you were definitely closer than they were. Glad you’re safe!
We even had tornado warnings up in North Jersey on Thursday night! Not close enough to affect me, other than interrupting my TV show with the weather report (my “local” stations are out of NYC). As far as I know nothing came of it, thankfully.
We had the first tornado (E1) in Bucks County in 22 years
Thursday night. Tore trees up and did some little damage,
not a biggie, thank goodness
MyMike asks, do you think there is any way of diminishing the strength
of tornadoes? Is there any talk of science working to do this?
do you mean like they seed hail clouds? I don’t know the science behind tornados… it would be great if they could dissipate that energy before it causes real damage.
The Lawrence KS Police Department says not to shoot at tornadoes. I guess that is an issue? It doesn’t slow them down though.
I hope the Lawrence KS PD is kidding. Failing that, I hope the people shooting at tornados are drunk. Failing that, ….
Evidently the origin of this nonsense: https://www.rt.com/usa/402707-shoot-at-hurricane-irma-florida/
I would have been more surprised by this before November 2016.
Stop.
The Lawrence Ks PD twitter page has a really good sense of humor. Also, Bangor, ME PD facebook is a great read.
Yes he’s definitely got that “now let’s get started shall we?” air about him!
Kemuri looks like he’s thriving in your care, AJ! What a handsome kitty. I’m sure his demands are reasonable.
“I’m not mad; I’m just disappointed.” What a handsome boy!
I love three-day weekends. Why can’t they happen every week? Looking forward to a nice mix of getting stuff done and relaxing with yarn and Game of Thrones, plus some nap time with my felines. Sleeping in a cuddle puddle is glorious–no wonder kittens do it so much!
Kemuri with his asymmetrical markings looks like he’s working in a call center. I don’t think your complaint would have a chance with him on the other end of the line!
I overdid yesterday, grading and going into work on my day off, then coming home and mowing the lawn. Then I spent some time reconnecting with friends who live literally 100 yards away but I haven’t seen them for probably two years because my job has no boundaries. I officially went to bed at 10:22 pm, but I didn’t tell anyone about the 2 hour “pre-bedtime” nap.
Today I have been creative and productive and none of it has to do with school! Prepared some canvases for a creative project that’s long overdue, went for a bike ride, worked a couple of hours in the garden, and am now in the middle of making sweet potato gnocchi.
I am slowly finding my way back to a healthy work-life balance… Happy Caturday, y’all!
Oh my lord…sweet potato gnocchi? Bliss! Tomato, creamy white, or naked?
A recipe I found last weekend: coconut milk, leek, mushroom sauce. HEAVENLY!
Okay now I am just so so sorry I asked…๐คค
Dulcie, google “purple sweet potato vegan gnocchi with leek” and you should come up with the recipe!
OMG are they ever cute! And purple!
Clipping this recipe!
Hee, hee, he does look as tho’ he’s got on a headset.
A very handsome pussycat – is there a failed foster in your future?
How scary about the tornado – I’m glad you dodged that bullet, Amy Liz.
Very impressed with the amount of productive activity going on among Cutetropolitans – I’m sort of shackled to my drawing board trying to get two projects done – been going on way too long and my house and garden are suffering as a consequence. Not sure the money I’ll make really makes up for how far behind I am – it’s kinda scary.
I’m heading up to Vancouver to celebrate my birthday (the Big Five Oh). Breakfast with hubby, lunch with friends, watching a professional soccer game with more friends (and I’ll be presenting the Man of the Match award after the game), then dinner with still more friends. I hope Kemuri approves of the schedule. ๐
Hoping all Cutetropolitans in the scary weather areas of the US stay safe! I think I’ll forego complaining about the little bit of rain we’re going to have today.
Happy Birthday, SoccerSue! I’ll be waving as you (sort of) drive by (assuming you mean Vancouver, BC).
AJ, Kemuri is beautiful. Love the crossed paws. Please let us know that you survive the day.
It seems “my” resident owl finally got back at the crows for tormenting it. Ten thirty last night, there was an unholy cawing and yowling in the tree outside my window, about four stories up. One of the yowling sounds headed east, with the rest of the crows following, absolutely furious. The crows came back quickly, but there was a great deal of muttering and cursing among them before they settled down.
Having a quiet day today, as the rain, which I love, hurts. I might even fold laundry!
Happy weekend, everyone.
Thank you and yes, Vancouver BC. ๐ Lunch at Sal y Limon on Kingsway, and dinner at Horizons in Burnaby. I feel like I’m going to spend the whole day eating, haha! I think the rain is supposed to stop by early afternoon. Fingers crossed!
Have a wonderful birthday, Sue! You must be a Fabulous Fifty.
Enjoy every minute.
Happy Birfday!!! ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฐ
Happy birthday, Soccer Sue!
Sounds like a great day! Happy Birthday!
Happy day, Soccersue! Fifty ainโt so scary; itโs the birthdays after it!
Fifty is nothing. Wait till you hit seventy. Iโm still recovering, and my
next is eighty! Yikes! And when your child goes on Social Security!

My best friend’s grandfather will be 96 on Tuesday. (And her nephew will be 11.)
Kemuri is indeed handsome, AJ. He looks strong and dignified, as befits an HR manager!
Had a much needed haircut this past week. My hair, after coming out in clumps, started to
grow back slowly, now all white and curly at the ends, which stayed black. I got a really
good bada$$ short cut, a lot like Pinkโs (local gal). My morale is immensely better; in fact,
I broke out the eyeshadow and mascara -for the now white eyelashes. Iโm leaving my new
white eyebrows as is โcause they are rather interesting this way. Sorry to bore everyone,
but this is a big achievement for me this week. Now to work on the last of the remaining
pain of the surgery site. Whoo Hoo! ๐
I need a haircut, too. I’ve been off all week but never got around to it. Thanks to your post, I just called and made an appointment for next Saturday. Glad you’re feeling better… It’s amazing how a good haircut can lift your spirits.
Bore us? No way! Your new look sounds fantastic. Itโs great that youโre feeling so much better.
Thanks, DebG!๐
Hi all! I’ve surfaced momentarily from my pain and drug induced haze. Knee replacement went as well as can be expected. Much more pain this time that’s only barely being managed. The inflammation is what’s being the most problem, I’ve having to sleep on the couch which is the only place I can comfortably elevate it above heart-level. I have timers set for every 4 hours – up to take meds, pee and resupply with ice, then back to the couch. Boring, really.
Hope everyone has a nice long weekend and that no one gets “Dorothy-d” away by tornadoes!
Lily helps all she can!
Jan, Iโm so glad Lily is there to provide comfort. Hopefully the pain will subside very soon.
I’m so sorry about your misery but Lily looks like a lot of help. She loves her Mom!
Lily is a superb support kittie, with pretty toebeans.
Today is the worst you will feel; each day will be
a bit better than the last. Weโre with you.
Aw, Jan, glad Lily is taking care of you.
My ice cream hunt proved fruitful, though not at Target (they didn’t have it), or the Stop N Shop in the same shopping center (they had it but I couldn’t reach it and it was also covered in a thick layer of frost). I passed an Acme on my way back so I figured I’d try there, and they had it on sale, and I used the self checkout and a $1.00 off coupon printed out after I scanned the first two! Score! I got my dad an Irish Cream Brownie and a Stout Chocolate Pretzel (I opened it at their house to taste it, but I don’t like beer so I correctly surmised I wouldn’t like it; it wasn’t terrible but the chocolate was not enough to override the beer flavor). And I got my mom a chocolate chip. Got myself a couple Irish Creams and a Bourbon Vanilla Bean truffle. Haven’t tried it yet. Will report back later. I suspect they won’t last the weekend.
๐ฆ๐ฅ
Oh, and I dropped ice cream off at my parents’ and didn’t realize they were still pup-sitting for their friend’s dog. She’s a Pekinese named Mulan, a smushy-face little fuzzy pudge and apparently there’s not a word for the opposite of pigeon-toed but her front feet turn outward. She’s ridiculous-looking and adorable.
Update: Not loving the bourbon vanilla but if you like bourbon you might like it better.
Everybody in tornado-land, stay safe! We had snow in Colorado earlier this week, and now itโs a bright sunny day in the 70s. My gardens survived and iโve even had new flowers open up.
I did something crazy today, people: bought a new car. Have wanted a hybrid for ages because of my long commute, so while the service guys were doing maintenance on my Elantra, the sales guys were making it possible to buy a new Ioniq. Itโs very exciting and wasnโt really how Iโd planned to spend my Saturday, but there you are.
Ooh, how do you like it? I am on my fourth Elantra. Only had it about a year, and hopefully won’t need a new car any time soon but I would like to spend less on gas…
Iโll report back next week. Iโve had 2 Elantras and the Ioniq is basically an .elantra with a hybrid engine. Itโs really quiet!
Happy Birthday Soccer Sue๐๐๐
And get well soon Jan…sounds like a very trying time. Yikes.
Wow, sounds like everyone been busy with one thing or another. Happy Birthday Soccer Sue and get better PhredsMom and Jan B. And glad no one was too impacted by the bad weather. The gnocchi sounds fabulous and I might need to go find me some of that ice cream, I’m drooling already.
