Oh yeah, I think Mutz knows EXACTLY what’s in store for him. Followed by what’s in store for his tormentor. πŸ˜‹

Oh so true Lucy’s Mom. What a face!! He must be taking disapproval lessons from the buns.

I’m here to report that hubby tied for second last week in our neighborhood block party’s chili cookoff. And he placed third in the baking contest with my dad’s secret family recipe for baklava. I think I’ll take over as chili contestant next year with my vegan black bean pumpkin recipe.

This weekend not much happening here. We have a landscape/garden consultant coming to look at our very pitiful backyard and see what they suggest. And then the painful part, how much it will cost to transform it from a moonscape to suburban paradise. I also see some movie viewing at some point this weekend plus I need to go clothes shopping. I’m proud to brag (just a little) that I’ve lost about 10-15 lbs and many of my clothes are too big, sooo … shopping spree at Goodwill (I refuse to pay full price for what passes as fashion today).

Have a great summer weekend everyone and may the weather be perfect wherever you are.

Sounds good, AJ. And I love hitting the thrifts. I have scored some really good things at
thrifts, and Goodwills usually are pretty big stores with good selection. Guilt-free retail
therapy. If you know labels, fabrics, etc. it’s good.

The not-for-profit parent company of the medical office I work at operates a charity thrift store, and offers a 25% discount to employees of the company during certain weeks. Last week I scored a pair of Ann Taylor Loft slacks, new with tags ($69.50) for $1.32. :-O All their slacks are buy one/get one free, so since I bought 2 pair they were $1.75 each, minus the employee discount. Best of all, they fit!

I love shopping at thrift stores, but I stay far away from Goodwill. They treat their employees like dirt (I speak from experience) while the CEO takes home a six-figure salary.

Thank you for speaking up about this, Benvolio. I have long avoided Goodwill for exactly that reason.

I didn’t know this. Delete Goodwill from my vendor list.

I’d love to have that vegan black bean chili recipe. Seriously!

    Oh, no! Poor Mutz!

Not much going on here. Gotta figure out what we’re doing for Father’s Day tomorrow.

Hope everyone else’s day is full of lemony goodness!

Why you gotta be so sour when I love you so much?

    • dubravkamcvmd June 15, 2019 / 11:27 am

That is really one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Pup is shocked, shocked! by the sour – yet – maybe not so bad?

    • JenDeyan June 17, 2019 / 8:37 am

The fact that he licks it again at the end just seals it.

It’s about 9 am here and I’ve finished installing shelves in my cat bathroom–thank goodness for closet systems! They make everything so much easier! Now I get to start moving stuff onto said shelves, sorting through crap and dusting it off as I go. It will be a messy operation. Then, finally, I can remove a nasty old built-in shelf thingy from the laundry room and maybe hang up my fancy new pull-out drying rack for drying sweaters. The rack will go up above kitty reach. They’ve snagged too many things off the one that sits on the floor, so I don’t even use it anymore.

Mutz certainly doesn’t look thrilled about his impending doom. What a handsome guy!

Mutz is one fine looking kitty. And I bet he’s got fine, sharp, well-maintained defense mechanisms aka claws, ready to preserve his dignity.

The subject of my mail to NTMTOM was “World weary, yet curiously beguiling.” That’s Mutz in a nutshell!

When we came home last night, an unfamiliar cat greeted us (my bf has an enclosed garden, so this was unusual in itself). This kitty was white with orange tabby markings and Scottish fold ears! A total love sponge. Don’t know if we’ll see it again but I would seriously consider adopting this sweetie (no offense, Mutz!).

In other news, it is in the 90s in Vienna this weekend. No air-conditioning. Not a happy camper!

Mike you scared me with the “I’ve got bad news”!! I didn’t know if I wanted to read on!! Thankfully you immediately clarified! Phew…

So my dad likes Irish Cream and someone posted a recipe for Irish Cream cream cheese swirl brownies that looked really good but not something I wanted to attempt in my minimal-counter-space kitchen, so then I went googling for some simpler dessert recipes I might be able to do for father’s day. Found this one and made a batch last night. I bought vanilla ice cream to go with it and tested it last night. It’s yummy (thought it gets really thick, really quick once it starts to cool, even before I put it on cold ice cream). Not sure I could really taste the Bailey’s (at least on the ice cream; I think I noticed it more when I first tasted it right out of the saucepan. I tried to make hot fudge sauce once before but it involved butter and it didn’t come out very good, and then it separated in the fridge and didn’t look very appetizing after that. This is much better and a lot easier. The method is basically the same as my chocolate syrup recipe. So if you like hot fudge sauce but don’t want all the oils and crap that comes in most of the commercial stuff… Could probably just use water in place of the Baileys if you don’t want flavor/alcohol. (Future experiment! Also…peppermint extract, perhaps?)

(I used Hershey’s Special Dark cocoa, because I have plenty at home and didn’t want to buy the regular cocoa to then add to my cabinet clutter, and chopped semisweet Baker’s chocolate; also used light corn syrup [because brown rice syrup was 8 bucks]; I briefly considered the golden syrup [cane sugar syrup] that was next to the corn syrup, which would probably work, too, but decided to go with what the recipe said. I might experiment with adding some kind of liquid to thin it out a tiny bit. Water? Milk? More Baileys?)
